I don't mind meandering.

I will do it too, and I lose my audience fairly quickly.

I didn't have any formal training. I learn everything from tutorials and trial and error. I used to draw, and my mom got me "How To Draw The Marvel Way" as a young teen. I submitted a portfolio to Marvel once, more than 30 years ago. I got told "you're good. You're not Marvel good". I stopped drawing when I was older because arthritis got my hands all messed up. I can't close a fist, but I can grip a mouse. Hence the 3D thing. I can still create, even if I can't draw anymore.

So Sydney isn't running around on cobblestones with no shoes on now. And since I was at it, I made some quick finger-less gloves and a loincloth to cover the bad creasing in the crotch. I like it.

Walk cycle forthcoming.

Too perfect for a comic image?

Although the flattened image and the shaders were not ideal at all for comic post work. Plus for comic post work it should be a higher res image...

Anyway, on to other things.

Speaking of super hero outfits, not looking forward really to having to fix up the Supergirl outfit I have. I'll probably just mostly weld and sculpt for image stuff full body. Haven't gotten to that stage yet. I'm also seeing that I have a distinct lack of rubble and scenes of destruction in my runtimes... time to scour freebie models I guess.

She also needs different eye makeup. The liner is a bit too much for Supergirl I think.

Some really beautiful images on here. Kind of makes you want to give up the whole silly notion of making some Supergirl images though ;)

It's funny, pre internet I used to really enjoy looking at artists work. You had to seek it out and collect books and such. It's was more precious somehow. Then the internet came along and the whole world of images and artists was suddenly a few clicks away. Inundation. It sort of dulls the appreciation. Maybe it's just getting older compounded with that. Now amazing things are being conjured at word prompts, more devaluation. I don't know. It's a strange feeling, like insignificance... something you've spent your whole life seeking out, studying, appreciating suddenly grows so commonplace. It's like when your favorite underground band all of a sudden sells a million records and Joe Blow is a fan now. It's like not earned feeling. Difficult to put into words without sounding...

Another analogy, and this probably only applies to an older male. Remember being a kid and finding a nudey magazine in a trashcan and it was like this forbidden, strange, glowing grail that you just stumbled across. Or scrambled porn on cable, catching a split second glimpse of something. Now it's all you can do to not trip over piles of it. Inundation.

That's my obtuse philosophical musing for today.

I read you loud and clear. I am fully aware of the internet and the power it wields. One of my friends told me one time that the internet ruined his childhood. He knew what a dirty sanchez was before he was old enough to go through puberty. I kind of laughed it off at the time, but now I get it.

Yeah, Poser has a toon shader you can apply to the figure. I don't know how well it works because I don't do toon. I started trying it out in Poser 9, but lost interest.

ShareCG has some pretty cool rubble. I have an abandoned area by nonoko that I use a lot. And look for MortemVetus. A set that includes just rubble. It's called Apocalypse.

It works well, BB had some interesting threads about toon shading. I'd be inclined to use multiple preview renders and the built in comic render style options. And photoshop. At least that's how I typically do it. The line weight is a bit dead but there's tricks to spice it up a bit. Multiple passes and multiply and judicious erasing and compositing helps. You have to render very large for the line work to not be all aliased, which is why my above example looks... aliased.

And thanks for the rubble advice. I got some decent things off turbosquid. I'll check out the MortemVetus suggestion too. One of the MortemVetus folks (I believe it's more than one person) was very nice to me at RDNA, pleasant chap. I like their work.

I'm in the midst of thinking of ways to fix up her suit a bit. A better skirt, better cape. I think I'm going to use the V4 body suit for the main bodice/leotard. I might have to do some frankensteining, or create my own, for the logo. We'll see. Plus I need to make her body, I have some ideas there.

Thanks again rokket. I'll post one more image, her frown, and then not post anything for a while so as not to derail your stuff. I'll comment though.

And don't worry about derailing my thread. I derail it myself because I post on a whim and hardly ever about the original topic. You can post here if you like. I like seeing your work. And now the whole Supergirl thing has me wanting to see the progress.

