Very painful and hard to achieve at times. Although shutter glasses can also cause eye strain (and nausea, headaches, etc.) with too much use, much of that can be alleviated by limiting use (i.e.: taking breaks) and using high refresh rates on the monitor. Headsets are the best way, if not the most expensive!

Even worse, Huolong, Renaissance masters also used to have lots of apprentices who did most of the work. They'd mix the paint, prep the canvas/fresco/whatever, and, under the scrutinizing eye of the "master", paint the master's sketches. At this stage in one's career, the master was a "producer" or "director" of his creations, through his apprentices, and taking all of the credit. This isn't very analogous to what's being done in todays CG, but it shows the misconceptions that the true arteest struggled his way through every monumental masterpiece, weaving canvas, making paintbrushes, paints, and mediums, sketching and painting from some ethereal imagination only. No way! They relied on skilled craftsman, apprentices, and models more than we. And if you think that they didn't beg, borrow, and steal from one another - look again... And, silver, I like your analogy of "hiring people" and "purchasing models/textures/etc".

Depends on how much "from scratch" you want to work from. For some people, creating poses is difficult, beyond them at this point, outside their budget, or too time-constrictive and it's good that there are resources for that. The same goes down the line. What I'd like to see you do is create your own figure from scratch as complex as V2 or V3 with all body parts, 3000 morphs, bones, fixed UV mapping, hires textures, clothes, lights, poses. Get back to me in about 20 years! ;) While were at it, why are you using a 3D graphics program that you didn't write yourself? What creativity is there in using the tools written by someone else? Wait! Shouldn't you be developing your own OS so that you can say that your 3D art has been truly built from scratch by yourself? Even further, you should develope your own form of electronics calculating system (computer). Is the point sinking in yet? :) There are limits to people's skills, finances, and time that are fulfilled by others (Thank the universe!). That's what "teaming up", "community", "commerce", and "free (or not so free) exchange of information and ideas" are about. Do you think every 3D CG movie uses everything from scratch? Most doubtedly. Although a lot is custom, including plugins and software, the process involves dozens, if not hundreds, of people and millions of dollars. Finally, photographers do not (on the whole) create the scene that they are photographing and many artists use photographs as reference or directly. Do models count when painting? Maybe we should only paint human figures from our memories instead. Now, that was just a skirmish. BeatYourSoul

Camera Separation, in 3D graphics anyway, is a matter of proportion. In this case, it would be best to use the distance between the eyes of a standard model (like P4 male, V2/V3, Don, Judy, whomever). In C4D and LW, I set up a camera rig to accomplish this automatically - two cameras grouped into a hierarchy with the same target for "focus" on a particular object or area. This is the downside of real "stereoscopic cameras" (though there may be some that compensate for this) - that each lens does not angle towards the focal point as real eyes do. Real eyes both cross slightly and change their lens shape to focus.

Smaller images and closer would help. As for myself, I prefer shutter glasses or headsets as compared to the strain of eye-crossing. If you have a utility, you can turn them into stereoscopic images (JPS or other) which either interlaces the two images together or puts both images in one file for page-flipping.

Have you tried Cylindrical mapping? It will need to be done separately on each leg and trunk, but will unwrap properly.

While I agree with you JohnRender, you missed the point of his question. Poser is erroring when starting, not when loading a model. This is in the FAQ at Curious Labs and is a known issue. The correct solution is to install the patch and properly set your VM.

And it's a V3 texture? Once again, though, the V3 eyebrows should only get a color and a transmap - no color texture map. Or just a color texture map and no transmap.
Thread: Double Eye Brows - Help! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
One of the eyebrow sets (for V2, I presume) is for transmapping only and should only receive a transparency and no color or color texture map. There are a myriad of posts on this topic and a search for "eyebrows" will get you more information than I can divulge. :)

Books:
Poser 5 Reference Manual - (comes with Poser 5, of course) necessary, but very vague in some areas (such as the new Material Room).
The Poser 5 Handbook - R. Shamms Mortier. His first book for Poser, well, sucked. But on this one he has culled information and articles from the best and it is supposed to be a much better companion book than the last.
