Hi Bloodsong is right Unify polygons is the solution. This will unite polygons that share the same 3d space. Bryce and Lightwave will render these ok. Poser will not. Lathing an imported eps in Lightwave often causes this. Merge polygons in LW will merge two selected polygons into one. You could also try Align polygons in LW so that they face the same way. Assuming they are single sided polygons (one surface normal). Earnest

Thread: I need help with a gorilla model | Forum: Poser Technical
Hi If you have split up the mesh and named the body parts (group statements) G Hip g Abdomen g Chest g Neck g Head etc etc You then need to create a PHI file using a standard Text editor (I use BBEdit). This is a type of shopping list listing... 1. Where the model is. 2. The body parts that make up the model. A list of the body parts in order with their xyz rotation orders (curves for a tail if needed). 3. The IK Chains. A list of the body parts that need to influence each other when moved, as if linked in a chain. The Legs and Arms are an example of this. Once you have done this... You can use the convert hier file feature of Poser to create the standard joints automatically, but you will then need to adjust/fine tune these using the joint editor. Look at the sample PHI files on the Poser CD For an idea how to get this far. It is easier than you think... Failing that post a list of your body parts here and description of the default pose of the Gorilla and I will post a PHI file, then maybe wyrwulf can do the JPs!!!... Good luck
Thread: An unexpected hazard with long group names | Forum: Poser Technical
Hi That is interesting. I was about to post a similar type of error... I created a very simple 3 grouped chain and called the middle group body. Did it via the .PHI file method, which placed a cr2 in the library ok. However, Poser 4.0.3 would always crash the Mac when I tried to load it. It appears Poser 4.0.3 was confusing the BODY with my Body group in the cr2 file, when trying to load it. Spent ages trying to suss out the problem. Why as it seems such an obvious clanger on my part, well Poser 3.0.1 worked ok with this. I also get: Cannot find the g type errors in Poser 4.0.3 when using the .PHI method where the files are named correctly and Poser 3.0.1 will load them no problem. Suggests there maybe a Poser 4.0.3 bug hidden in there somewhere. Perhaps should do a dos and donts on the PHI way... Take care
Thread: Lathe axis Carrara bug? | Forum: Carrara
Hi Thanks guys. On lathe I will try though if you follow manual way control/command (whatever) it brought up a list of unrelated tasks. Will try again though. Regarding the memory Running Carrara on Mac 9.1 with 1gb of ram and no other software. No conflicts found. Want it to work but.... It also has annoying habit of triangulating various meshes on import. At least RDS on a G3 is fine. I guess we will stick with that for now. Thanks again.

How does Bodypaint create the mesh as a template? Nothing in manual regarding this??? Love to know....
Thread: To single mesh | Forum: Poser Technical
Hi guys.. Thanks for the responses. xyz coordinates were on zero. That was ok. But did try just to export with weld vertices. ie as step 1 above but with weld vertices only selected for both. Then reimported prop and applied pose (morph)...worked fine. Sometimes the answers are just too simple... So many thanks.

Set morph target dial to 1, all others to 0. Export as morph target. Load in other character that has same body part/vertice count.

Get a copy of BBEdit lite (free), sorry cannot give URL off top of me head tho possibly www.barebones.com. You could purchase full version 6 but lite will do the trick... Before you start duplicate your cr2 file. Just in case... Open BBEdit and open cr2 file. This will give you a series of lines of text mainly in form of numbers. Do a find for .obj and this should locate the two lines that point to your .obj file. Edit both these lines so that they point to the .obj file and the folders that your .obj file is nested in. Then hit save, not save as (if you do a save as you will need to change the file Creator/Type in Resedit to cr2T/PZ3A, otherwise Poser will not see it as a Poser file). Put back in Poser library folder and open from within Poser. All should hopefully be ok.... flamethedog

One thing I would suggest is restrict the side-to-side of the 2 and 3 groups of each finger. There are a number of ways to do this. You could set limits restricting this to an angle of zero, or just restrict the JPs so that the fingers 2/3 do not move side-to-side Where you set the centre of thumb 1 in hands is also very important, so that when the thumb is bent it does not influence the index finger and tear it apart. etc flamethedog
