Hi all,
I agree with bluecity, I've experienced that as well and it only seems to happen when I have objects in a scene that I modeled in external modeling program. I had one render that was giving me fits with odd triangle-shaped gray patterns appearing seemingly for no reason, ie. there was nothing close to or behind the camera, the scene was very simple with only a few objects and one mill figure, but three of the objects were modeled, one by another modeler and two by meself...
Since I am new to all of this 3D stuff, I'm sure there were polygon problems with my models which I modeled in 3ds, and only after hours of fumbling around with poser (I'm pretty new to poser as well) was I able to get the gray triangle patterns to go away. What eventually worked was deleting the lights several times and loading a new light set, tweaking the shadow settings, and then finally it went away.
But I have to say that as complicated as the 3D apps are, it's a wonder they work at all, and if they work 95% of the time without problems, I can live with the other 5%.
I'm just going to have to learn more about modeling, and that takes a lot of time and experimentation, but that's what is fun about it, at least for me...
*(I'm using poser 7 with no service paks, and have had very few problems with it, almost none, which to me is amazing. It has been a pretty solid program right out of the box. Sure it has crashed on me numerous times, but that is usually because I did something stupid and deserved the crash. At first I hated the program, stuck it back in the box, put it on a shelf and thought I might give it away. Then one day I was bored and decided to give it another try, and now really glad I did. The gallery is now haunted by my inept poser renders, there is no stopping me now!!! lol ;-)

Thanks for those posts arcebus and pakled... that's basically the truth of it I think.
I have taken art courses in college and one thing I learned from all of those hours of listening to the professors' lecture and the images of the "classics" up on the overhead was that some images touched me and some didn't. That doesn't mean the ones that didn't weren't good, they just didn't do anything for me...
So what does that mean exactly??? that art is all in the eye of the beholder, and nothing more. It's as simple as that, there is no good or bad art, there is only the image one is viewing at the time, and how it appears to that viewer, because the same image will be interpreted differently depending on who's looking at it.
lol, I know my images aren't anything to write home about, but so what, the fact is I love 3D art of all kinds and "play" with poser and other 3D apps because that's what I enjoy doing (all the artists on this site, it's all your fault!!! it wasn't until I started browsing the galleries here that I got so hooked on this stuff!! lol)
I have to agree with a few of the posts that I just can't understand why someone would waste their time knocking other forms of 3D art, websites or apps. All I can say is they must have too much time on their hands... lol
I've seen images in the galleries that made me think; what was the artist thinking when they created that ?!?!?!? But who am I to say that the image doesn't mean something or is not important to the person who created it? You'll never catch me giving bad reviews or mean or unkind comments to any artist on this or any other art site, because what's the point?
anyways, had to put my thoughts in on this one 'cause it's a good thread. I really admire some of the people who create some of the images I've seen in the galleries here, and wish I could do as good work. Some of the images I've seen are amazing.
As far as the reference to the "ghetto" -
hey, I grew up in the ghetto,
have lived my life in the ghetto,
I love the ghetto,
it's all I've ever known, so what's the big deal???
cheers,
M
Thread: Can anyone explain the process of zipping custom poser stuff..? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Okay, I finally found all the files... lol
I don't know what happened the other day when I was looking for them, but I wasn't looking in the right place because they are right there in my downloads folder where I put them... (I think I'm losin' it sometimes, hehe).
actually, I have so much content installed that it gets a little ugly looking for things at times...
anyway, thanks a lot for the tips, I know how to do it now..
I think it might be a good idea to have some experienced poser people try out my stuff before I post it for download, that way they could point out any flaws and I could fix 'em first..
take care,
M

Oh, also I forgot to mention...
Much thanks to you PhilC for your Matrix-style long coat and shades,
I recently found them and downloaded them. They are excellent, I think they are better than the ones I see people asking money for, you are very kind to make them available for a free download!!!
Thanks!

Thanks to you both for the above posts.. I copied the info for reference purposes...
That gives me most of what I was looking for, but I am still baffled by one thing....
When I go into the poser directories to find my custom light sets, props, materials, etc., to locate the files to be zipped, I do not find anything in any of the folders with the names I gave them within poser...
It's strange, I've looked through all the folders, the runtime in poser 7 and the runtime in the downloads section (this is where I save most of my stuff..) and I do not see anything with the names I gave them when I saved them to the poser library.. I have looked in other folders as well, being utterly mystified why I cannot find the file names anywhere...
I am not sure where they are, or perhaps I should be looking somewhere else, or perhaps poser doesn't use the library names, or perhaps I should be saving this stuff in a different place?
You guys may have already answered this question, and if so I apologize, but I do not understand why I cannot find any of the files with the names I gave them anywhere in the poser folders..

Hi Debbie,
No problem on this end, I know that mistakes do happen, but thankfully the software was sent to someone who is honest and cares that you will get it back.
The only thing I care about now is just getting my book. I have heard a lot of good things about it and have been excited to dive into it - ;-)
The software should get there pretty fast, probably tomorrow or the next day...
Thanks much,
Marcus

Hi,
Your software is on its way back to you,
I sent it this morning, priority mail.
Thanks,
Marcus

Hi Stac,
Thank you, I'm sorry this happened, too, but if I were the one filling orders in the shipping department, this kind of thing would not happen... lol
I know it is hard to trust a stranger in cyberspace, but I will get the software back to you tomorrow morning, even if I have to use some of my food money to do it.
I really appreciate your time and efforts to correct this,
Marcus

Hi Debbie,
I will be more than happy to ship the Poser 7 program back to you..
There is only one thing that concerns me, your computer says that my order has already been shipped and completed, so how can I know if I'll ever get my book?
I think a better way to do it would be to ship the book to me using UPS and have them pick up the Poser 7 software at the same time... that way I won't have to pay for a mistake someone else made...
As I said before, I'll be more than happy to get the Poser 7 software back to you, as long as I get my book as well...
make sense?
Please let me know if we can do it this way, I don't think I should be penalized for a mistake someone else made, I have already paid for my book...

Hi Debbie,
Thanks for getting back to me.
I was supposed to receive the Practical Poser 7 book...
Someone made a huge mistake, because what I received is the Poser 7 software program, which I already have and don't want or need.
I have not opened the CD cover, I looked in the box being utterly confused at first...
I would really like to exchange that for the Practical Poser 7 book.
Thanks a bunch,
Marcus55

Hi Bill,
Thank you for that response and it makes a lot of sense to me. Actually, after looking at the script and your post on RDNA, I realized exactly what you are talking about. Good advice, I will work with the manual setup that you posted to get a feel for it, then will go from there.
I have a little bit of experience working with code, so I am not all that intimidated by it, having gone to an IT school in the past and working with the SQL code. But a starting point, as you pointed out, is always the best way to go about learning something like that.
I confess I have a tendancy to want to jump in head first out of sheer excitement of learning something new, but first things first... lol
Thank you for taking the time to post a reply, I really appreciate it, and also for all the tips and work that you do for people who love poser. The material room can be a very daunting situation for most beginning poser users, I know it was for me when I first looked at it. After working with it a little bit over the last few months, I find myself now wanting to get more out of it as far as results, and seeing the results that you and some of the other more experienced people are getting is pretty exciting.
My job has a knack of dominating my time, but I will be working on this on a daily basis and hopefully get a better understanding of it within the next couple of weeks.
Thanks very much for the response,
Marcus
