Heh.
Now, I on the other hand, see distinct banding in the rendered shadows if I use anything at 256 or less, so I crank it UP as high as my machine will take.
Sorry, AS, I will have to agree to disagree on this point.
On the other hand, for me, the Intensity settings go WAY down.... sometimes as far as .5, depending on the IBL image used.
Really? That's interesting. I'll have to try both those methods out, but after this render for my film finishes, which will probably take another day.
adh3d,
I don't think this Beta is on anything but instancing and a bit on IBL, but from what has been said over at Daz, it sounds like there could be more Betas to come with different new things. But that's just my impression, so don't quote me on that. But I agree that better animation for water would be excellent, both oceans and rivers - spray & waterfalls etc.
......
Sorry, I was dreaming there for a moment.

You seem to be really hyped up about this FoleyPro - does this mean it'll get even better as more Betas come along?

BTW... I textured my Sub obj saved it and imported again... Came in all textured.. I'm really thrilled about this function....
When it came back into Bryce, were the textures the same? I ask 'cos I tried this and on returning to Bryce with it, it looked so different it looked terrible. This is my own model created in Wings3d saved as a Bryce preset, then I lost everything but the Bryce preset so I've been trying to rescue it for many years now.
That being so I'm thrilled to be able to export it at all - I didn't think the textures were supposed to stay the same, but if they are, then for me they didn't.
Also the size of the model changed on re-importing.
Tom, did yours stay the same size?

Well, it ´s seems like you really know something, so now I ask. What will happen when the serial number to the Beta runs out january 25. ? Will there be another beta or just...nothing...back to Bryce 6 or what will happen ?!?
Yes-yes-yes I´m already in love with Bryce 7 and I don´t want to loose it again :-)
I wouldn't be able to say either way on that. Stuff like that you will have to rely on DAZ to announce. ;o(

Just wanted to pay homage to those first images we all did, back when Bryce was all shiny and new.
Rosemaryr,
I liked it, I also like the milky look to the spheriod-ish shapes, what did you use to texture them?

Basic 'Brushed Silver' from the metals pre-sets, but the sky is mostly responsible for the silky-ness. Used one of the new DLD skies that came with the beta, and also used it in the 'Sky-as-HDRI' option.
(ckecking..... ) Second row, fifth sky..."Daylight". But I think I changed the sun from a purple color to a grey of the same value.

Its a Known issue thats being worked on..
Great I'm glad to hear that :)
Thanks Rosemaryr, I'll have to try that.
You know the only problem with this Beta testing is that these nice new skies and DLD and IBL and use sky as IBL stuff that we can do now take such a long time to render that testing them out isn't a slam-bam-thank-you-mam deal but more of an "are we there yet?" whine creating thing.
Especially as I have C4D running at the same time rendering for my 3rd year film for Uni...
We-ell... I couldn't resist using the power of my dual core PC just to see if I could do both C4D and Bryce7 at once.
Er... does 1:21:04:46 mean this render will be completed in 1 day 21 hours, 4 minutes and 46 seconds from now?
Because if so, I've got quite a wait.

Fran.. I used the automotive colors under Metal preset... The obj file came back a bit smaller and with the same colors... These colors were basic and I would not count on complicated textures to be preserved in the obj+mtl files.... Br6 could not import and export like this.....
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I think the "DLD Skies" is just named for the guy(s?) who provided them.... but they have several nice ones that I like.... wintery, cool, overcast.
(And I think you have interpreted the time right... but I always interrupt my renders so much to tweak, that those numbers become meaningless no matter what they are.)
Tom,
Yeah I know B6 couldn't export like this, that's why I'm so chuffed about it.
Thanks for the info on this, I reported the size difference as a bug, - but I also found faceting on the export where the original was smooth, so that went in too.
I was less bothered by the obvious changes in the materials as that's a more common fault with most exporting, but I thought I'd ask you about it just in case Bryce could suddenly out do other exporters.
But you say you used metals and they come back in okay? That's unusual. I'll have to investigate this.
Rosemaryr,
Yes I like the DLD Skies, and I love the Use Sky as IBL, that's an excellent feature.
I got so bored waiting, that I've cancelled that render until I can free up both cores and do it in High priority.
I wanna play!

Well one thing I have discovered is that I am better at crashing 7 than I have ever been with all the previous versions. And I can't even blame my computer for the running out of memory messages and the missing object etc. stuff. Hell, it doesn't even come up with a crash message half the time anymore. And thats without using ibl or any of the other things I was playing with yesterday :)
beelzebulb,
Have you submitted bug reports for those crashes?

