When I load this .obj into Poser 8 I get this result, but when I import into Poser 7 there is no problem. Any one have an idea what is causing this?

Poser 8 as well as Poser Pro are much less forgiving of errors than Poser 7 or earlier were. OBJ's that won't import into Poser 8 or Pro 2010 will import just fine in Poser 4,5,6 & 7.

Well That ain't right. lol

If I save in Poser 7 as a Poser scene then open it in Poser 8 it works as it should.

Have you tried re-exporting it as an Obj from Poser 7, then importing it into P8?

This only made me hungry.

It should work fine in Poser 8 after you import into Poser 7 and save as a PP2 file.

1; Your lights from P7 and P8 are not the same.
2; You have a problem with the normals of the obj file.

  1. Smooth polygons, (last pic) is ON and at a different setting as before.

Check obj in external proggie. Wings or blender or anim8or or.....
Check normals

Check light set betwee 7 and 8

Check Smooth polygons on all obj parts and in Posers general preferences.

seems to be comparing a depth map render in poser 8 with a preview img in poser 7.

Cage ( ) posted Wed, 09 March 2011 at 9:53 PM

It looks like you have a number of backwards-facing polygons.  If you set "Normals Forward" in the Materials Room, that might help it render better.  Are you importing with "Make polygon normals consistent" checked?  Possibly that might improve something.  😕

I know UV Mapper Pro has some tools to help correct backwards polygons.  I seem to recall that Wings 3D might correct backwards polys on import.  If that's the case, importing and exporting with Wings might fix it.

Cage can be an opinionated jerk who posts without thinking.  He apologizes for this.  He's honestly not trying to be a turkeyhead.

Cage had some freebies, compatible with Poser 11 and below.  His Python scripts were saved at archive.org, along with the rest of the Morphography site, where they were hosted.

If you want the original obj looked at I would be happy to have a look

send it to marks542004@yahoo.com

Try importing WITHOUT checking the standardise normals (or whatever its called) on import options .

kawecki ( ) posted Thu, 10 March 2011 at 12:41 AM

Load the obj file into the latest version of PropViewer, click on remove duplicated faces and fix normals and then export it again as obj file (with a new name).

PropViewer fixes all what is wrong with obj file's geometry.

Stupidity also evolves!

I loaded the models sent to me in Lightwave and the glass looked fine , except for a hole  and the 'sauce' was ok but for some non-planar n-gons.

I emailed a reply with some suggestions for those .

It all imported into Poser 7 sr2 with no problems, just using center and floor options.

The pic is what I get as a render with a simple color texture applied to the glass

I examined the obj files in wordpad for any issues with continuation lines and there are none.

Sorry, but I dont see a problem with the models. There may be a bug in obj import :(

a modelling point , if using a curve to 'lathe' a shape one vertex of the curve needs to be at the axis to close the shape. If its not you get a hole.If you start and end the curve at the axis you can create both inner and outer shapes and have a thickness to the sides.
