I used to have the problem with textures that wouldn't apply, but showed up when the material was copied. It usually turned out I'd overlooked one of the checkboxes toward the bottom, which could be fixed by copying the material. It depends on whether you're copying nodes or the root material whether tht root gets turned back on.
Thread: P7 Render - Single Thread - Separate Process | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
From the EF Poser 7 page:
"Render in a Separate Process: FireFly now has the option to run in a separate process from the application, which can yield performance advantages when rendering highly complex scenes. FireFly also lets your system manage memory more efficiently and provides better system stability due to the separation of rendering tasks."
So, it's a seperate process from the application, but you still have to finish rendering to do anything else within Poser? Or is this so I can start rendering, kill Poser and have resources free for other things? I just got Poser, boxed, yesterday and haven't played with it much yet...

While it's rendering in the background, you could be creating a new scene? (Yes, I understand it's a seperate task, but I've always been able to check and write mail while Poser was running. It's when I run Poser, Wings and Tattoo that I have problems on my 1GB, Athlon 1900+)

I'm very sure I've had the locked lights problem too. I don't have P7 yet, so maybe it was in 5 or an earlier version (pre-SR3) of 6...

But I will agree on some of these software company's ever growing greed...A perfect example for these companies on how NOT to perform Bison-rutting on the customers is Pixologic's example! ONCE you get their program, you are eligible for their ABSOLUTLY FREE upgrades!
To give you an idea, imagine owning Poser 3, and getting an upgrade to Poser 5...FOR FREE, and you'll see what I mean...Too bad Pixologic is the only pay-prog out there that does that!**
I think getting Poser5 for free and being able to get a cheap upgrade to Poser7 is quite a good deal. If it weren't a good deal then people who didn't get it wouldn't have been bitching so much about it.
I never thought too much about the SE content when ordering Poser7, but I am a sucker for limited-time-only freebies. If Poser7 actually has the new functionality listed in the "7 reasons" and remains as reliable (predictable?) as the current Poser6 SR3, then I'll have gotten precisely what I paid for.

Dang. I want shadows or ambient occlusion so i can use the preview as final output! (Thoughts of nice new TrueSpace preview...)

I've had this problem combining scenes in P6. Save the lights you want to keep, then delete them from the scenes and save them. After the scenes are conbined, reload the lights. This is the only way I've found around this problem. I think it's funny that half of the bugs found in a new release always seem to be the little noticed bugs from the previous one...

I'll definitely have to check out "Has Been". I heard that it was coming out, which reminded me I'd always wanted to hear "Transformed Man" since I saw Ben Folds on TV telling Shatner it was the album that changed his life (or something to that effect). Now to see if I can steer this back on topic...
Did anyone see/hear/read about the guy who recorded a song one note at a time and composed it in cakewalk (or something) and then made a video to match?

I like that concept alot, and it reminds me a bit of this discussion. I've been in a few noise bands, and have always thought I'd like to take some of the nicer bits from my old tapes and try to produce an actual melodic pop song from them. Watching this guy nonlinearly playing piano (I haven't heard it yet) makes me think that no matter how good the end result sounds, some people would never consider him a musician because of those methods. I think that's some kind of sentimental purism, and I just don't seem to have the genes for that as some people do. I actually think I might like the Grey album (Beatles+Jay-Z) better than the White or Black albums.

I just go into the group editor, and add a mat group to the head called nostrils (which obviously I do after selecting the nostril polys). Then I copy the head mat to the nostrils, set the specular to zero and lower the diffuse a little bit. Helps alot.

I think a large part of the problem is that there is a Poser specific paradox. It's not just the amount of free and commercial content that people are tempted to use, but also that it's always taken some kind of black magic to get things properly into Poser. I used Caligari (predecessor to TrueSpace) for years to make mecha (giant robots), vehicles, buildings etc. The one thing I couldn't do easily in it was to model figures as there were no bones, morphs etc. When I bought Poser I had ideas of using Poser figures sparingly in the background to add a new element to my work. I couldn't (and still can't) believe how difficult it was to get even simple props to work right. It took ages for me to discover that the obj format was the most neutral among my various tools and even after learning UV mapping I still had the problem of Poser trying to smooth all of my objects' hard edges. I've since learned more about object import/export settings, preserving my groups, and even a little rigging. I don't want to use a text editor or some strangely named utility to hack together a figure, nor would I imagine anyone would who was drawn to Poser for it's famed "ease of use". I'm surprised that I can't think of one single program, from Anim8or to zBrush, that a person can use to create a Poser ready figure without ever touching Poser, its various related utilities, or an existing premade figure. Anyone?

How many products do I have to buy, and how many times do I have to sign up, to be one of those people who actually get these freakin' mailings?

Monday, Dec 11th? That's great! I tend to use cash for anything I can, even my rent. I have a Visa checkcard for online purchases and bar tabs (for after the cash runs out) and just mentally deduct my purchases. When I saw my last balance I was like "Cool!" until I realised I essentially hadn't paid for Poser7 yet and had better be careful to make sure the money was still there when they decided to take it. Personally, I expect to be charged as soon as I order. It is a nice move on their part to wait until they ship, in case something unforeseen happens. Now I only have to worry about whether it will arrive before I go out of town for the holidays. I'd hate to think about my copy of Poser7 sitting on my porch (in a college town no less) for days.

Actually, the Shat just put out an album in the last year or so entitled "Has Been". Not sure how it compares to the wonderful "Transformed Man" which can fill a gap in any music collection.
Thread: Poser 7 is almost here! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL

People have been saying.... "Woe.. oh... woe..! The end of the World is nigh.!" since the Stone Age... and that hasn't happened... yet...
Perhaps... P7 will have a premature ejaculation and come sooner than expected...!
Would that be some kind of prop or a dynamic simulation?
I'll be here all night folks, be sure to tip your waitress!
