Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 20 7:34 am)
Unlike saving a pose from within Poser, MPE saves pose data for the BODY actor, this may be the problem. Apply the pose then check the figure for translations of the BODY or base (usually "hip") actor.
If you find any translations you can open the pz2 in MPE and zero those translation channels or delete them (which ever seems most appropriate to your intent).
Note that zeroing a figure in the Joint editor only zeros the rotations, not the translations.

You can try the WIP version of MPE (attached URL, replace the existing MAT Pose Edit.exe with the file in the zip) and see if the error 9 disappears. Many of the bugs of v3.1.3b3 are fixed in this version. Also, exactly what kind of a pose file are you after? Is it supposed to affect the materials, or morph and pose channels, or perhaps both? Then I was able to load and save the pose file ok. I still have to look into the translation thingy since the figure "jumps around too much" :o)
edit: Using the WIP version.

Well, those 3 tutorials that couldn't be found aren't that useful anymore because they are for an earlier version of MPE.
Thanks for the screenshots, they will probably help me fix the bug. Would be nice if I could get a little larger image of the material settings so that I could reproduce the problem.
And yes, you need to delete the Translate channels. Usually it's best to delete everything you don't need.

The steps I've done creating the pose file in MPE:
Morph and Pose channels
File/Import data
Enabled and set Actors properties
There is no Save option for this so one must close the MPE to get the 'Want to save' dialog.
Save the file.
I've tried using the File/Open/Character file (also tried the 'Multi char./Char with props) but get an error 9!? The only thing that works is the 'Import data' option.
And I've tried 'zeroed' characters too, but no difference.
