You may want to check these out for a starting point. Matt has given permission to use these for non-commercial work & you might contact him for other ideas.Thread: Seeking a model | Forum: Carrara
Thread: saving a Big file. | Forum: Photoshop
Looks like you don't have enough real ram to work on that size file. You might try to "purge all" (history, undo etc) & that may free up some space in memory & try to save again from Photoshop. Note, it's not the file size that 's a problem, it's your ram. In Illustrator, try saving to version 5, that will delete any metadata that may be in the file (providing of course you don't need it). I.E., if you are working with mid/mif files all the names, zips, point data etc will be in the file.
Thread: Best 'Paint" Program? | Forum: Photoshop
MS was/is giving away a free full version of the Creature House Expression program version 3.3 for the Mac. Not sure what the url is. Painter is a better program for digital painting, Expression is primarilly vector-based art.
Thread: what's the main differences between photoshop CS and photoshop 7.0? | Forum: Photoshop
PhotoshopCS is version 8. In my opinion it is much better then version 7. I would argue that it's not an "essential" upgrade if you have version 7 but if you are to buy a new package then version 8 (CS) would be better. The Creative Suite wording is the way in which PS integrates with the other Adobe products. Primarily through a web based Java/Tomcat program called Version Cue. It allows for collaberative work on projects within work groups.

The Image Browser is much, much better in V8 and selected images from within there can have automated actions applied to them in a batch process. It can also be used to search for keywords etc much as an image database program would do. There are several good new tools, filters also. The Shadow/Highlight filter is a godsend for poorly lit photos as you can independently (and easily) adjust the shadow and/or highlight areas. Nice new Match Color filter to another image source. Handy new Replace Color brush. No mater, if you have the option to get either version then go for version 8(CS). The Creative Suite pertains mainly to the Version Cue Java, Tomcat software. That's interesting but I haven't used that too much as it is rather slow. There is no "phone home" registration on the Mac version (yet).

You could consider the "do-it-yourself" approach.Thread: Working in CMYK | Forum: Photoshop
Converting to CMYK color space doesn't do you any good unless you have a color calibrated monitor that is using the same ICC color profiles that the printer has set up for their work flow, screen frequencies and dot gain for the appropriate paper and printing press that will be used to reproduce the image. You are better off to let the printer do the conversion to CMYK and ask for a digital color Iris proof. Review the proof at the printers light box (or 5000K light source, I.E. sunlight) to make any comments regarding color corrections at that time. Ask for general prices for corrections BEFORE you submit your work for reproduction! Some printers have great printing prices but make up the difference with Customer Alterations. In general, you will want to increase the levels and sharpen the image a bit. The problematic RGB to CMYK colors are mostly greens & oranges.
Thread: Modeling in Carrara. | Forum: Carrara
I tried Wings for about 10 minutes & trashed it. I figured "what's the point?. Already have & know how to use Carrara (somewhat at least). I had been useing Ray Dream since version 3 & when Carrara came out I bought it, installed it & used if for 10 minutes & thought what's the point? I already know how to do this faster in RDS. It took a couple months for me to make the transition. I had to "stick with it" for a couple real projects to become cofortable with it & I'm glad I did. Just look through the gallery to see if anyone uses it to model.

Cool model, one of these days I might venture into the Vertex modeler again. The Wizard was a practical scientist who proved scientific theories with real-world experiments that any kid could understand. Kind of what scientists are supposed to do (posit a theory & prove it). Sagan used slick multimedia to try & persuade people to agree with him, not necessarily with the facts. I've often thought that many of his shows should begin with a footnote, "based on theory & conjecture". None the less, Sagan was very influential with the public at large.
Thread: rgb and cymk | Forum: Photoshop
All depends on how you need to print this and if it runs by itself or is printed in conjunction with other CMYK images on a printing form. If it runs by itself you could replace the Cyan channel with a Pantone blue that has a little PMS Green as part of its base color (perhaps PMS 312 or somewhere around there). It would modify the color tones within the silver star somewhat (but not dramatically) and would get you closer to the blue background you need. The other option is to add another channel to print a 5th color (PMS your blue of choice) as the background. This would add another printing plate & wash-up to your printing but wouldn't effect any other CMYK images on the printing form and wouldn't effect the silver star either. Extra cost to do this shouldn't cost more then around $150.00 - $200.00 (depending on quantity). As noted by Hoofdcommissaris, CMYK color space is much more narrow then RGB. If you plan to print in CMYK you should almost always begin with CMYK, especially if you need to run your designs by a client.

Superb illustration. Is there a link somewhere with a larger image? I'd buy the paper but I'm about 1,800 too far!

Double the size & resolution you need then use the blur filter to minimize the dot pattern. Then reduce to final size & use the unsharp mask to sharpen it.
Thread: How much is Adobe Photoshop 7 ? | Forum: Photoshop
If you can find a good deal for version 7 go for it. However, the CS version has some really nice new features in the save as PDF options, shadow/highlight filters and healing brushes as well as the browser & export to html options. Nice thing about the Mac version is that you don't have to "phone home" to activate.
