I don't think I could make myself "subscribe" to software; assets sure, but I just won't rent software. I guess i could fire up a 32-bit version of windows 7.. but I was doing modeling in 3d studio, characters in poser, and animation & compositing in Vue; it sounds like i'm going to have to come up with a complete new methodology.I feel ypour pain. Even if you do find a copy, It may still cost you $200 to get it activated as Bently Software charges to reactivate legacy installations. You would be better off just subscribing to the Vue Creator package by the month, as content exporters are not disabled on the non-pro versions.  https://store.e-onsoftware.com/legacy-license-re-activation/
sigh.

While I have received some off-site replies, non on renderosity, which ... have things changed THAT much?
Moving it to a slow/low burn project.

Thank you.
I thought my best course of action would be to install the versions that I had mastered, use them a bit to dust off the dormant memories, THEN consider what to upgrade...but Eon (Vue) seems to have lost my account (and the ....LOT of money in licenses I spent there), Daz3D isn't showing the vast majority of what I bought for Poser (not a single Victoria, for instance, and certainly not the free, but registered bryce 5.5 and lightning...). From what I'm reading, at least Eon has a decent excuse (hacked, sold, hacked again...).
I hate to do this, but I think I have no choice. Time to dig out the TAPE BACKUP.
at least renderosity & autodesk seem to have retained their respective marbles...

If anyone was going to go to any extreme measures to help me, stop; noting the dates involved, and actually using a brain cell, I found a complete runtime backup on DVD's I did in late 2008. thousands of freebies, well over a thousand in poser purchases , and all the stuff I had made up to then...yippie!

This link should take to you to the original post about Roddick, but it seems it's no longer available, well it was 10 years ago :)
I have it and if you are able to get permission from d-larsen I could pass it on.
I'm a little torn. the posting history here ended in early 2005, and the website where it was posted, according to the wayback machine, stopped operating as a 3D content type website in early 2005; google says the name had some action on runtimedna and another poser website in early 2005 also. so d-larsen dropped off the face of the earth, apparently. Does anyone know if Dale W. Larsen WANTS to be contacted? Anyone kept in touch? If not, I sort of hate to keep digging. But thanks?

I found a render of the Roddick character, but no sign of it on the net nor my drives. If someone can come up with the site it was from, it might be on the WayBack Machine...
Yup, that's the figure. I remember it was a freebie on a couple of sites, 'otica and I think runtimeDNA. maybe with the full name of the creator I can make some progress. Thank You.
Thread: Darn it, messed up my fonts again. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - I never install fonts into my font folder. I always keep them in a separate folder and when I want access to them, I simply open the font and minimize it to my tool bar and any program that I open will now have access to that font, so long as it stays open and minimized in my tool bar.
To view a font, I use a font viewer program called "Printer's Apprentice"

holy... I've been a computer professional in various disparate fields since 1987, and I have never, ever, ever heard of this. Wow.

I tried all that, I'm not sure if the system restore would have worked or not, because my earliest system restore was the day AFTER I installed the fonts. I managed to fix it by deleting all the fonts that looked anything like poser was showing, but I remember there being a real simple fix for this, darn it.
I THINK it had something to do with editing the file "asifont.map": from what I remember, poser looks for a font that is closest in style to a font that USED to be installed on all Windows & MAC systems back in Poser 1.0 days, but hasn't been there since. Or something like that.
Or was it something that was in the registry?

regardless, thanks for the help kalypso

Anyone else use a program called "Lifeforms" to manipulate BVH files? Weirdly it's mainly for designing choreography, but it has some great tools to translate bvh files from 1 figure to another.
MagnusGreel, if the blender crew does come up with a cheap and easy way to do use the kinect to create BVH's, I will cry (or at least moan soulfully); after having zero problems learning how to use Lightwave, 3dStudio, Poser, Bryce, DazStudio, etc, and minimal problems learning Maya, Lifeforms, I have completely given up on learning Blender; the interface is just too non-intuitive**.** it gives me a headache at about the 24-hours-of-attempting-to-figure-it-out mark.

The first 2 items I tried to download had bad links; I don't see a way to report this sort of thing, didn't the old site have a button that said "click here to report bad links"?
Thread: changing poser ui font | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
OK, what worked for me was a shot in the dark, and I'm pretty sure it won't work for Mac.. I deleted the toto.ttf font, and rebooted. It was not listed in languages.xml, or any other place, including the registry system fonts, so i can't explain it. but it worked in Poser 6.
Thread: changing poser ui font | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I remember it happening back in Poser 4, and remember finding the answer here.... and it's popped up again in Poser 6 and I came here to find the answer, also.
If I find an answer that would work for you, I'll make sure to post it.
Thread: Poser 8 Complaints...If you have them...please read... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Poser 5 was terrible. Too many new features, they never did get it working properly IMO. Poser 6 I've been pretty happy with, from the start. I wish the dynamic hair was a little easier to work with, but overall I like it. I tried 7 and didn't see why they bothered to release it.... I don't know anyone that has a poser 8 I can check out, but if they are holding to the even numbered versions rule, it should be good.

*There is, it's called Poser Pro
"I stopped using it, for me it didn't deliver the increased render speeds promised in Vue6"
Not having Vue6 I can't really say, but Vue 5 rendering on 4 machines is at least 4 times faster than Poser 6 rendering on 1 machine, if set to similar resolution settings; is 6 that much slower than 5?
Having been burned buying Poser 3 & 5, I'm strictly on the even numbered poser purchase rule; hearing that Poser 8 will make GOOD use of multicore hardware is good news. I assume Poser Pro 2010 will be the pro version of Poser 8; makes sense.
Thank you for the good info.
