20 minute quicktimes at 1280 X 720? Man, that's going to be one HUGE file! Good to know the general target resolution for 35mm, though. Thanks, Goofball....

Hey, Lensman - Yeah, there are some frustrating differences -- like where do you find how to change the mapping mode on an object? (It's no longer in the object's properties, but rather in the texture room.) But the good thing is that everything you know and love from RDS is still there; it's just been moved. It's like that line by Dr. McCoy from the first Star Trek Movie. He shouts in exasperation as he's leaving the transporter room, "I know engineers. They LOVE to change things."

Looks great, Ken! I really like the way the foot snaps down to the ground at the footfall. Well thought out. - Dex
Thread: Help: Output to 35 mm Film | Forum: Carrara
Your best bet would be to get in touch with the vendor that will actually do your film recording. Find out from them their specs. Theoretically, the resolution of HDTV is similar to that of 35MM film, but there are so many factors that will come into play at the transfer house. The one thing I can tell you that's a constant is that 35MM film runs at 24 FPS. That'll save some time on the render.... Hope this is helpful. - Dex
Thread: Problems, please help (newbie) | Forum: Carrara
One thing that you mentioned raised a big flag for me -- the big white pixel edges. If your alpha map is saved as a JPEG, you'll get artifacting around the edges. Save it as a BMP or other non-compressed format. - Dex
Thread: Same old guy, new name | Forum: Carrara
True, Terri, true.... And Bluetone, I've acutally registered the name DexFX as a company here in California and am developing a logo and such, but I'm so damn busy with my regular job that I don't have time to build anything on the side....
Thread: Same old guy, new name | Forum: Carrara
Thanks, all.... Yes, I only have two other names that I could use, so I guess I'll only be able to move to two other cities for the rest of my life. And as for avoiding the spitting problem (avec or sans cheddar), I say the name "S - F - Dex," which could mean San Francisco Dex or Science Fiction Dex, either one of which could apply.... But S F Dex kind of rhymes. Has a flow to it. Of course I could be like Mark or Terri and provide a lot of personal information with my logon; and the witness protection program, er, my moving company advised me against that. - Dex
Thread: Simple Trench Scene | Forum: Carrara
Hey, jaypeg -- kind of a rude comment.... Come on! Cool, simple image, Kix. Only suggestion I'd make would be to motion blur the stars, too. It looks like our POV camera is moving through the trench, so everything in its view would be blurred to a certain extent. There'd be less blur on the stars than on the trench walls though. If you didn the blur in Photoshop, you might think about using the radial zoom blur instead of a motion blur, though. It would give more of a z-axis motion feeling. My two cents worth. - Dex
Thread: Question RDS 5.5: Is it possible to change the color of the Wireframe . | Forum: Carrara
That's exactly correct, Kix. If you're aiming for a wireframe render, you'll want to work in the wireframe view so you can get an idea as to the colors that will come out when you do a draft z-buffer render. I don't remember if there's a way to change the color of the background in the z-buffer renderer, though.... Hope that's helpful. - Dex
