Good question - I've noticed the same thing. Perhaps this is something that will be fixed in the coming SR3 release.

The question I guess becomes one of whether Poser creates UV data or whether you have to import it along with the model. I think you are going to tell me that it has to be imported. My model maker doesn't generate that data so if Poser doesn't generate it either then I need to place another program in the production chain. I've checked some other posts and downloaded UVmapper and a couple of other things. Thanks for the help.

There is also a program called Accutrans which does a number of different formats. MicroMouse Productions is the company - do a search you should find it. Its not utra sophisticated I'm sure you'll get the mesh but I wouldn't be sure that it would copy bone information etc.
Thread: dreaded black silhouette plus fabric hanging | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Re. importing .obj files - my point was that obj files ALWAYS end up as black silhouettes regardless of where they are sourced from - even from UVMapper. Having said that all my original meshes begin their life in Imagine. Can't afford stuff like Lightwave. This probably means that all meshes have double sided polygons. Imagine meshes when imported into other programs usually have lots of holes because the normals alternate direction from one polygon to the next. The only way to deal with this usually is to force them to be double sided. Any (old) Imagine users know of a fix?

Thanks for the info. I'm an Imagine user - which does create groups but they don't export into a format that seems to allow for direct imposting into Poser. Programs like Max and Lightwave are way out of my pricerange which is why I am using Imagine and Poser! I've got the free version of UVmapper - I'll have a fiddle.

I think a big chunk of the full SR1 patch was an updater for the figures. This is still available as a separate 36mb file listed on the SR2 download page so I presume SR2 only updates the software.
Thread: Poser 5 - Buyer's Beware!!!! PLEASE READ | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I'm a new Poser user and I don't know about the hassles people are complaining of. Yes it does seem slow to render but that is not the biggest hassle for me. (Just assumed my p3 800 was starting to show its age! - 2 yrs next month.) I am having trouble importing objects - most attempts end up as black holes. They just become solid black silhouettes. To get them into Poser I have to send them via an intermediary piece of software and save them as 3ds files. Then I need to set them up in Poser which is where the next hassle occurs. With the grouping editor it would have been nice to have a lasso tool instead of just a drag box. Drag boxes are like trying to write with a brick. Polygon selection could be way better this. As someone who is new to Poser not just Poser 5 I have to say I was fairly surprised at the limited amount of tutorials included in the whole package. The fact that the advertised online tutorials were not made ready for the release of the program is also kinda annoying. Burnart
