I will keep that in mind for next time. Thanks for the warning and advice. I am sorry it didn't work out for you LMcLean.
And I understand where you are coming from Cheers and I can see the reasoning behind any studio's decision. It all comes down to cost in the end...
Take care

Thread: Some Help please: | Forum: Vue
Hi silverblade33. The only reason I havent/cant do that is because I have pretty much maxed my computer resources. The scene stands now at 1.6 billion polygons and another terrain crashes my machine. I have tried a few times and though I have created a scene (Southern Migration) with significantly more Polly's (around 4 billion), some scenes dont like/allow you to add to them I assume it has to do with the type of objects being used. I thank you for the suggestion though:) To wabe, I created my terrain the usual way, then exported the terrain out as a .jpg file. Opened it in Photoshop and the aria for the river was made white, and the other parts of the terrain were made black. Back in Vue, I created a mixed material (parametric) and used the map I made in Photoshop to drive/separate the materials. Thanks... Gareth:)

Oh, one more thing, make sure you are not infected with a virus when you create the back up, or all you'll do is reinstall it with everything else...lol Gareth:)

I know How you feel, my friend. I have two things that I rely on and have gotten me out of some very sticky situations. The first is a 300GB Maxtor USB2 Hard drive and the second is Norton Ghost (2004 I think). With Norton Ghost, I create a ghost backup (an exact copy of my system including Windows itself, Ghost runs in DOS so Windows is also backed up) of both my C and D drive, which is saved directly to my 300Gb Maxtor. I try to do this once a month. The cool thing with Norton Ghost, is the fact that I can then totally format both my C and D drive, install Windows, install ghost and nothing else. I then only have to run Ghost and tell it to reload the backup I created... It asks me if I wish to overwrite windows, I click yes because I really cant be bothered to reinstall all my windows updates and programs, then sit back and watch it do its magic. About an hour later (my backup is about 50Gb in size) Windows, my Apps and even my desktop image are back to where they were when I created the backup. You might want to consider this route as the time saved is considerable compared to all the downloading and installing you have to do now. (I am talking hours if not days worth of saved time) I got burned too many time and I wont let it happen again... Take care, my friend... Gareth:)

Thread: Multipass and Photoshop help please: | Forum: Vue
Thanks for your answer agiel:) I have just done something similar to what you said and it worked... This is what I did... I opened up the Multipass render in Photoshop CS2, went to the z_depth layer, selected all then moved over to the Channels tab and selected the Default Alpha Vue created and Pasted my selection there, and all my range of greys and whites were transferred across. Now I can click anywhere on the image and try different focal points in the image like that plug-in you got:)

If you want to render it at 10800 X 8100, your best bet is to "Select Render Area" under Picture on the Toolbar Menu, and divide your picture into blocks (in your mind) and Render selected aria and save, then render the next block/tile and save that. You'll have to stitch them together in Photoshop, but you can render huge images that way. Gareth:)

Thread: A small question that needs an answer please: | Forum: Vue
That is a beautiful example. I wish I could do something like that. Are/would you be willing to make the mat available for download.

Thanks, agiel. I think your examples are close to why I asked this question in the first place. I want to drive my eco using the colour map. The colours seem to look and map so well in the editor that If I could get it working like that, I could start to work on a way to drive the Eco using them.
