Thread: New Blather Up... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
The main problem would be what you also see in the galleries, namely that some people give eachother an excellent even when it's really a work that needs...work. In the MP, you often find user's ratings that come clearly from either beta-testers or else from "the merchants who live on the hill". Which is why I never ever let myself be influenced by the rating system here. Like you guys say: it sucks. Sometimes there is real rating though. For example when someone writes that the bump is not correct in P5, or that there are visible seams where the neck texture of body and head meet,... That is valuable information. So I am very interested in getting an independant and thorough review of a product. I have read your "blathers", and your knife is sharp as a scalpel, but you use it to cure, not to hurt or kill. So I don't get why a thread like this should be closed. Or it should be because possible sources for kiddieporn, sm and ultraviolence may be sold, but not shown. (here we go again!) ehhh...

Poser can generate thumbnails, and you can add textures. So create a simple character M applied to that character and use it. Or start a book. (a local website is very handy). When I download an item (I don't have much freestuff), I alays download the images that go with the page(s) on which I found it and place them in their own folder. To this I add the readme (not when it's daz) and eventual templates. (those are often hidden under textures). I organise these folders the same way my runtime is organised, for example: V3_Clothes_MFD_Nymantian . Using Windows, I have Irfanview, a small picture viewer that also reads text files, and I have it open with Poser (it's the opposite of Poser: small, lean, effective and extremely well coded). When needing something, I can browse my catalogue and see what's available, and what's special. External morphs can be added and then saved as a separate character. As for complex packages: I often separate them into parts. Before adding anything to my runtime(s), I always rename all items that may be enamed so that they fit in my personal method. (character_category_subcategory_specific item). It took me quite a while to organise, but now I have a runtime system I like. BTW: too many runtime are a pita. You win on startup, but you lose on searching and changing. I personally have three: one "main", one for items I now consider second rate or rarely use, and one for freestuff. I also keep a second txture folder in which I keep all textures as I deleted all textures I don't like (mostly make up etc) Just sharing my method, not meant to know it better.

Thread: Texture Stretching Distortion (A remedy?) | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
The problem can easily be understood. Compare it to opening a pic of, say, 100x80 pixels and blowing it up to full screen. You will see pixels. The quality will deteriorate. That same thing can happen with UV. When you model something, as you well know, you get polygons whose size and placements are decided by the points on their corners (vertices). An uv map of your object has the same number of polyons and points/vertices as your model, and each point corresponds with one on the polygon mesh. U corresponds with the x-value, and V with the Y value. (z, the depth, is in this case not used). Now when uv coordinates are flattened out on a map, some distortion occurs. Like flattening the earth and seeing the continents on a map: some continents are larger than they really are, and some are smaller. In your case, some polygons on the map can be much bigger than they are, and some smaller. When now, on your map, you apply your bitmap image, the larger uv polygons will get a larger piece, and the smaller ones a smaller piece of your bitmap. When seen on your object, those polygons have the same size, yet some will have more of the bitmap texture than others. This is, simplified, the case. The remedy is more complex. If you own Bodypaint, you can larn to work with it. If you don't, and the invstment is too large, you may want to get UVMapper, which is a very good app. In there, you can move points of your uvmap, you can relax certain portions so that the distortion will become less.

I didn't download this particular item, and I never bought a merchant's kit. I have enough high quality skins (also by Morris) which are more that good enough to tweak and use. But I find that a restriction as special as this (not from a merchant point of view, but from the pov of a buyer who pays money for it) should be added to the main text of the page. Like tamelaJ does in her unforgettable 1 (no more bonus now is added several times in bold type to the main text). When you buy, you have the right to use. When this use is limited, then it should not be mentioned solely in the readme. The entire idea in itself is silly. Unless you see it as a merchant of course.

Thread: Aztecs? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Thanks. You can say it much better than I can. I've been browsing sites now for a few hours, and I did find a lot of good info. I also find that the four era's that preceded this one is a very good idea. Too much attention is forced towards those human sacrifices. In fact, just like saints in christian mythology, those people died for their belief. They considered it an honour to meet the gods. Yet my research led me to some doubt, and, although Chalchiuthlique was going to play a major role, I guess i'll have to change to Maya as the rainforest is also quite important. It was not my intetion to critique the Aztec princess. I'ts just that the idea of a loincloth is, indeed, fantasy. Clothes were worn for show, to discern classes and richess. A loincloth would not serve that purpose. It's about as bizarre as having the ancient Egyptian or Minoian women wear bra's. Arrghhh...musing, musing...

I sell you a car, but you may only drive it on the highway. I don't like the idea neither, and imo it should be very clearly stated on the rosity marketplace page. In bold. If not, the buyer should get a refund.

Yeah, the Aztec princess etc. I love fantasy, but not too much someone else's to use in my own stories. Thanks anyway. I'll dive deep into more research. Were women really clothed like that?
muralist: If you portray a village scene, or even a group, most children wouldn't wear kaftans that hide their carbon except for the face. Men cut their penises to spill blood as a way of giving back some liveforce to the gods. Women often tore a thorny twig along their tongue to spill blood for the same purpose. Prisoners were sacrificed, youngsters were thrown into a pit filled with water untill they either drowned or started to see visions and yes, they were naked,...And the Spaniards (I live in Antwerp and have access to some etchings on what they did to citizens when sacking the city) were not that friendly either. Men and women were tortured in the name of religion and the holy mammon called "Gold", women were raped and killed, a whole culture was destroyed, books were burnt,...
And what's left of the past is stolen by either official musea who have little no respect for the heritage of the surviving "indians" as they are studying these cultures in the name of holy objectivity, or by private collectioners who only want to posess objects out of greed.
Like the North American "indians", but a few centuries earlier. (ever saw Soldier Blue or Dead Man? Must see!)
In my story, this will be touched with a light feather as I find any kind of violence gruesome and unworthy. But a bit of it is inevitable to understand the rest. Some images can never ever be posted here, and that's neither my problem nor my concern.
As for the story itself, I'll use the wisest words George Bush Senior ever spoke: "Wait and see!"

Did you contact the creator of this free package first before starting this open-to-the-public thread? Perhaps everything had already been settled then. Second step, before starting a thread is to contact Morris and let her handle this. Third would be to contact an mod. Or are you trying to win friends?

I don't know, but when you have Poser 5 you can add noise etc to the displacement channel to get really weird effects.

Good that you mention this. I am musing on a story that begins and ends in Aztec culture. So I am looking for more root information before starting the first sketches and 3D works (with mostly Poser characters). So I'm attaching to this thread. I'm also interested in more info on how the Maya, who left their cities just like the Khmer, and mingled with the Toltecs relate to the Aztecs. Otoh: I guess most of their religious and cultural behaviour would never pass the Temple Of Shame here.

Thanks. It helps indeed. But there's something my little rey cells can't grasp. I mean: BH started with a mesh and changed settings of individual points. So, if you can change to another headmorph like that, one that does use the Daz injection morphs, it means that these do not take into account the original place of the points, but only their correct number. Then why, when changing from one character to another, both with Daz injmorphs, do you have to reset the original face first?
