As far as I know you can export terrains but thats it. Try some of the free modellers at the top of this forum. I highly recommend Wings 3d.

marcey, not easily the bryce primatives won't export. You can get truespace 3, wings, metasequoia, and a few other 3d apps for free for the purpose. However You could concievably import mesh versions of the primatives into bryce from say carrara,or some other 3d modeling app, but theres a lot of overhead memorywise importing, using in bryce, and exporting a mesh version. I Think I did it once as an experiment based on a Question asked in bryce forum. You might check there: search under the keyword "Jessica". - TJ

Bryce is a bad choice for modelling anyway, don't get me wrong, Bryce is a great app at an amazing price and people do make superb models with it but it was never designed for modelling anything more than very simple objects. Go with a dedicated modeller, I too would highly recommend Wings! - Baz

macrey not marcey sorry. my typing is worse than my spelling. There is one reason I'd recommend truespace 3 over wings at least at first if you're coming from Bryce. The operation of the program will be more familiar to you once you get past the more complicated interface. For me anyway truespace 3 was easier to learn. Other than that wings is an exellent program(but then I've got the TS2 manual). I'd recommend learning them both. - TJ

Bryce is ridiculously powerful for some forms of modeling. For architecture and organics, it's wonderful. You should be bringing your Poser models into Bryce, as it's renderer is still more powerful than the FireFly renderer. I have Truespace 5 Reality Designer. I've never used it. (shrugs)

Bryce's terrains and lattices are quite powerful...within Bryce. Because of how the program handles them you can get some remarkable detail within a fairly small file. They are not, however, optimal for export. I actually made a smart-propped set of angel wings in Bryce once -- Bryce to Carrara to UVmapper to Poser -- it worked fine for the pic I was doing (a garden angel) but the file was a little large.

Aye, nomuse, I understand Bryce's limitations. But for terrain-making, it is hands down the most powerful of all the enviro-renderers. I have used ridiculous Bryce terrains in Lightwave and RDS, and they work flawlessly. Internally, Bryce is a great architectural modeler, you just have to know how to use it, like any program! Peep through my gallery and youll understand what I mean... (and feel free to slander me at any time, sometimes text makes me seem to serious!)

nomuse, For the record shadowdragonlord is one of our more competant Brycers and has taught me a trick or two when I was first getting serious about Bryce. Although there are ways around the limitation by importing mesh primatives as I've said previously, no one disputes the limitation in exporting. If your final result is a render Bryce is one of the better ways to go; if not, a traditional modeller is a better choice. Gmax from descreet is omne such option and with the proper gmax scripts it will even import and export wavefront objs. Right now microsoft is supposed to be working on a fix for an update to that recent worm patch which boogered up gmax so right now might not be the right time to start up with it, but I'd keep it in mind as a modeller as well. - TJ
