TalleyJC here... (mild mannered musician, and systems analyst by day) -"Animator X" by night...
I think Timoteo1's emphasis on "TRYING" is correct...
the slowness of P5 makes me want to take hostages and demand outrageous things like a monster truck filled with baked beans. Trying to use the mouse to do quick positional changes is still like a visit to the dentist.
And trust me I am not the mega-java-head screaming in front of the microwave "C'mon!! C'mon!!"
I personally can't wait until we get a whole butt-load of patches for it because it does show so much promise...
But I really hate having the paramter dial window hide all the time as well as having to switch to the dials tab from the properties tab continously. Granted there is tons more of bells and whistles but the interface would better be labled as Inyourface.... and then I get bitch-slapped often with the twilight zone freezes that leave holes pointing to my underlying desktop {like zoinks! scoob!... its like the whole app is swiss cheeze --- man!)
I also have to say that I am positive that "Firefly" is a inside joke at CL refering to its blinding speed. I'll also bet names like Zippy, Rocket and Super-Mega-Colosus were used.
I long for the day when p5 is as stable and comfortable as p4.
Certain things blow my mind. CL has to know that every person on the planet that has Poser has Victoria or Michael in some form or another.... why then, would Judy and Don be only marginally above Dork and Posette?
Give me a face room that allows the number of morphs on V2's face.
Before sending me hate-o-grams I am not trying to bash my beloved poser I am however, a little disappointed from all the hype to what was released.
The materials room I am sure has a great deal to offer but its really hard to tell from the manual. I think this forum will be the only place people can learn what half of this stuff will do but for many more, the functionality will be lost. These same people will have to sacrifice speed for advanced functions that will never get used.
Any way.... They did a great job, but I NEED the patches.
As far as a niche market I know you could sell a ton of these:How about this for an idea....
A set USB metal skeleton puppets that send pose data in real time. I've seen things that henson and other big cg shops use for this... I am sure that it could be produced for a home market. Think how easy it would be to have a hand that you could pose (better yet a glove to wear) that you used to pose your models hands and then step on a pedal to advance 1 frame. Same thing for a Human skeleton..... We as animators could quickly do better more natural body poses and then be able to concentrate our time on faces where we all know is how you breath life into these things.

Bobasaur.... Sorry no I don't have anything for you to hear online. (That is to say I have stuff on reels from before I went digital, but I haven't taken the time to remix - I will have to one day for preservations sake but I never seem to get around to it.) I play english style progressive (like old genesis, yes...etc) But the bands I was in never did make it to completion... So there are tons of pieces with either a missing vocalist, guitarist blah blah. And yes I am familiar with Performer and many of the mac stuff. Mac afterall is still the industry standard using motu and pro tools.... I never did get to mac because I was pretty sure apple was going belly up there for a while...... but I am soo sick to death of Gates bullshit that I may switch soon.... I've been on Cakewalk since the DOS version. I'm on Sonar 1.X Didn't see the need for version 2.... They are starting to lose me as well... if I wanted Sonic Foundry's ACID I would buy it. And Bikermouse.... I do live in an apartment... That's the second bedroom =0)

It happens to me once in a while... I am in the habbit of saving before rendering.... I think it come down to a file sharing problem.... some how related to number of frames and frame rates. I think that depending upon the number of frames and how your machine might be buffering or cache writing, the file is not closed when the player tries to open it.

I would like to reserve my place as "Animator X " I was animating on day 1 when I got poser and it amazed me that I seemed to be alone. I thought it was the whole point of poser..... anyway, most of my animations have been for my own amusment... But I like CAT's idea of sharing the wealth of knowledge... It would have been a great help to me when I started. So go ahead and pick numbers.... Lets get to the High six figures....... I just want to be X =0)

I am animator X. That is to say I have been doing animations with poser - in secret. I've learned quite a bit and I will be glad to help out.
Thread: Animation Help (1 of the 12?) - Sound Sync | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
What I have so far..... Either Pinnacle or Indeo report time differently.... within pinnacle the time is 33 seconds the Audio is 16bit Stereo 44.1k PCM (no Compression) Sound and vid sync.... After export video and time shrink to 25 seconds When I tried to recombine, the audio was then short... its weird. So I went back and re did the video with no changes except dropping the sound.... I pulled it into sonar and added the 25 second audio and it lines up. There has to be a better set of codecs/ compression settings editing software ect.... Any hints?
Thread: Animation Help (1 of the 12?) - Sound Sync | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
This is what I did step by step: Created 8 Poser Separate Animations at full res Compressed them each separately Import each into Pinnacle to derive a complete sequence out to a new AVI with sound Exract sound from AVI as wav Import wav into Sonar and overdub (no trimming no additional length) Export wav... results in same length as original video. Try to apply new audio to original video... it doesn't match Video card = 16meg Diamond Viper 550
Thread: Animation Help (1 of the 12?) - Sound Sync | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
The audio/internal synch is a possibility... I switch that depending on which device I use as a clock. My machine has plenty of horse power even with tons of effects and tracks running in real time. The sample rate may be an issue - I'll have to look at that but it would seem to me that that is the frequency for recording the digital image and not effect play back lengths. Like I said the audio remains the same length in time but the video seems that its longer than the first export.
Thread: Animation Help (1 of the 12?) - Sound Sync | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
In my case the 25 second audio was taken from the processed video which was also 25 seconds. The unprocessed video when I go back to editing appears to be 30 seconds. When I import the audio its 5 seconds short. Its like the unprocessed video and audio were 30 seconds... when processed and saved as an avi, the video and audio become 25 seconds. I don't want to reuse the processed video as it would lose quality.

I am current with all patches (at version 1.03 I think) I had all patches prior to the 2.0 release. The video will play but the audio will freak out and sound like a cd skipping. I've been a cakewalk user since version 2 for DOS. The video support was always lame thats why I don't really use it. It works great for audio and midi but I don't know anyone that uses it for video editting If you do, maybe I just need to set buffers or something... have you made settings changes for video?

Sonar seems to choke when I tried using the video. (Even on a 1ghz p3 with 512meg of ram)

Also... I don't know if people notice this or not but when changing light color you can use the little eye-dropper to sample colors from any where on the screen (including the background picture...) that way its a perfect color match
Thread: UFO Picture Need Help and Opinions | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Play with the lighting to match the shade and direction of the light source (pay attention to the ground shadows....) Try to place a ground shadow for the saucer in the snow... Move the saucer off center, also play a little with the focal length. the picture and the ufo look like they are using different focal lengths... Possibly add a little motion blur... the edges are too crisply focused... Just what came off the top of my head