I got asked to do a Supergirl scene, reminiscent of Superman vs Evil Superman in Superman 3. Wow that was a lot of Superman in one sentence. But it will be Kara vs Supergirl. I have some ideas, but I will need to work on a makeup effect similar to how they did Christopher Reeves in the film. I can do it. Lots of grays and softening shadows.

Crap, I want to work on it right now, but I am at work and have to shut down soon because my replacements will be here shortly.

You have to look close to see the difference in the eyes. This will be the foundation of my evil Supergirl. If I find out he wants it to be just good vs evil, I will use Dawn as the other Supergirl. I already have a look and a costume made.

Ha! I haven't cracked open Comic Life 3 in awhile. This just a simple cell, but I forgot how much fun the program is. I didn't add any comic effects other than the speech bubbles.

Maybe I will do something with the Supergirl vs Kara Danvers thing and make it semi-epic.

Awfully slow hereabouts. People seem to want to state rather than discuss. Or maybe it's just me lol. I think you should go epic on something, spend a bit more time focused... might draw a bit more interest. Me personally, I'm curious about Dawn 2. Having looked at the mesh images it's hard to tell how I feel about what I've seen. I'm curious what happened in that Dawn 2 thread that was here, one minute it was there, the next it was gone. I missed the hoopla.

With the lack of solid updates through that thread, everyone is in a state of limbo.  There is no definite release date and no more promo images.  Even the Hive Wire Forum is quiet about this new model.

rokket ( ) posted Sat, 03 September 2022 at 5:51 PM

I haven't been on the Hivewire site in a very long time. I saw a couple of the updates to the mesh. I liked her looks, much more than the original Dawn. I guess I will wait to see if I am going to take the plunge.

This remake of the scene in Superman 3 will probably take me quite awhile. I have to create some walls that cave in when struck by a super being, and a wall or two that crumbles when a super being is thrown THROUGH it. And I have to create an evil Supergirl costume in black and white (requested) and a business skirt and jacket (unless I can find and refit one in my runtime). Then I have to block out the scene, storyboard and then pose and render.

All in all, it's going to take me more than a couple hours to do it all.

Never played with it. I haven't really seen too much done with it.

I'm working on SG(W)'s body right now. Morphs and some texture touch ups. Yesterday I was working on her skirt a bit, dynamics settings tests. I'm having fun with this project, unfortunately I'm neglecting other projects in favor of this. Using V4 again after not touching the figure for years is interesting. I'm liking morphing her. I think I'll just inject all my stuff into Sasha 16, well I already have but still making morphs. Sasha is taking some brushing up on to get used to again. She'll need some JCMs but they will be pretty easy. Everything else I'll fix on weld sculpts for final images I might make. I'll release the full character morph set as a freebie, but I'm not rushing it. The morphs are actually the easy part. I've already made a set of breast morphs specific to the character... she has small breasts, they came out good. I'll post images when I'm further along into the body sculpt, I don't want to get bogged down with rendering of any type right now. It kills my steam. Well, here's a preview of her breast reduction (said I would), hopefully don't catch a charge for it lol...

The breasts look great. I actually know a woman who could have been the model for them. Yeah, renders slow me down. I usually just keep the render settings on default until I am ready to actually do a render. But I check the progressive tab because I don't like the little box things. I want to see the render as it goes. Then I can stop it after 2 or 3 passes because I have a general idea if it's going to work or not by then.

I think the boobs are just about done for this character, I just need to make a sternum smooth utility morph. There's a bit of compression going on there that's bothering me a little. Or I might just bake it into the base. It's an easy morph and baking it in would just require a couple exports and dial delete/rename.

Thanks. I wanted my Supergirl(Woman) to have small perky breasts. I'm going to give her a bubble butt to compensate lol. Don't ask me what a Freudian analyst would make of that. Actually her bubble butt is s bit of an embarrassment to Kara, and also a (secretly) sort of source of pride. It's all part of my bizarre Multiverse back story that I've been cooking up. I'll reveal the particulars at a later date ;)

I am not offended in the least. You don't have to apologize to me for anything. I have thick skin developed from showing my art (music, drawings, 3D) on the internet in forums and the old BBS from back in the day.

