Thread: (OT) OMG! I'm returning the computer from HELL!!!! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
One suggestion for the do-it-yourselfers: let one vendor provide the motherboard, cpu and RAM. Ask them to assemble everything, install the heatsinks and fan on the cpu and then burn it all in for 24-48 hours. This way you know that what you're getting works and has been tested. They may charge a few extra dollars for the service, but is well worth the peace of mind when you consider that these are typically your most expensive components.

Unfortunately the threads do not automatically switch to "read" after you access them. I don't really understand why they can't program that in because it sure would be easier and less confusing. However it's been like this since the change to PHP and I don't think it will be changing.
Well, I guess that answers one part of my question.
The other part is why can't it be programmed to automatically switch to "read" like most other forums, emails, searches on Google, items on eBay or ... everything else everywhere else...?????

TrekkieGrrrl,
Looks like you're simply going to have to move to England or the USA!
BTW, I HATE when you see something like 10.000 instead of 10,000 - it looks utterly wrong!

Two things:
1- there is a checkbox for "ignore hand collisions" in your clothroom simulation setup. simply check it and the Hand lifting the skirt issue will go away.
2- go into the animation palette, select the entire arm or forearm or whatever you feel will be the easiest to modify and then delete all the associated keyframes and just put in a few appropriate keyframes to get the movement you want. Pay close attention to your Animation Layers.
Also, before you give yourself too much additional work, remember that only what is seen by the camera matters. Once a figure is in motion, it will not matter as much if the farside hand has some collisions if they are not apparent in the animation.

jd,I've made the link clickable for others to use more easily.
Thanks. I'll check it out later today.

re: dave3d's method, be sure to set foreground color to 255, 255, 255 and bg color to 0, 0, 0 before rendering the silhouette.
jdcooke, what codec do you use?

couplathings,
in your movie settings, render every 2nd frame. This will cut your render times in half and still give very acceptable smoothness.
do not use any dynamic clothing, dynamic hair, raytracing, anti-aliasing or other render intensive settings.
use the lowest res versions of figures for medium and far shots. Only use higher res for closeups.
use either the preview or poser 4 renderers, not firefly.
turn off shadows on all but a single (key) light and turn off casts shadows on everything except the most visually relevant figure/prop. If possible, eliminate the ground entirely.
There are many other tricks to help minimize render times, but many are sequence specific, so impossible to explain every one - experiment.
Output sequentially numbered *.tif files and then assemble them into video sequences in a program like Avid, Final Cut, Premiere, etc.
Use the smallest size required for the final project. e.g., 640x480 or 320x240 for web-based animations, 720x480 for standard 4:3 NTSC video and 848x480 for 16:9 widescreen video.
jerr3d,
in actual fact, I believe the one-sided square would yield the minimum possible render time as it has 1 poly and 4 verts.
The box has:
box_1 384 polys 486 verts

you'll need to be systematic to solve something like this. go over all your "make movie" render settings and just render a few frames each time as you change things until you find the answer. It's far too complicated to dial you in when all you are telling us is that "it doesn't work." confirm that your movie settings are actually using the firefly renderer if that's what you want.
what codec are you using to render the avi file? start with the cinepak codec by radius, not any of the windows or indeo stuff.
try rendering sequential frames to see if they are ok. There should be no difference between rendering one frame and rendering 200. render out 5 frames as tiff or png then look at them to see if they have all the textures you expected. if so, your problem is elsewhere.
without some in depth research and feedback on your part there are too many variables.
