Actually Lobo, that's not a bad workflow, especially for a tutorial that's not that long in length. I'm not sure I would want that for a tutorial that's 20-30 minutes long. Then I'd probably watch one section, work it, go on to the next section, work it, and then on to the last section (if there is a third section), and then finis it.
Do you know off-hand if there's a way to slow down YouTube videos? I'm not aware of any, but then I've never really looked for such an option.
Actually, on YouTube, the controls include a way to change the speed of the video. Second from the left (bottom right of the video) is Settings: there's Auto-Play, Annotations and below that, Speed... you can slow the video and audio significantly.

Funny, I recently experienced exactly the same sort of frustration as HartyBart. Did exactly as he did: uninstalled.
Only thing, it wasn't Blender... it was another, very popular commercial 3D application. Horses for courses, I guess. You pays your money and you takes your chances. Nice thing about Blender is: it doesn't cost anything to try it. Which is true for other applications, but then, after 30 days or so, you will suffer sticker shock.

Yeah, Timberwolf, although Blender 2.8's UI endeavours to be a bit more mainstream, there are still quirks to get your head around. I'm used to Blender pre-2.8 and am having to re-learn a lot, which is fine: I think it'll have more universal appeal, eventually, because of the UI changes. Particularly the "select-with-left-click" by default will prove less of a hurdle for new users.
Have a look at these - both Andrew Price's introduction and Chocofur's are well worth the time spent.

Had a look at that video - you were never meant to see the actual node set, which would have made the whole video worthwhile. As it is, it's pure promotion and even then. I'd be ignoring friendly shade - dot - com as a vendor or reasonable developer as what was shown in the video isn't even on their list of products to sell!
Ordinary.
Get onto blenderartists.org - you'll learn how to put together a decent shader. Then, that texture will be reasonably trivial to set up.

That's the beauty of Blender, isn't it, Lobo? you can make it what YOU want it to be!

have watched all three and he does give a good brief and basic overview of things. I'm having a lot of WTF moments when pressing key combo's and short cuts etc that I am used to and now do something different or nothing at all. And getting the hang of using pie menus and really starting to like them.

As am I. I'm accustomed to [Shift] [Tab] toggling between vert / edge / face mode and I still can't find the thingie for selecting what you scale to. Help in this case is singularly unhelpful, as is Google. Only just because I'm not exactly sure how to phrase my query: "blender 2.8 scale to cursor or active or ..."? Google doesn't know 2.8 yet.

I actually met Andrew in Loganholme, of all places. Of course I recognised him and - star-struck - had a lovely conversation with one of the nicest ever gentlemen you could ever wish to meet. I agree: his videos are superb, and he's as personable as he appears on his videos.

Thread: What are YouTube good tutorials for beginners? | Forum: Blender
That is correct, Lobo. Indeed, I've actually written an addon that paints a rudimentary shader on specific Poser-ish figures: more of a proof-of-concept and programmer-scratching-her-own-itch than anything particularly useful or polished, but I did put it on Github, thinking it might be useful to someone, potentially.
As I've been using it myself, I'm finding the workflow needlessly convoluted and awkward, so for 2.8, I'll be creating a more streamlined version. But, for the most part, it would only suit individuals who pose characters in Poser in order to render them in scenes in Blender. Probably not the huge appeal I'd initially envisaged when I started developing the thing.

That video is truly excellent: well-paced and covers all the crucial stuff thoroughly. Brilliant find, Lobo... thank you so much! ?

Excellent starting point, indeed, Lobo. I would have a few suggestions myself, but do wonder which version 3DKaya is going to try to learn. 2.8 is going to be a bit of a learning curve for me: the UI has seen significant changes! Looking forward to it, TBH... but no question it's something to take into consideration.

In Blender - as opposed to the rest of the computing world - one selects objects on the screen with the right-mouse button. It does my head in - too old! - to select that way, and Blender graciously offers users the means to change which button selects. Lots of old Blender users totally prefer selecting with their ring finger, however.

You've got your finger precisely on the pulse of what I prefer in PDFs over video, Miss B. Don't get me wrong: video has its place, but for oldies like me, the pace of a video either leaves me gritting my "please-get-on-with-it-already" teeth or waving the "whoa-Nelly" hands at the screen as even freeze-framing in VLC can't seem to show the key-combination long enough during some bright spark's demonstration.
Probably just me, though.
Looks like I'm going to need to head over to Packt and get this: 2.8 looks quite... um... different. Again.

I quite agree, Yarp. Nothing matches Poser for ease of finessing figures into the most intricate of poses and attitudes and it is definitely very much in my workflow when I need a figure posed.

From a former Poser user - I do have PP 11, but use it very little, mainly for posing humanoid figures - I find what Blender has to offer in terms of rendering infinitely more cutting-edge, and it keeps evolving. Blender's progress marches ahead at an exponential rate. There is a massive development community.
These characteristics were what made Poser strong.