I used to be on Homerecording.com back in 2001 - 2004. The saying there was: "if you want a pat on the back and hugs and kisses, play it for your mom. If you want the truth, post it here." The truth sometimes hurt, but it was always the truth. It helps you grow if you learn to take criticism that is meant to be honest and helpful, versus something that is just meant to tear you down.

I love Jethro Tull. One of many bands where no one in the band is the namesake.

Bungle in the Jungle is another favorite of mine. There are a lot others, but I don't want to ramble...

It's not my thing.

Not that I'm an atheist or anything. I think atheism is just as much an act of faith as being devout. I guess I'm agnostic. I find religion to be very interesting though, and religious art. I do, however, believe in the supernatural, which I guess is sort of contradictory. I try to be kind where it counts, when it's deserved. After observing the nature of someone's character. This goes for everyday real life. I find animals to be more appealing than people... especially as I get older. As far as these interactions go? It's the only interactions I make on the internet. I just to like to write, share my thoughts. I tend to go overboard, but whatever. I'm sure I annoy the hell of many people here, but I think most people are afraid to be themselves, either that or it's just a lack of forthrightness and imagination. But should anybody be themselves really? Probably prudence is the wisest course, but I'm woefully unwise about certain things relating to people. Or maybe I'm just a narcissistic (in a sense) goof lol. A talented goof though, or so I've been told my whole life. Talent goes not very far without ambition to succeed in the public arena. And luck.

As far as the singing goes, more power to ya man. I can't sing, or at least I don't have the balls to sing in public.

On the topic of music

I like a lot of music, I mean alot of types across all genres. Some is pure noise, others very beautiful. You'll be hard pressed to find a genre I'm not at least familiar with.

I've been obsessed with this female songwriter for the past few years, Chelsea Wolfe. It's like folk/doom/goth/darkwave/noise stuff. It's not like she's a sort of sex symbol or anything, but her art makes her captivating to me. Very dark, but very haunting stuff. I saw her perform a few years ago, before I was a fan. I was really blown away by the presence. Like a lightning bolt. Then covid happened and I've been waiting for her to tour the east coast again. In that time my mother passed away and I ended a lingering, sort of codependent, difficult relationship. Both things happening almost simultaneously. There was a lot of regrets. So there was resonance.

Anyway, it's difficult to pick a certain album or performance, she genre skips alot. Her album Abyss is probably my favorite. Here's a decent performance, though she seems very tired here. I like all of her performances really, for different reasons, but this is as good as any to start...

I wouldn't say that she looks tired so much as subdued. In the moment. She's good. Not totally my cup of tea, but I don't knock anyone trying to do what they love musically. There  are genres that I avoid. "Gangsta Rap" comes to mind. Too much liberal use of the N word, too much bragging about the killing, drugs, disparaging women... I don't need that in my life.

I prefer the music of the mid-70's and early 80's to anything that I hear these days. And not the pop music of the 80's either. Michael and Madonna drove me nuts back then. I was a teen, and a closet rebel. Judas Priest, Krokus, and early Queensryche were my go to. I have mellowed some since then, but still prefer 70's and 80's to anything that came about after 1990.

I like a lot of music, I mean a lot of types across all genres.

I like all of her performances really, for different reasons, but this is as good as any to start...

https://youtu.be/jiNvJKF-pks

Oh, and cheers. I quit drinking a few years ago.

I listen to a lot of Grindcore, Death Metal, Hardcore Punk stuff too. So yeah, I'm pretty familiar with "metal". I grew up in the Punk Rock scene in Philadelphia. But I like a lot of pop music, just not much contemporary pop music. I love from the 1950s up to probably the mid 2000s pop. And yes the late 60s through the 70s are particularly a favorite.

I don't really pay much attention lately. Well to underground stuff I do. It happens as you get older. As far as hip hop goes I used to love it. I think the last hip hop artists I was really into was earlier Wu Tang and MF Doom. I work with younger people, it's all they listen to, contemporary Hip Hop and R&B, so I'm quite familiar with recent stuff in that genre. Most of it sounds like the basest conformist music in terms of topicality; Money, Sex. Some of the production is pretty good. I like Pop Smoke's sound. Or how he used to sound before he was murdered. Just the sound mind you, not the topics. I guess it's just a generational thing. Or rather being jaded by the years and not having the youthful enthusiasm to not question the meaning as much. I'm kind of looking forward to leaving this mortal coil. I think civilization, at least western, is on the decline. I don't like a lot of what I see, and rather than getting better many sociopolitical problems seem to be getting worse. But that is an age old cliche of course. I'm not afraid of leaving but I'd like to stick around a bit longer to finish some artworks, if only for myself (which is the really important part for me) ;)

You like hymns?

