I have noticed that in the current Vanishingpoint sale there a quite a few items marked as 'Enter Your Own Price'.

I know this feature has been available for some time but was wondering if anybody has actually used it. It would be interesting to know whether peeps have ever entered a higher price than that recommended.

Just my curiosity getting the better of me.

Well, I must just add here that some people have actually entered some decent prices. I think it is a compliment to a merchant when someone actually pays more than they can get away with, just because they think the model is worth it. A testiment to human nature that some people will pay a fair price, and others will just pay the minimum.

From a sellers [a personal one] prospective I don't recall anyone offering more than the reccomended.

Some folks pay the full price, though most folks offer 50%-75% of the RRP. Which I don't mind as I belive getting $1 is better than getting zero dollars, and this approach allows customers greater choice - kinda like a customer led sale. Plus customers can use that saving and buy more than 1 thing.

BTW - Disclosure here I was an advcate for this pricing model. Which I know some sellers are - regardless of site - are not keen on. Some belive that low pricing devalues the work we put into our creations. While I agree there is a 'cost' to making something, even just time, I think the benefits of this easily outweigh the negatives.

Especailly on the artistic and exposure level, it gets your work 'out here' , rather than 'sittng on the shelf' this approach allows stuff to be seen, its being used and most importantly it's being enjoyed by other artists.

 Interesting that some customers have paid over the listed price, I would have thought it the other way round.

MrSparky - I can understand that it gets your name out there but I kind of think of it as why buy a car for 20K when you can get it for 10K. Do not the free model sections of different sites serve that purpose?

• They can do - though I think you need to do a range of things to get your work noticed.  
  Like giveaways, contests, forums etc etc. 

Personally I do slide more towards cheaper pricing for poser models because I'm like most poser users - not that rich and I think prices should reflect that.

My take is you could make the greatest 3d model in the world but if you price it to high it's gonna sit there. Especially if thats in a niche area of the poserverse. 

had something like that happen to me a couple decades back. some cultists tried to sell me the 'Bhagavad Gita for 'whatever I could spare'...when I said 5 bucks, they countered that 25 was as low as they could go.....profits for prophets...;)

 It would depend for me on my finances at the time.
I did buy a name your own price thing from VP in the past - I think it was the Nuke, but now I can't remember what I paid.
The sale is pretty good at the moment.

I so far I have always paid minimum at VP with this 'Enter Your Own Price' option but then I would not have purchased at all without it given my present circumstances.

In practical terms it has served as a 'loss leader' as it keeps me returning to the store when I otherwise probably would not have given that my renders usually are on different lines then those of the products carried there. I do make an occasional "big ticket" full price purchase at VP as a consequence.

That said, I would probably pay recommended or higher if my situation was different. In better times I often made donations to freebie providers who provided that option... sometimes a donation ten times the recommended amount. I have also bought gifts or gift certificates for freebie authors when I have been able.

Here at RMP I often make purchases from vendors like reika and kobomax who stick to the $5.00-$7.50 price range simply to encourage them to continue selling at the price mark. For someone like me a $5.00 purchase is a real pick me up and a $12.00 purchase is a real commitment... over $14.00 purchase price and you just are not going to make a sale with me. Sorry, I think that Poser content should be priced for volume sales no matter what the quality.

I must say the the VP 'Enter Your Own Price' keeps me returning to that store when I probably would not otherwise. I am grateful for the option and think it is a very sensible pricing/marketing strategy and much preferable to Platinum Club and the like. It certainly garners my good will as a consumer and if I come into any money VP can be sure I will make some compensating purchases out of gratitude for the generosity extended.

BTW I would love to see more for Vincent Parker, characters and everyday clothing... esp. at a price I could afford :) My old jalopy of a machine really gets along with that superb low poly figure. He is like the figure Dork should have been! There is nothing wrong with the resolution of the Poser 4 figures. It is just that the modeling and rigging could have benefited from more work. I often wish that Poser had continued down the path it was on before DAZ got involved... I feel I was actually more productive working with those old "Model T" figures that everyone modified and hacked so inventively. The G4 figure just break when you try to mess with them under the hood and high poly mesh doesn't even morph as well as low poly mesh once you go past a certain density. Sorry to go OT but I think Vincent Parker is an excellent example of how good sculpting and rigging make a low resolution mesh a real winner and I wish he had picked up more momentum as a figure!

• It's not an area as such - some sellers have set their models to be sold where the customer can choose the price. On the product page theres a box - you just enter the price you want to pay that. Not every product has this nor does every vendor use it.

• Don't apologise. I agree with you - poser for most users is a hobby and I think prices should reflect that. 

I've paid $30+ for a single item and found the item was so poly heavy and the maps too big as to be unuseable. Throw in poor support from the vendor and after that you don't come back.

Even around $15-20 I start asking myself do I really need it that much.

*Oh yes. Having 'proof' like the sales email/paypal receipt you makes it even quicker.
Just email the store from the link on the website.

If you can't find proof, one way way is to logon to your paypal account and find the order details using Paypal's history function. For example sorting it by payments made over a year date range.  

All the folks involved with VP are pretty reasonable, and can usually solve problems like this without major hassle.
