They said to fall back to 13.3.686. I did and it fixed it.I know this is an old thread, but I'm not finding that to be the case with the last update of P13. It does render one bucket at a time, but watching resources, it only uses a couple of threads per bucket, significantly slowing things down. It does the same in progressive mode. Previously, it would use all available cores and render much faster. The Superfly render engine has changed a lot under the hood. In P12 one thread would render one bucket, so you'd set the number of buckets to match the threads available for CPU rendering. However in P13 that has changed - all threads render one single bucket at a time.
Two options - either increase the size of the bucket (more threads = bigger bucket, though RAM will play a role too) or switch Progressive Rendering on which will then ignore the bucket setting.
The Log will give you an exact time for each render to compare different settings.
In addition, I've found that P13 needs less samples than P12, I'd suggest try halving the setting first. With both P12 and P13 installed you should be able to do some comparisons. Also the Denoise post-process option is imo better than P12.
Basically I've found that P13 is significantly faster for me.

Thanks!
that's an easier work around than my (export as obj and re-import) method. I should have thought of that.
I sent a note to the vendor too.
Thanks again for getting back to me.
Honestly, I'm not shy about digging into the code side- I just wish I knew what to look for.

Just to be clear - this is still a problem... I don't think Nerd's solution worked. (but I may have done it wrong)

it's not previously checked. I also looked under twist and side-to-side.
I'm probably doing something wrong - is this what you are directing me to do?

Thanks, but I'm a bug magnet, but not a bug fixer. :P@sturkwurk
Ask JennBlake here on Rendo if you want to get on the beta tester team

yep, a very long time ago :)@sturkwurk
didn't you have a bunch of freebies here at Rendo a long time ago? I seem to remember some superhero stuff of yours that I downloaded.

I used to test for Poser on the Smith Micro team.

that was the lowest blend I found that worked... if I added one more decimal it failed.

that fixed it! Thank you for taking the time to figure it out!I did some hunting this morning
These scatter nodes seem to be the problem. They turn any pure black to white. Changing any of the settings in the nodes does nothing to help. Change the black even the slightest and it works again. You can edit the actual image or you can use a mix node to make it work.

Got a link? (Love your products btw)@sturkwurk
I think the old EZScin3 mats are a little off in P13. I have a SSS skin thread in the P13 forum with examples and mat room materials

Yes, my M4 does it alsoI've seen this too. I had meant to investigate it more and then post here to see if others have seen the same issue, then report it as a bug. Unfortunately, RL has been a bit crazy lately and I forgot. And it's not just on Vicky. It was either M4 or L'homme I was working with.

I just tried saving one of the jpgs that acts up as a Png, bmp, PSD... they all still do the same thing

exactly - I can't find the reasoning on why some work and others don't, but they are consistent. In comparison with the images you provided, there shouldn't be any reason, under the same set of conditions, that one set of textures works and the other doesn't. There are a good number of users that are shying away from EZSkin and conforming to using the PhysicalSurface node or Cycles node for Superfly rendering. Snarly is considering revamping EZSkin to use the current Superfly alternatives, I'd be willing to test run the prototypes.
Ghostship has created Superfly-specific eye shaders for V4 and, IIRC, you should find them in the free section.

if I could figure out why some textures do it and others don't... and it was something I could alter on the offending textures... I'd be all for it.

Thanks for getting back to me, Sorry - This is Superfly.Suggestion, plug the problem diffuse map directly into the Scatter Node and note if there is a difference. Also, change the HSV node for the HSV_2 node, that's the node you should be using as a replacement.
BTW, Firefly or Superfly? You did not specify which render engine you are using.
I did try plugging the map directly into the scatter node - it still had the problem.
the most curious thing is - I can find other textures that work just fine.