Here's one that's been in rotation in my playlist. Very fire and brimstone kinda, but cathartic and haunting too

Lingua Ignota, a very aquired taste. Much of her material is very horrorshow harrowing, maybe this too but in a different way.

I will give it a listen in a bit. I saw the notification, but I am in the middle of attempting to reproduce results in Poser. Something that never seems to work for me. I had to delete the scene I was working on for over an hour due to a bug that I couldn't for the life of me fix.

Ah, some days you're the windshield, some days you're the bug.

Whoa, yeah. Very dark, even if the message isn't. The costumes made me sit up and take notice. Her face was covered A LOT. Interesting, but not something I am likely to search out. I pretty much stopped listening to the radio in 1991 (Grunge), and I have Surius XM now, so I can pick and choose and only listen to what I want to.

Jeez, you're still talking to me? Don't you know I'll stick around if you talk lol. 1991? You've missed a lot of good music. Not so much radio per se. Post punk, shoegaze, a lot of really genre defying metal. Post rock. Dream pop. The 90s were a great time for music.

The message in the song by Lingua Ignota could be interpreted as very dark. It's a repetitive mantra. It could be seen as a zealot's litany. Fear is nothing when the path is righteous. People who believe their deity is on their side kind of thing, and the reward is eternity. The whole album evokes a sort of religious conservatism that you might find out in the boonies of Pennsylvania. Well it's one way of looking at it, and partially the inspiration for the record.

Anyway, good luck with your Poser endeavors. Looking forward to seeing something so we can get back to Poser and 3d talk. I'm in the middle of doing some stuff myself.

I do have one I can post. I still have to do a lot of work to get it to where I want it, but:

No post work. The fog is the atmosphere tab in materials. That's M4 on the ground with an alien texture I made for him. That's the Banshee from Poser, and I did some poly pushing and pulling on the ground prop (Double Hill) to get the crashed space ship effect.

I think I finally solved my issue. It was with the talk designer. I haven't used it in FOREVER, so I decided to give it a shot. It took several passes at it to finally get something usable. Sorry, no previews. No spoilers. You'll have to wait until I can get the project finished before I show it. I am trying my hand at video editing and animation. That's all I will say for now.

I like that mist effect. I've never used the atmosphere in Poser, I always just post work it if I need it. BB has some good threads discussing that, I'll have to search them out. Looks actually useful, I imagine it adds significantly to the render times.

Talk designer is something else I've never used. So much so that I never bother creating phoneme morphs when I create custom expressions to fit radical face alterations. I should maybe reconsider that. I always figured that nobody used it, maybe you are an outlier? There does seem to be a large silent Poser user base that utilizes Poser in ways not typical to what is the expected norm represented by what you see represented on the forum.

I'll probably post a couple SG(W) body WIP images sometime tonight. It's turning out well, how I imagined it in my minds eye. She'll need a small bit of extremities scaling though I think. Mostly to get rid of or minimize that V4 look. I'm thinking maybe I should have used PE1 for this, but I haven't really taken the time to familiarize myself with her yet. Then again I don't want to drift too far from the statuesque look that is typical for SG representations. PE1 is kinda stubby by comparison...

rokket ( ) posted Mon, 05 September 2022 at 12:49 PM

I agree with you about PE. I used her for my Cheetara, but it took a long time for me to get the body shape right. Her default form is more "normal" than that of any of the DAZ creations. But when you are doing a model like Supergirl, you need the super model look over the everyday girl look.

Talk designer can be fun. One of the first animations I did was using talk designer. It was from Caddy Shack, the bit where Rodney Dangerfield is in the club shop and finds the awful hat that Ted Knight was also wearing. Don't know if you remember that scene. I had the hat and the sound clip, so I just used P7 James and messed around with it until I figured out how to use it. That animation is long gone. I had it on my YouTube channel forever.

