I like it. You don't have to click on all those little bitty triangles to find things -- its all right in front of you.

ibassplayer205 ( ) posted Sat, 29 January 2005 at 11:52 AM

I think that looks pretty cool. A LITTLE cluttered but like Bec said, everything is right in front of you, you dont need to go hunting for things.

Funny thing is, I clicked on your link to the Daz forums and when I came back here, I tried changing some of the options posted above. All in all, I would prefer this layout to the current Bryce mat. layout.

draculaz ( ) posted Sat, 29 January 2005 at 11:54 AM

yeah, i like it too. much less clutter :)

I'm sorry you think my answer was 'cold' but these wishlists have been brought up time and time again and the threads just disappear into oblivion among all the other threads. Posting it in the Wishlist thread would ensure it wouldn't get lost and getting comments from users is good (not that they will help though), but it won't be seen by DAZ if it's not in the Wishlist thread since they don't monitor the forums as a whole. It's easier for DAZ to monitor one thread than for me to monitor 500 threads and keep sending them to DAZ. -darlisa

Very clean and professional in appearance but I would miss the slider adjustments for diffusion, etc.

Well, the idea is far from bad. But: I don't like the colour of the interface. That ochre is a bit ... I don't know ... off-putting. Then, it would be nice to have an ability to use the old style interface. I see no way to turn off parts of material editor here, either - maybe I want to increase the size of the preview and don't want to have mapping modes on screen. And as adh3d said, where are the new features? Displacement, glow, luminance, environment... Also, it's okay to use increments in font sizes, but not in elements of a texture. Why 100 and 75 for diffusion, but not 83? See what I mean?

tjohn ( ) posted Sat, 29 January 2005 at 3:49 PM

As far as colors, as long as we are redesigning, it should be a simple matter to have editable preferences, so you could use the color picker to choose any colors you want for background, text, etc. for the interface.

I kinda like the original interface we have now in Bryce 5 :) maybe a scalable preview window would be a nice addition and such, but I love the little triangle way of navigating.. it keeps the screen fresh and clean

I like it better than the original. I think this saves you a couple of clicks here and there, plus utilizes the whole screen (i think). As it is, I think the color is pretty relaxing but I hope it will be customizable.

A choosable color palette for the interface would be nice, and the ability to move things around to personal preference also....so many new softwares have that little extra included..

It's a very interesting design, but the first thing that struck me was that it seemed to be a cross between Poser and Lightwave......0.02p

No matter what they do to Bryce it will still be a hard learning curve for me. One day i'll get past using spheres :) Have fun all, i'm going back to making a spherescape

I have opinions of my own -- strong opinions -- but I don't always agree with them.

Zhann.. I think Bryce lets you change the UI around..This was a feature that was in 5.01 I think...Maybe it was 4...Anyways I might be wrong but you could change the Pallettes all around...

adh3d ( ) posted Sun, 30 January 2005 at 5:36 AM

Anyway, I think the color change from bryce 4 to 5 was a mistake, I like the "colors" of bryce 4 much more than v5.

jo3l ( ) posted Sun, 30 January 2005 at 5:52 AM

hello And as adh3d said, where are the new features? Displacement, glow, luminance, environment... It's only a layout. There are new features. My project no made a simulation in flash to see how it works. But i don't have time...It started also the main interface but it's a long work, and i've a full time job, family, etc... So i decided to put what i done as quite complete. For exemple you can edit direct template texture, so you see how you can place the texture on it and change it better. Some other features: A plant lab. The tree lab is a great tool to create life form. For a tree i wish to define the position of the crown and how many branch growes up from the crown. animation possibilities from leaves, branch when they are young. Animation of growing up trees. Creation of plants and animation. creation of tree mushrooms, etc The possibility of create a texture template of a tree to create a own texture for the tree. Animation tool optimizied. For exemple i want to change the focus of the camera from a objet to an other object. The DOF could be also animated. So i don't have to render two animation and after compose it in final cut. Please let import people with animation. Would be great. Is it possible to define more precisely the center of an object to animate it better ( a stupid exemple: a door. when the center is not exact it's look not real). Is it possible to animated an object as pendule, and it will do the same for the rest of the animation without to animated all the the time. Get the same for repeated animation. ( exemple: an old clock on the wall. The pendule have to be animated the whole animation. one time and after he will do it continually would be great.) An organic modeller. A lab where you can create and model some organic object. For exemple an old trunk with a hole or breaked branch and integrate it with the plant lab for a new life form. Stone with growing up tree on it. the modeller could be compatible with terrain lab and plant lab. texture template will be great. Also, it's okay to use increments in font sizes, but not in elements of a texture. Why 100 and 75 for diffusion, but not 83? See what I mean? You can put 70.235 if you want. It's just basis number that predefine. You don't have a slider anymore. So i try 50, after 75 and i see it muss be in the middle, so i can write manually the number, like in PSD for exemple

Dann-O ( ) posted Sun, 30 January 2005 at 5:54 AM

I woudl like more than ABCD in the texture area. I find I occasionally run out before I get done with a texture havign to get rid of a channel. I amke specularity and diffusion maps bump and reflectivity and a diffuse map. Possibly some refraction mapping as well. Maybe a way to adjust base level in a diffusion or specular map.

