"The entire path (excluding the quotes) must not exceed 62 characters in length for it to function on the MAC." --from here: http://market.renderosity.com/news.php?viewStory=13164 I'm not sure if it's changed; I'm on a recent non-Intel Mac and have not had any path problems, but I can't be sure if that's simply because I haven't run into one long enough to cause a problem as yet.

Thread: Poll: How Much $$ Have You Spent On Poser Models This Year? All time? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
A frightening amount, is about all I can say about that. "More than I should" is a good answer, too. I've not done the math. The fiance would be fine with it (he has his anime and DVD collection that is taking over half of the living room, after all) but I'm terrified to look at the numbers myself!

Thread: V4.1 characters | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - Did Daz give a special deal on upgrading from 4.0 to 4.1?
Yep. All you have to do is request a reset of your download of V4 and you'll automatically get V4.1 as a download, so it's entirely free. If you bought a bundle, just request a reset of the bundle; the only things you'll need to redownload are the V4 base package and the Morphs++ package since the other items included in the bundle are the same. Just a personal note of reference, I list V4.1 since I do use the brow prop/brow transmaps and some of the new face morphs in V4.1.

Thread: Request: Vendors, please identify Hair used in your characters for sale: ideas? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - A quick bullet point summary of what to do, to achieve the look you've gotten, in the readme, would also be much appreciated.
Maybe it's just me, but - would others like to see that, too? Knowing the specific hair used, at a minimum, would be great, plus a hotlink URL to where to buy it, if we don't already have it..
I sometimes remember to do this, other times I haven't. Render settings for hair textures (which I do) are often a matter of preference. Character sets I'll describe render settings for. As far as hotlinking goes, it's not often possible unless the item is also sold here. Take a peek at http://market.renderosity.com/news.php?viewStory=13160 and scroll down to the links section, near to the bottom. We have to abide by these guidelines at all times when submitting items; some of the questions and concerns you have are not necessarily in the vendor's contol, but a lot of the 'why' can be found here.

Thread: shaders and nodes overkill? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
The differences may be more clearly seen closer to 'final' mode. It will also reduce the clumped look of the lashes to some extent, which is a plus. Raytracing often really helps, also.

Some of what you're seeing may be due to the render settings in general. What settings are you using for the actual render?

I have to agree with kuroyume here; especially in the latter trio of images, the differences are rather profound.

This is seriously nifty! Many thanks to Anton and the other contributors on these. The likeness on this (and the previous Bond) are really remarkable. And Vin Diesel next? huge grin Pardon me while I try not to be a horribly squeaky fangirl. chuckle

Thread: Victorian Hoserie (for the shoe)... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
There's a livejournal community that specializes in vintage pin-up images and Victorian nudie postcards that might be handy for this. I'll see if I can find anything there if you like -- but honestly, those look wonderful. Most styles did go up over the knee, yes, but I half-remember seeing some like these also, though they may be slightly later (or earlier... my costume history brain is on vacation this week).

Thread: Converting on Mac OS X | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I use Poser on OSX, but I don't use the converter. I have actually not needed to convert any items, even where it says it will be necessary. Have you tried using the files as they are (unconverted)? If you have classic on your system -- which you might if you don't have an Intel Mac -- you should be able to run the converter in classic mode. Classic doesn't run on the Intel Macs, unfortunately, but the upside is that I don't think conversion will be required then. It may be necessary with some items, but I've not encountered any yet.

Thread: Is it me or am I just seeing things?? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
(You're a brave soul, Uni. grin A brave, brave soul.) Believe it or not, I think a lot of us do look at threads like these even if we don't comment directly. It's hard not to get a little defensive when -- or uneasy about -- speaking up, but more people are probably paying attention than you might expect. Stepping in is like volunteering to go under the microscope, and that in itself can be a little scary. (In my case, reading up on these threads is part of my cunning secret plan to some day make my customers think I'm psychic and that I can read their thoug--wait, I shouldn't be typing that out loud, should I?) I'll often enough see statements like "I never see this option I like... " or "Why has no one made... " only to know of at least three or four items off of the top of my head that would fit the bill, but even then, it's not quite as simple as that since personal tastes will enter in. What Unicornst says is very true; it is sometimes hard to find what you are looking for, but it is often worth the time and effort to keep looking. There is more variety out there than you might expect. Usually, "We need more -specific thing-!" and "There is too much -specific thing-!" will appear in the same thread, too, so not everyone is looking for the same things.

Thread: V4 Seam Kit? | Forum: The MarketPlace Wishing Well
grin I have that one and it is wonderful; I couldn't do a thing without it -- I'm talking about the resource type items where it's a basic skin texture just in the seam areas done with projection painting software to tackle the scary transition areas. http://market.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/index.php?ViewProduct=37543& is the sort I am thinking of. grin

Thread: Shrek graphics are great but the whole animation and story is too Kiddy,, why?? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - Also here's an interesting look at the whole thing... When you compare the largest online message boards:
The largest one, a 7.5 million strong forum, is an anime themed board. There is nothing even close for all hollywood animated movies combined. Makes you wonder why some hollywood type isn't going after this market.
Online message board membership isn't really as massive a significator as one might expect. Heck, I have an account on Gaia... somewhere, since a friend of mine wanted to show me a thread there. I logged in all of that once and probably wouldn't ever be able to remember what user name it was under. Happens a lot on a lot of boards. It's also international so far as I know -- and 7.5 million accounts, while a big number for an internet message board, is a drop in the bucket for the US population not to mention world population. Disney has actually taken an interest in anime. They're the ones distributing Studio Ghibli's work in the US last I checked. It tends to be easier for US media companies to pick up successful Japanese titles and dub them (often badly), subtitle them, or just re-release them here than it is for them to develop something themselves that has a similar feel or mood and have it produced. I have a feeling that may change when the current crop of artists, writers, and animators that's likely in college now hits the job market; it's a substantially stronger influence now than it was even ten years ago, not to mention twenty. Twenty years ago, I used to know which stores on my coast carried anything related to anime. Now, there are more than that carrying anime and related merchandise in a 10 mile radius. Food for thought, you know?
