Subject: Vue 6Infinite.eon Has Stopped Working.

thundering1 ( ) posted Sun, 10 July 2011 at 10:04 AM · edited Wed, 08 January 2025 at 8:54 PM

I know, I know - 6Infinite?!?! Upgrade, boy!! Upgrade!!

In short time, hopefully, but that's not the point of this thread.

And just for the sake of informational gathering, this is the EXACT same thing that happens with my copy of Maya.

BOTH are 64bit, and in THEORY I'm running Win7 Pro 64bit (on a Dell StudioXPS) and I can't play with either of them.

And I'm now going through Vue withdrawal... I need to play. I WANT to play. I can't play here at home and it's p!$$!ng me off!

Has anyone here encountered such a problem with a 64bit piece of software that give you this error on Win7 64bit computers, and is there a solution anyone has found?

Thanks in advance for anything anyone can come up with-

-Lew

Dunno about your version of Maya, but Vue 6 was meant to run on XP, so maybe this is the problem, did you try running it in compatibility mode? (right click on the exe, and choose XP), might work? Is anyone else running Vue6 fine on Win7? Is anyone else still using Vue6? lol!

"Is anyone else still using Vue6? lol!"

Shot in the dark here, but... No... ;-)

Just realized that I turned off my updates back in January because they were messing with overnight renders - system reboots in the middle of a render. Gotta start all over and hope it doesn't do it again TOMORROW night kinda thing.

There's 64...

I'm currentlyinstalling ALL of them, and I'll also give the "choose XP" note a try - thanks Bruno021!

Okay, I just figured out that both Vue6I, and Maya64bit are located/installed in Program Files - and not in the Program (x86) folder.

Since Maya was a free copy from a contest, re-installing it would be either a nightmare or impossible.

I CAN re-install Vue if need be - I've got it downloaded and all I"ll have to do is have them re-activate it.

BUT - any idea how I can simply transfer it without "re-installs"? Before IK mux anything up, how bad IS it to simply copy the folders over to the (x86) folder?

Or would it not do anything - just sit there dead as it currently is?

They have to be installed in Program files. x86 is for 32bit apps.

Hmmmmmm...

THAT leaves me back to square one...

Thank, man-

I'm using Vue 6 in Win 7 64 bit with no problems at all. Just for the sake of information.

OK, copying Vue 6 files over to another directory and then expecting it to work, will NOT work. Vue 6, if you have the download installation files, should work well enough. I would re-install it. Basically, you need to get the correct program locations established in your Windows Registry.

It does sound as if you have some messed up Registry settings for both Maya and Vue. Have you perhaps run some kind of program intended to clean up Windows, such as Norton Utilities/Systemworks or Iolo System Mechaninc? Both of these have messed up my Windows 7 installations in the past. (And I had to delete the programs and then re-install in order to get a fix that worked correctly.)

Before you re-install, this probably is dumb, but are you right-clicking on the program executable, and running it as "Adminstrator?"

I also have mine installed in Win 7 64 bit Ultimate, no problems here, but my program is installed on the local hard drive not in program files.  Works fast too.  Also, I have Vue 4Pro and 5I in the program files, with full admin rights again, no issues.

64 bit has a 32 bit section so I don't see why there would be any issues quite frankly if they all were installed in the 32 bit area.  Your pc should react fine.

The messed up registry is sounding like the culprit - says the photographer with NO experience in programming.

I can re-install Vue no problem. Can't re-install Maya since it was a gift copy and going through registration and activation to get it to work was a nightmare.

Oh well, at least I'll get Vue to work again it seems.

Thanks everyone!

Can you locate the registration file you originally got with Maya, cause if you can you can just initiate it into your new registry.

SAMS3D - I have absolutely no idea how to do any of what you just mentioned - either part... Lemme looki into that because yes - it sounds (to a complete layman) like that would work.

Thanks!

If you find a .reg file that will hold all the data you need to register the product in your registry.  After you find that file, then you double click it and you will be asked if you want to add that to your registry file, you say yes and most likely your program will work.  Example, I had a program, old program that would not install with an installer in Win 7, so I installed it on a XP machine and basically just copied the program right from the old computer, placed it in a directory on the c drive on the new computer, then found the .reg file double clicked it, and added it to my registry and it worked great.

We figured it out! (well, with the help of someone on the Adobe Forums)

Okay, my 64bit programs not running on Win7 64bit - it was my Wacom drivers! For those having this problem, uninstall your CURRENT Intuos4 drivers, and reinstall version 6.1.2-5 and they should all run just fine!

Good luck, and thank you everyone who threw out suggestions - this community is a huge help in MANY regards!

Thundering1, I see latest drivers are version 6.1.6.7 for my Intuos4, are these bad? because you installed earlier drivers...

thundering1 ( ) posted Thu, 01 September 2011 at 7:53 AM

The drivers themselves aren't "bad" - for some reason with my Dell XPS 9300 running Win7 64bit they were overriding the startups of a LOT of my 64bit graphic programs.

They may work fine on other systems - just not mine, and a couple others on the Adobe Forums - so if anyone reading this thread is having a similar problem - here's a fix that has been found.

Mine were a lot older, and I had problems with the computer freezing instead of going to sleep and other stuff. I upgraded to he latest version and I'll see if problems are gone. If not, I'll Install the ones you mentionned here. Thanks for the tip!
