Congratulations! I wish you a lot of fun with it.
To help you with your first question ( there will be more, believe me) : Set up your preferred scene ( get rid of andy, change the lights, etc. etc.), click edit on the menu bar. Click general preferences. Check on launch behaviour-> launch to preferred scene. and press "Save preferred scene".
If you want your interface to be always the same: click the interface tab and check on launch behaviour-> launch to previous state.
Oh yes and click OK at the bottom.
This is always the first thing I do when I have a new upgrade of poser, I have already to few hairs to pull out.
Happy rendering!
Bopper.

Thread: How to save figure body poses with hand poses: Help | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Perhaps a bit superfluous, but did you use select subsets? Poser by default doesn't save the hand settings. What I always do is: select subset, click the universe to uncheck everything and click victoria or any other modell you are using and every part within the model is selected including the hands.
I always save without morphs and without world translation.
-Don't use the morph++ dials of Victoria in the hands like spread and grasp, they aren't saved with the pose.
-Uncheck IK.
Good luck.

Well how safe is share cg ? I can open .zip I cannot open .rar .So any safe free .rars around ? If Karina did not have permission to do this then DAZ will have share cg take V4 down soon.
How safe would it be to down load meshes from sketchfab ?
I don't like viruses n all
I download dozens of files from sharegc for a couple of years, and I never had any virus, so you can presume it is safe. Sharecg is in my opinion a serious websitefor hobbyist making freestuff, although recently you can also sell your stuff. Sasha-16 works only when you own V4 and its morphs just like V4WM did, so I think it is rather legal. I have been working with Sasha-16 for a couple of days now and I really can recomment her.
Best regards,
Bopper.

Thread: OT: Steve Cox UV Mapper - Anyone use it? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Allthough it is a rather old program, it is still very powerfull. I use it very often to change materials and to make groups of exported marvelous design and Zbrush objects, and to correct smoothing, normals, bad facets and so on.

Thread: converting poses question | Forum: DAZ|Studio
There is thread a the DAZ freebie forum about a freebie that converts poses from A3 to V5, V6 and v6, M4 to M5, M5 and M6, and V4 to V5, V6 and V7 and I have tried V3 and that also worked. It's not a quick method, because you can only one pose at the time and you have to save it yourself, but IMHO it does a better job than the commercial converters. I spent a whole weekend converting my over 300 selfmade V4 poses to V7, but it was worth it.

Bopper

Thread: OT: One of the worst, most badly written scam emails I've ever had. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I had a friend ( a very dumb friend) scammed with something similar on Craigslist when he tried to sell a guitar. The scam is that someone sends you a message that they want to buy your item, then they send you a check for $2000 and claim that it was a mistake. They instruct you to cash the check for $2000 and send back the difference and the item you were selling. My friend almost got arrested at the bank for trying to cash the check. My friend also believes in Bigfoot, UFO's, chem trails and voted for trump so pretty easy to see why he got scammed.
Don't be too harsh on your friend, I've got scammed by telephone by someone who was claiming she was from microsoft, before I realized it was a scam, they got into my computer and locked it. I have always said this would never happen to me, but it did. I switch down my computer, but the damage was already done, and the only solution was to erase my harddrive and reinstall windows, I lost a couple of months work inspite of having a backup. My IQ is more than average but i'm a little too trustfull from time to time. I was called several times after that occasion with the same nonsense, but I never trapped again. I had a call with microsoft about this, but they said they would never contact me like this. It was a hard lesson, I always have a good virusscanner, a firewall, I always throw away nigerian emails but I never expected something like this. So be warned.
best regards,
Bopper
BTW . I would never have voted for Trump.

Thread: Cycles PBR shader for transmapped hair? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I have built 86 AFAIK and sometimes I get some errors, but that's got more to do with the firefly setup.
Transmapped hair is a very difficult thing to setup a shader for. a lot depends on the original textures that were used, but also on the geometry of the hair figure or object. I included a cycle hair shader in my plugin and some hairs renders great ( ye olde kozaburo hair works great) but some modern hairs look like s**t.
I've made a good shader for dynamic hair so I use a lot of dynamic hair these days, the rendertime has improved hugely with older version of poser.

I would like to hear what kind of work it needs. I have been working for months now on this plug-in and it's the first time I put it officially to public. I would like to have some feedback so I can improve it.

I have made two plug-ins for EZskin3, One for skinshaders and another for cloth materials : cloth, leather, satin, nylon, velvet, plastic and metal. For more information you can have a look at the official SM-poserforum, because I can't give any links here.

I have made a cycles based skinshader plug-in for EZ-skin3 (so poser11 only). Because I can't give a link, more info at the official SM-poserforum. There is also a second plug-in for cloth materials.
Here is a sample render:
