Thanks for the tips, they have given me some ideas to work with.  I can picture rigging the mesh like a tail could work.  Whilst reading your replies it occurred to me that I might be able to do a series of front ortho renders of the column.  Render, rotate, render, rotate etc, Then take the image sequence and stitch them into one image and use that image to generate, normal and displacement maps for a new mesh.    Thanks again for the help.

Full disclosure, above is an AI response.  Apologies to Alexzj if the words in his post above are his own but it doesn't read like a human response.  It is a sad day when human to human discussion in online forums gets replaced with AI to AI. 

With your blend file open if you go to:  File / External Data / Pack Resources then Blender will save your textures in the blend file.  It will increase the file size of the blend file but you can move the blend file from computer to  computer without the need of a separate folder with your textures.

After you have opened the blend file go to:  File / External Data / Find Missing Files

Navigate to the folder with the textures. 
Once the textures load correctly into your scene resave the file.

Appreciate the follow up Lux.  I was considering purchasing the addon and your review has convinced me to go and do it.

I also do not use Facebook and have no intention, ever, of joining.  I think it is a very poor decision to run contests that exclude those of us that don't buy into social media.   

If you don't want to duplicate the texture files then when exporting from Poser you can check "Use full texture paths"  in the Export Options dialogue box.  This will write the texture paths to the objs mtl file.   Another way is once the obj file has been imported into Blender go to File>External Data>Find Missing Files and then navigate your way to the textures folder in the Runtime folder of your Poser installation.

The main benefit of a site like this is not in converting files you have made. Why would you as you have the software that was used to create the model and if you needed to pass it on to someone else then you could do so in any number of export formats. This site is useful when you have a model that you have downloaded that is in a format that Blender can't import. There are a number of sites that offer free models for download but they are often in formats like .max or .c4d which Blender can't import. Using this site to convert those models poses no risk to you and results in the opportunity to use a model that you couldn't otherwise have used.