Right. Well... I got bored with waiting, so I stoped that one and started another - hopefully less intensive, must be cos it's already onto antialiasing. 52% antialiasing in fact! Looking hopeful.

Yup, told them a couple times at least. Think it may be a conflict when I add a certain model to the scene although the models all work well on thier own. 6 of one half a dozen of the other kind of problem I guess. I pm'd and offered them the scene (340 megs) if they want it along with the model that manages to crash it every time on a save.
Speaking of metaballs, one of the new 7.0 additions is adding the positive/negative status to the MBs object attributes dialog. This makes so much more sense then the shift-click that previous versions had for negative MBs. You can also change the status from one to the other and what's best for me you can tell which is which.
Edit: at least this is true on the Mac...

----------------------->(runs off to check) Yup! Works for me on a PC. And the negative meatball looks like other negative primatives... wireframe is dashed lines.
Cool. Useful!

Oh really? Sounds interesting, I too must do a Rosemaryr and dash off and take a butcher's at it.
Mind you Metaballs would be so much easier to work with if only their bounding box was the same size as the metaball itself, when you try resizing one you never know where it'll move off to, and that bounding box is I'm sure what's stopping metaballs from aligning to any surface properly.

Am trying B7 beta as well, still have 4 5 and 6 so it has been fun comparing them. 7 seems to work well and brings all other meshes I made with the other version in without problems. Posted a couple of images from 3DG meshed I made 10 yrs ago with B4 and edited now with B7 beta. Also I still have the original bmark V2 bench marking mesh which just I had to try. B4 had a rendering time of 51sec (On this pc which is 2.83Quad overclocked ATI 4800). B7 does it in 01:46 and B6 does it in 01:48. Only difference I could see between the versions was Rays missed in the rendering report and the difference was big, not sure if anyone else is interested in that so I will not bore everyone. The only other difference I can see so far is that it does not crash when I have other programs open and I am one that likes to have everything bar the kitchen sink open. CS is a must plus B6 and B4 maybe 3ds and god only knows how many E windows open, then 9 times out of 10 B6 would crash sometimes taking all the others with it. So far B7 has not done this or should I say it seems to Plays Well with Others. Table works will and was thinking of playing around and seeing if KPT works with it. (Really I am just not the big egg head I like to think so, I will no doubt only think about trying KPT but if anyone else does, would love to know the out come.)
I know a couple of us, without even saying anything to each other, broke out our old KPT plugins, lol. Must be the ghost of Kai & MetaCreations moving us all.
So far, so good on my side, but for whatever reason I am having hardly any crashes anyway.

Ah, yes. I've got a whole load of T-shirts for that.
I do that too much – have lots of progs open at once I mean. I'll start with the best of intentions, opening Bryce up, then I'll want a texture, need to either fiddle with one (rotating it) or re-design one or just plain make from scratch, so PhotoShop... then I'll need to look something up, so up comes Firefox – with about 20 tabs still there from last time, then I'll feel guilty and open up C4D, and set a render going for the film, then I might need a screen cap, photoshop you think? But no 'cos that's easier in PaintShop, so that opens...
So what with Explorer open to find things and this n that, pretty soon there are 7 or 8 progs whirring away, and still Bryce 7's only really crashed when in the instancing lab and clicking on planes by mistake.
However I've recently noticed that the saved views are sometimes screwed up – anyone else have that?
I wish I still had KPT....

Bobbystahr,
It proably depends on how many in population 1 and how many you are trying to add in population 2.
I added what looked like a fairly small number (In the Instances Lab viewport) of Jeremy's Alien Bug to a scene with my egg in it, (Image somewhere in this thread) which already had a metaball population and a little boxes population on it, and it was taking forever to access any of the menues.
I then tried again, from the state with metaballs and boxes, and reduced the number of bugs again, and still there were so many of them that it took about a minute to 30 seconds to access any menu, I then deleted a few of the bugs, probably about 1/4 of 'em, and reduced the reaction time to 20 seconds... but it was still a pain to work with.
Cacti? I guess it depends on how many polys they produce, the simpler the model the more you could get in the scene.
I don't think there's a trick to it (other than reducing the numbers) but this is just a beta and I think it was AS who said that these 'instances' are not true instances, but just copies, and therefore have all their polygons, true instances will be in the final, i.e. not beta version of B7 - or that's what I understood.

Yup, that be the truth. ;o)
This is VERY beta and very prone to crashing.
The Instance Lab just copies right now, no True Instancing, where we will get the great magical break in much less actual polys.
