I have absolutely no use for 'SuperFly' or any PBR shader system because I'm happy THIS side of the uncanny valley. (Not to mention that if cranked to 11, as Bagginsbills excelent example demonstrates, Firefly is quite capeable on its own.)
I'm a hobbyist and old school Poser user. I like my "easy" workflow and with PP 2014 and Poser 11 installed, I can do everything I want. I can rig, I can sculpt, I can make new figures, I can hack and slack by editing cr2's, I can build completely new stuff in Wings3D. I (more or less) have the material, cloth, setup and the hair rooms figured out (at least on a basic level).
I don't even need better figures because with all those tools to my disposal, I can do anything with all the figures I already have. Just for kicks, I recently transferred G2 Vicky's face over to Posette/NEA, just to see how "un-Posette" I can make her. :-)
So whatever I can think of, I can do in Poser. (Mostly PP 2014 as Poser 11 has some slight "hick-ups". But its subD morphbrush is very, very nice!)
So what I need from Poser is to render faster and to especially allow instancing for huge outdoor scenes! Genesis style "one click" cloth conversion/rigging would also be a very welcome feature. (Not to mention complete Genesis integration. Not just because of Genesis, but because 99% of the "cool stuff" content is now FOR Genesis, and conversion always takes extra time. (I have Studio installed on another computer, so if push comes to shove, I can still simply export the object files)
But a borrowed and incompletely integrated shader system from another app was really the last thing I would have wanted. Nor do I need for my huge library of python scripts to be broken. How big are the chances that scripts like "Mag-Cloner" will be ever updated? Or "MorphMirror". Has "Scenefixer" been already updated?
Besides, if I'd want true photorealism that badly, I'd simply pick up Blender. It's free and there is a huge community out there trying to teach.
So, here we are. No interrest in 'SuperFly" at all and no interrest in Poser 12 (so far), either.
Give me full on instancing and/or Genesis integration (or at least true one click conversion of Genesis content), and we can talk.
Otherwise, thanks, but no thanks.

I don't care about Superfly either. Don't like its slowness (even with a modern graphics card) and especially don't like the weird preview.
Besides, if you want 100% photorealism, you actually need a mesh that is 100% photorealistically sculpted. (Which none of the available Poser/DAZ meshes is, anyway)
So I rather go for speed. The P4 renderer WAS fast, and the Firefly renderer WAS slow.
But I had 15 or so years to learn how to get the most out of it:
Here are two of my "Casuals" in one of my basic 3-Light settings:
Preview:
Render 4.6 sec:
Render 8 sec:
Here my render settings:
As I said, not going for photorealism. I try to safely stay "this" side of the uncanny Valley, going for a "unique" Poser look that pleases me instead of trying to keep up with the "professionals".

Jast a thought: Would it be possible to arrange the dots in a 3 dots-wide pattern? I have my dots docked, and this would be slimmer than a 5x5 pattern. Like 24 dots in an 8x3 pattern.
But if that's not possible, 5x5 is fine, too. I'll just leave them floating, then.

Thread: Does Poser 11 utilize flash for the menu tree? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Ah, I see. Poser 11 "vanilla" is still available. But there seems to be no upgrade path from Poser 2014?
Thread: Does Poser 11 utilize flash for the menu tree? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
AFAIK Poser 11 isn't available anymore. And Poser 12 has some HUGE problems.
Personally, I upgraded from PP-2014 to Poser 11 some years ago, but in the end I hardly ever used it, as the new "HD" morphbrush functionality turned out to be pretty useless in practice. (And I neither care about "SUPAHFLY" nor the "new & improved" figures.)
IF you want to upgrade, I'd suggest you try to find Poser Pro 2014 instead. You can then use AIR instead of FLASH to run your library.

Here you go: https://gist.github.com/zenorocha/18b10a14b2deb214dc4ce43a2d2e2992
Make sure to run the editor AS AN ADMINISTRATOR. Otherwise you won't be able to actually resafe the file.
Make also sure to TO NOT accidently save the "hosts" file as a text (.txt) file.
It needs to stay just "hosts". (To check for it, you need to make file type endings visible in Windows. By default, Windows will hide them from you.

Nevermind!
I added the HOSTS file again (added www.contentparadise.com instead of just contentparadise.com) and now it works!
Hooray!

Thread: Memory dots in Poser 11 PRO don't save morph-channels anymore | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hi, thanks for the replies.
Just gave it a try, but no luck. It seems the memory dots in Poser 11 PRO are broken or the functionality was intentionally removed.
Well, if all else fails, there's still my trusty old Poser Pro 2014 then. Especially as the "new" library in Poser 11 Pro is excruciatingly slow and akward. Seems also I already found some problems with the rigging tools when snooping around in L'Hommes JCM's. (Suddenly all JCMs dissapeared from the rigging tool window. Had to restart Poser 11 PRO to make them re-appear again)
Well, I don't need the new Poser figures anyway, or "Superfly", but I'm going to buy a new machine and I'd really liked to try out real-time rendering with a CUDA enabled card and do some high-res sculpting with Poser 11's new morph brush.
If all else fails, I can think I can live or work around without the memory dots, but has anyone a suggestion for an alternative library for Poser 11 PRO ?
Thanks again.

Well, if we can't talk about Genesis and DS, let's keep on talking about cars, like in that other thread, shall we ?
Here's a little story I just heard:
Company "P" builds a car with three wheels and a 100HP engine and it is just $500.
"P" drivers are enthusistic, but after a while notice that most cars on the streets are built by company "D".
A "P" driver asks a "D" driver, why he doesn't drive a "P" car, and the "D" driver says it's because his car has four wheels and a 200HP engine AND it was FREE.
Now the "P" driver hits the "D" driver over the head and calls the Police, claiming that the "D" driver insulted him and hurt his feelings and he should be banned from the streets and noone should talk about the "D" car ever again, because they are obviously very bad people.
Glad it's just a story, because in real live,
people would never act that stupid, now would they ?

Thread: Is Photorealism your goal in Poser? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
While I agree that there are textures floating around that have too much burned in specularity and shadows, I completely disagree that textures used for Poser (Or Studio) should be sanitized of all highlights or photographic detail to be useful.
There is a limit what displacement can do, that's why DAZ developed the HD morphing system.
But there is also a limit what the native render engines in Poser (Or Studio, for that matter) can do.
So going "all displacement" or "all sculpting" won't give you the 100% perfect Photorealism you're after. Maybe with a high end render engine, but not using Firefly.
You "pay" with a lot of additional work and render time (High res displacement maps or very high res subdivision), while getting little back in return.
And if you want to edit out all what makes a photographic texture an actual photograph, why bother with taking a photograph in the first place ?
If I follow your logic, given that every detail is physically there, a pink floodfill texture (maybe with a clever procedural shader) would be all what's needed to create a photorealistic looking render of a human being.
You "theoretically" might be right, but I doubt this approach would be practical in any way - Especially when we're talking "One click" photorealism.

"The Poser Fitting Room for weight map rigging was/is an incredible boon to riggers and will make adoption of weight mapped figures faster and easier for vendors."
The "Fitting Room" is just a crude combination of Morph Brush and Cloth room/SetUp room functionallity.
You could do everything it does since Poser 7.
The only difference is that doing the conversion manually was faster because you hadn't to do that much "trial and error".
Lol.
It's one of the many "features" in PP-2014 that are basically useless if you expect more than average "hobbyist" quality.
Personally, I definitely wouldn't pay for any product that used the "Fitting Room".