I am about 2/3 of the way done with my latest animation attempt. I hope I can upload it tonight, and I'll link it here.

Eh...

Ran into a snag. The animations I am doing look like crap. Not because of Poser, but because I am trying to get fancy with camera angles and messing things up.

Here's a helpful hint: DON'T use the Posing camera to render the animations. It is apparently constrained to the character (probably the hip), and it jerks and moves as they do. Ok for certain things, not ok for walk cycles or flying sequences. I just gave away a hint at what I am doing (it's not Supergirl), but I am a little pissed off and wanting to vent. I have to redo 3 animations because of me and because of a glitch in one of them. The character suddenly moved to the side on the X axis and then shifted back. Probably because I tweaked something and then kept adding to the animation. I didn't notice it until I had every dynamic prop done. Grrrrrrrrrr

I am not sure yet if I am going to put anything on him as far as clothing goes. He's a pilot, but beyond that, I don't really want to deal with all the cloth sims. And I hate rigging for V4 and M4.

Does M4 have a sock morph for his feet? If so, where?

Oh, wait... he does have a body suit that I can customize...

Meanwhile on the far side of the Multiverse...

FVkaYTHxetQWSmbnLSmcc9cX4hnVaZERMbpwhvZM.png

Continues the ongoing work in progress adventures of Kara Zor-El

About Kara's Accursed/Adored Bubble Butt;

Photo found amongst Kris Kristofferson's private things after his recent passing and examination of estate. Rendered in polaroid.

Yes, THAT Kris Kristofferson.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kris_Kristofferson

There was a brief and torrid relationship between Kara Zor El and Kris sometime in the mid 1970's (the plot line for Super Girl( Woman); Infinite Crisis, Enduring Catharsis takes place during an alternate timeline on Earth K 110, an equivalent to Earth 1's 1970s.)... little is known about this secret and bittersweet summer heat soiree as Kris was married to the singer Rita Coolidge at the time.

Summertime, time, time
Child, the living's easy
Crawdads are jumping out
And the Water, Lord
Water's high, Lord so high

Your daddy's rich
And your ma is so good-looking, baby
She's a-looking good now, ow, ooh, ow
Hush, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby
No, no, no, no, don't you cry, don't you cry

Coolidge hints at knowing about this liaison in her 2016 book Delta Lady: A Memoir.

But I digress...

Howard the Duck is featured as a crossover guest in issue 6 of Supergirl(Woman); Infinite Crisis, Enduring Catharsis. It's in that issue, taking place primarily in the haunted swamps of Louisiana, that the shadowy Kris is vaguely hinted at, leading to wild speculations by riveted readers. Time has revealed some of these suspicions to be true.

But I'm jumping ahead a bit... Nuff Said.

To be continued.

Amazing work. She looks awesome! I can't wait to see what you do with the costume.

It's going to be the standard Supergirl costume. It started as Terry McG's Supergirl cosplay 2 (ShareCG) but I've replaced the skirt and so far am using the V4 body suit for the leotard. I have to decide what to do about the Cape. I might just retopo Terry McG's or make another one. I'm thinking about making a custom chest logo though. And I already have a new cover logo thought up. The skirt and cape dynamic. I'm not worried about fits or fixes, I can do all that for final images in mudbox or blender after sims. The costume is the least of my concerns. It's how heavy and unruly the hair is. Again, mudbox fixes in per render static props generated from the hair figure as needed. I usually also weld out the posed figure, weld out everything really, add a bone converting it to a single actor figure so I can make a series of difference morph fixes as needed overtop using PML exporter importer. Poser figures aren't figures, they're 3d models. Why be constrained by in Poser rules for figures in what can and cannot be done.

primorge ( ) posted Mon, 05 September 2022 at 10:45 PM

But as far as Kara's body shape. WYSIWYG. She's not very buff but has muscular abs and legs. But not ridiculous like V4 muscle morphs. I'll post more images as I move along on things. I also need to spiffy up and make some things for the Hivewire Gorilla as Gorilla Grod. I'm not going to make a comic per se but rather static images with accompanying expository text like I just did above... well, at least until I get bored. Right now thinking up things is pretty fun.
