I don't understand why the USA doesn't follow the rest of the world and go metric. It's much easier.
Actually the Metric System is the legal standard in the US-The US was one of the original signatories of the Treaty of the Metre. However, the People have repeatedly excersised their Liberty by choosing not to use it for everyday measurements
For some things I could see, such as fasteners (although US made cars are almost entirely metric anyway), but things such as temperature and land distance are arbitrary anyway. A Kilometer (IIRC) is 1/10,000 of the distance from the equator to the North Pole along the Meridian of Paris (France, not Texas). 0 degrees F is the freezing point of sea water, and 100 F was supposed to be human body temperature, but Dr. Farenheit's thermometer must have been a little off.
When I took engineering courses I learned how to do calculations both ways, but I must say I prefered metric because I didn't need to worry about the distinction between weight and mass, which had to be paid close attention to when using Customary Unts.
The first time I rode in a car in England, we were on the Highway heading to Manchester. I looked at the speedometer, and thought "This feels faster than 80 KPH". I then saw the speed limit sign, which was in Miles per hour (I think it was 70 mph, but it went by pretty quickly!), and realised that we certainly were going faster than 80 kph!
Customarily Yours,
Rod Schaffter

Here in central Massachusetts we have had 56 inches (142 cm) of snow this winter, as compared to an average of 26 " (66 cm) by this date.
However, temperatures have been spot-on average.

Yes, rolling it back should work.
I wonder if Universal Extractor will work on the content and character updaters. The problem is that often it doesn't preserve the directory structure. Also, I've never tried it under Wine either.
Cheers,
Rod

Just copy your poser 7 directory onto a DVD and put it on your Ubuntu machine, or copy it over the network if you have one. I have mine in a subdirectory in my home directory, and put a link to it in .wine/drive_c/Program Files/

JenX,
I was able to install Poser 7 in Wine 1.0. The Character and Content updates wouldn't install, but SR3 did install.
I curently run Poser 7 (which I copied over from a Windows installation) in a patched version of Wine 1.1.13. It will run without the patch, but you run it full-screen, you must always hold down the 'ALT' key when moving Poser's windows, and leave the Library Palette docked, or it locks up the keyboard and mouse. The patch can be gotten here, but it requires compiling wine from source:
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13066
The patch is to the library /usr/lib/wine/winex11.drv.so-If you were using openSUSE I could send you a copy of the compiled library (if you trust software from a stranger with no avatar) It's possible it would work in ubuntu-the version I compiled in SUSE 10.3 works in 11.0. and 11.1.
DAZ Studio Beta 2.3.3.138 does indeed work very well in Wine(I think I installed it into Wine 1.1.10). To make it work run winecfg, go to drives, and click autodetect. You also need the Microsoft Core Fonts. Rather than installing them into Wine, I installed them into Linux ( corefonts.sourceforge.net/ ), then linked the .ttf files from /usr/share/fonts (they may live elsewhere on your system) to the .wine/drive_c/windows/fonts folder.
I ran the Studio installer-it gave a couple of errors at the end, which I told it to ignore. The previous version I tried didn't run the content installer during the install (the current beta doesn't include the content) , but it was in the studio directory and I ran it after the installation was complete. Then, run it, enter your Serial, and Bob's your uncle.
Good luck on becoming JenX-11
Cheers,
Rod

I couldn't get it to install under wine 1.1.13, which is the latest development version. It pooped out part way through, usually while unpacking Gamma Girl's shirt.
An interesting side issue is that my DVD writer wouldn't read the original disk anymore-I had to use my DVD ROM. However, I had the same install failure with a backup copy.
Cheers,
Rod

Definitely. I'll send you the specs of the image as soon as i can!
Great, I look forward to it. If you are using non-proprietary lights, you could send a scene without figures.
She was once available on the Internet Archive, but I now cannot connect to the file now-I get a server error. Your luck might be different:

PS the Forum ate the first attempt at a reply, so hopefully this isn't a double post...

What version of Wine are you using? Most distributions come with older versions
I confess I installed Poser and SR2 on a Windows machine and copied it over to my Linux machine, as the Service Release wouldn't run. I'm pretty sure the Poser installer worked, but that was a year ago. Poser is self-contained, so you only need the Poser 7 subdirectory. I did install SR3 under Linux successfully.
Maybe I'll give it a try...If I can lay hands on my Poser 7 disk!
CHeers,
Rod
PS..It runs quite well, if a bit slowly in a Windows 2000 Virtual Machine under VirtualBox.

Regarding omissions, there's Yamoto's TenTen:
www.eurus.dti.ne.jp/~masasi/DOWNLOAD/yamato/index.htm
Zgok did hybrid figure Nanana for A3 and V4 (I believe the V4 version is encoded against Vicky 4.0)
blog.zgock-lab.net/poser/nanana-kai/
Have did two nice characters, Eroko a, realistic female , and Aniko, who was anime style. They are no longer on his site, but can be gotten from the Web Archive:
Eroko:
web.archive.org/web/20060828124628/www.k2.dion.ne.jp/~have/hondara2.htm
Aniko (second Link on the page):
web.archive.org/web/20060813033743/http://www.k2.dion.ne.jp/~have/hondara7.htm
Web Archive sometimes sticks a few extra bits on zip files-if your archive program won't open them, use the command-line version of zip ( http://www.info-zip.org ) and run 'zip -FF filename' to repair it.
Have also did Tuyuko, who is a lovely character also no longer available on his site nor on the Web Archive. Here's a pic of her by pipinoco (Nudity):
excalibur.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php
I do have her, but unfortunately she's non-redistributable. I could try a render for you if you want.
EDIT-You might save a spot for Antonia:

This is a really cool project-thanx for doing it.

Rod

I tried installing Vue 6 PLE and View 7 Pioneer beta using the latest development version of Wine (1.1.12) and the install failed-it tries to install a library and the installtion of that library fails. It flashes up very quickly, but it appears to be a Visual C redistributable. I installed MSI 2 and the Visual C 2005 SP1 and 2008 redistributables, but Vue still won't install.

Vue 6 PLE apparently works very well with an older version of Wine...

Vue 6 xStream works with some issues:

I haven't tired it myself...
