Thread: postwork abuse | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL

I would hope as postwork became more accessible to everyone the myth of the flawless beauty would at last wither away. But each time we have another "how can I achieve a realistic render in poser" thread and its another perfect woman, I have my doubts.
You mean like this render?

Hehehehe. Seriously though, I started a thread like this recently, and it had more to do with how to get more realistic shading and lighting than it did the beauty of the women in the examples.

Thank you for taking the time to do these experiments. The GI render looks so much better than any of the other examples, it's almost like comparing a picture to a painting. Hard to explain, but it makes the image look warmer and more alive or something. The IBL didn't show any detail at all on the smaller globes. So interesting.
Thread: OT somewhat: Poser --> Major 3D App, XSI earthquake! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I'm also one of those who was considering a higher end solution for my Poser stuff. I was looking at 3dsmax and Cinema 4D more than any others. Cinema for it's supposedly great Poser plugin, and 3dsmax simply because everything I see done with it over on CGTalk is astonishing. I don't know if it's the app itself, or just the people using it that are so good, but I'd say 90% of all the best organic and inorganic works over there that I looked at were done with 3dsmax for some reason. I never even considered XSI before because of it's price, and I was skeptical even about Cinema, only because of the lack of really great human renders I see from it. But this deal has my heart beating faster. This is more within my doing! I'm not doing animation, but just for the power it has over what I'm using now, it might be worth it.
I realize now Carrara is also much more reasonably priced and still loaded with power. I forgot about that one.

Monger isn't a negative term at least I’ve never heard it used as such.
To the contrary, I've never heard it used as a positive term. Never heard of a peace-monger, for example, but war-monger is quite common. LOL
Thread: OT: Bill Gates | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Gates was still the richest as recently as just the past Spring. But Carlos Slim's net worth surged since then, with the help of a 26 percent growth rate in his company, America Movil. This could all change by this time next year, and Gates could be back on top again. Although it's well known he doesn't want to be known as the world's richest man anyway.
As a side-note, Gates has put over $30 billion into the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, reducing his personal net worth. He'd still be the world richest by a HUGE margine (no one would even come close) if he didn't contribute that sum of money to the foundation.
Thread: Poser Hair vs. Painted hair..... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
"All I'm pointing out is that those that do take the days and days to create 90% of their picture aren't getting the credit they deserve versus those that go into poser and throw some things into a picture in a half hour." Huh? Since when? I look at the hot 20, and it's constantly the same postwork fanatics voting in the same artists time and time again. More than half of the images that usually appear there are postworked to death. I think it's just the opposite of what you say. Meanwhile, you have folks who work in other apps on this site, like Maya, Lightwave, 3dsmax, etc., that rarely get ANY comments, views, or votes compared to Poser submissions, and their work is usually ALL done from scratch, with little or no postwork, modeled from the ground up! By your judgement, THOSE folks should really be considered the true artists, because they do it all from scratch, while Poser users who paint over the render actually started with pre-made stuff to begin with. Where does this mode of thinking end?
Thread: Question for P6 users | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I stay away from raytraced shadows usually because if you're using them with lots of transparent materials like transmap hair or strand hair, they become slower than hell. Thats when shadowmaps are faster. Plus, raytraced soft shadows in Poser 6 are noisy if cast on a flat surface. It's hard to get a good clean soft raytraced shadow without very high render times, and then they still aren't as clean around the edges as shadow maps. They are more accurate though.
Thread: Sometimes I really feel like an amateur | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Ok I watched trailer 3, then I had to watch them ALL!! QUite honestly, I found myself sitting here trying to discern between what was live action footage, and what was done in 3D. Then i realised... it's ALL done in 3D!!! Those characters looked SO real in some parts that I honestly couldn't tell if I was looking at animation or a real person. Only the slightest irregularity in their motions gave them away. The interjected shots from the game play looked great too, but those parts were much more obvious. This is great stuff.

That warrior one is really great, but it looks a little "waxy" to me. Like a photo of a wax figure, but a photo nontheless. Personally, I love this one (see link). I think the skin looks perfect. Almost indistinguishable from real person.Thread: Art for sale in the digital world? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
The big money, if it can be called that, in the 3d digital world is mostly in animation. I know a guy who freelances his animation skills out to some studios and has been making over $100,000 a year. He also does 3d anime (animated japanese adult stuff) on the side for some adult websites, and has been making good money doing that too. I don't know where he gets the time, but his work is very good. That's my reason for wanting to learn how to animate. I got bills to pay! hehe.

Turbosquid's been around for at least as long as Rosity, so they must be doing something that works. As maxxmodelz suggests, the pricing on Turbosquid is not geared toward the hobbyist market like this site is. Juding from the products they sell there, most of the stuff is for high end applications. If someone is working for a studio and needs something fast for a project, he or she can go there, find what they need, and figure the cost they pay for the product into the client's bill. It's not a substancial loss for them so long as they get the job done one time. It's a different thing than most of us here that do it for fun or a few extra $$. Most of the people who probably buy things there probably don't even know Rosity exists.