For the interface i know that can't looks great for everybody. For people would looks old or retro, to wild, etc, If i do it like psd on mac, white and translucid it looks maybe to clean. I think you have the ground color BAsis, and after you colorise the own interface. for exemple you define: basic color white, tool blue, fonts, grey. So with 5 colors you get your personal interface. Editable in preference. thanks all of you for comments.. Amicalement jo3l Ps: I will maybe use the interface to do some tutorials..Will see

kiwi_gg ( ) posted Sun, 30 January 2005 at 11:16 AM

I am still exploring the program and don,t really wish to have to learn a new UI at this stage of the process as well. Happy to retain the current one, would really love to be able to click on the preview window and have it expand to at least half of full screen. I also think that anyone designing UI's should have a mandate to consider people with failing or poor eyesight. Cheers 8) GG.

lordstormdragon ( ) posted Sun, 30 January 2005 at 5:29 PM

I think that it is a nice design, but I've seen better. Bryceformac seems to be down, but that guy went NUTS developing a new UI/GUI. It was amazing... The thing about wishlists, and I understand Jelisa's plight, is that rarely does anybody just make wishes. Do you ahve any idea how to actually program that kind of stuff? I mean it as no insult, but what you are asking for is a way to be even MORE lazy about Bryceing. If you want those features, learn to program them, and THEN bring it up to DAZ. I'll bet they either go for it, or let you take your programs to other people. Hell, the plant and tree plug-ins alone for Lightwave and Maya cost more than Bryce does. Perhaps that's where you'd feel more comfortable?

Dann-O ( ) posted Sun, 30 January 2005 at 9:14 PM

There is competition and if Bryce does not come up with a significantly improved version then everyone will switch to Vue. It is already happening because Bryce was languishing for so long without updates that gave Vue a chance to become the primary tool in this area. I still perfer bryce becaause of the better aliasing but that is a small thing. Focus should be on lanscape realted things. Not ways to model in Bryce, get a modeler. Also improvements to import and export and more control over individual parts of the scene. This is the areas where the primarey competition doing better.

No, I think that's an over-generalization. I will never switch to Vue, and to say, "Everyone", means that you either KNOW everyone, or that you can speak for everyone.

Neither are the case, Dann-O. Vue is, to me, a cheap imitation of Bryce based off of what Bryce started out as. Also, considering I just started using Maya, I have no reason to use Vue for animation. It's a toy in comparison.

I'm not certain you could come up with a better way to textually insult the Bryce community here, but if I think of one, Dann-O, I'll let you know. Also, when it comes to landspacing, nothing even remotely touches Mojoworld. Again, Vue and Bryce are toys in comparison. But I happen to really enjoy my Bryce 5 toy...!

Ohhhhh... Dont tell DAZ that Bryce is a toy my friend...You might just Piss them off enough to start working towards putting Bryce were it should be anyways...Kickin the higher end Softwares butt..But I think we wont "Start" to see the things we want until version 6...The reason why I say start is because AS YOU well know every little change Always has an effect on something,Where there is an action there is a reaction... Maya is awesome tho on a side note...I do use MayaPLE and yes I can do almost everything but render without the waterMark...But hey at least I am learning...

"Dont tell DAZ that Bryce is a toy my friend...You might just Piss them off enough to start working towards putting Bryce were it should be anyways...Kickin the higher end Softwares butt.." Exactly that is what I would like. I have used Bryce since 1.0. I like the renderer in Bryce but lack of interest by the parties that own Bryce has left it with updates that do little to enhance the product. In general I use Bryce in conjunction with a number of modelers photoshop and Painter.go to PlanIt 3D everyone there has switched. I have not due to financial constraints and I think the aliasing on the Vue renders I have seen is bad. The problem now is that there has been 3 years without a update or additional features. There is a huge installed user base but they are leaving them outto dry and they will find other programs and will loose intrest in Bryce. the fact that there is still a lot of users 3 years after the last version is a tribute to how good the software is. Will they finally update Bryce when Mojoworld or Terragen have full import export capabilities?

I saw in 1997 in Paris Paul Swendsen. He was working with the futur old version of bryce3. He was doing clouds animation for a film. I was using te version 2 and he was on a beta version. Was great for me to see him and read about Bryce and 3d. So bryce was used by pro. Since Corel bryce is no more a pro software. I hope that will change with DAZ. Amicalement 3

jelisa ( ) posted Mon, 31 January 2005 at 10:19 AM

DAZ isn't leaving the users out to dry. They are working very hard on 5.5. Corel tried with v5 to add capabilities to Bryce and had begun on v6. They had quite a bit done before their resources dried up. Despite what they ended up doing to Bryce, I believe they had good intentions whether they initially wanted the program or not. I just don't think they understood the scope of the problem or the loyalty/fanatiscm of the user base. Just give DAZ a chance folks, please.

We're trying to be patient, but try to understand...we've been waiting sooooo long. Some of us have been around since Bryce started and enjoyed the progress to 2, 3, 4, 5. Then nothing for much too long. Heartbreaking. But I'm willing to wait a very long time to get a more competitive Bryce. :^)

I've posted some of those when, when, when, threads over at DAZ but in reality I don't mind how long it takes them to get the final product right for release. As tjohn said we've been waiting soooooooo long, but I don't think it's too difficult to wait a little longer for a true next step for Bryce. My main concern is the lack of info about where they are at in the develpement and any kind of hint as to when all their tweeking will be done. Catlin

Rayraz ( ) posted Sat, 05 February 2005 at 7:14 AM

The only problem is, the longer they wait, the bigger the step forwards needs to be to satisfy our needs..
