BillyGoat, ... and any others interested, I finally figured out how to make the ocean spray droplets realistically attenuate (reduce) in size as they extend out into the air (after crashing on the rocks). I'll post another four or five pieces of ocean spray crashing on rocks on the web site on Tuesday at mid-day. Free for anyone interested in the contest. (Personally, I'd junk what you downloaded earlier. Modelling water is difficult, and I'm slow at working it out correctly, I think, so it takes me awhile to get it right. My apologies.)Thread: Upgrading system | Forum: Vue
Gaz, draklava is correct - multithreading is a function of the operating system. It is a process for passing process instructions to the cpu. But multi-threading, by itself will have no real effect in decreasing in your rendering time. For the two machines you are describing above, only the faster CPU and the faster bus speed will have an effect on rendering times. These should decrease your rendering time by approximately 30-34% percent, however. the amount of RAM really doesn't have any effect on rendering (only the CPU and bus speeds), but it will significantly affect your ability to model and place objects in your scenes. More RAM is a major help here, too. There are only 2 ways to speed up rendering in Vue - two cpu's (or more via linked machines and rendercow) or a faster processor. OF the two, more CPUs offer the most speed gain. A dual processor motherboard with 2 Pentium III 800 cpu's still outperforms a single Pentium 4 2.x cpu, but only in rendering. There are still a lot of those dual 800's widely available - for cheap prices. For all those thinking of a renderfarm (two linked PCs), this is most economically efficient way to get a major gain in rendering.

Am no artist, so I wouldn't dare enter this contest. However, I am passionate about water. Lately, I've started work on a commercial package of objects for making scenes of ocean waves crashing on rocks. If anyone would like pieces of this package to play with, go here and download a set of simple objects. These are really simple! http://www.expandingwave.com/wavecontest/index.htm Just click on the picture to download. Sorry the picture is sooooooo poor! I just threw something together in a hurry and exagerated the water drops to show what these look like. Unfortunately, I'm supposed to be working for a living today and have a raft of client problems to deal with. I'll post more objects to play with next week if I get a chance, and might even be able to take a few orders if anyone has something specific in mind - and its within my poor capabilities.

Done Kutter. Thank you for trying. Go here to see Mr. Eran Dinur's beautiful red flower. http://expandingwave.com/krahnplants/

OK, I'll take it onto my site, Kutter. Thanks for trying to help her. I posted a reply just now to her first message, so if she she's it, maybe she'll e-mail it to me. Then I'll post it tonite or tomorrow.

OK, Erika, can you email it to me? I'll put it up with Thomas' plants, if he's agreeable (I'll ask, don't you worry about this.) I can receive up to 10 MB in an e-mail package through my mail server. If yours won't let the whole flower though, let me know, and we'll figure out how to break it down. My web site can hold your flower with no problem.

Hi BillyGoat. I'll help, but I'm working onsite with a client now, until Sunday morning. Then I'll try to help.
Thread: Does Anyone Have or use a Scaling Tool? | Forum: Vue
OK, that's a good suggestion. I'll post it there tomorrow morning (GST-5) before I leave on a job.

Thread: Does Anyone Have or use a Scaling Tool? | Forum: Vue
I know just what you mean........ I use the numeric scaling and positioning tool on the right-hand top panel, in conjunction with a little 3D ruler I made for myself. Vue's scaling and coordinate tool is on one of the tabs behind the Material Editor. It works pretty well, and it is necessary when importing many objects. (Although many artists here do it by eye alone.) Vue's import function is not locked to the "world view scale", as in most 3d programs. So the input size of an object depends upon the number of polygons and vertices in the object. This means that each object comes in at a different in apparent scale(size) upon import. So, if you are working with many imported objects, you need to first establish a scale size for one of them, for a terrain (usually your biggest object), or, in my case, for my ruler, and then re-scale everything proportionally to that. This lets me coordinate the measurements of the "world" with the scaling tool in the upper right panel. Would you like a copy of this ruler? You can easily make one for yourself, you know. If you'd like a copy of my simple little ruler, send me an IM, or drop a line to sprucefir@earthlink.net

Nice job! If you still want to borrow some web site space, contact me at sprucefir@earthlink.net. I'll host. Not tonite, tho - going to bed for now.

It must be me, but I sure didn't find anything searching through the first entire set of Japanese links. Got a specific site in mind?

Thank you. Am looking through the links, now and appreciate the tip. A lot of "non-traditional" clothing so far.
