Subject: Is she worth it

viper ( ) posted Sun, 18 June 2000 at 6:53 PM · edited Wed, 11 December 2024 at 9:37 PM

I know this question has been asked before but now that vikki has been out for a while I want to know some opinions on her is she worth getting?

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Sun, 18 June 2000 at 7:18 PM

I say yes ...

JAFO ( ) posted Sun, 18 June 2000 at 7:54 PM

yes i think so too ... if its within your budget ... i think shes a prevue of things to come.

Y'all have a great day.

melanie ( ) posted Sun, 18 June 2000 at 8:45 PM

Vicki is about the only female character I use anymore. Besides, Zygote has lowered the price back to the introductory offer. She's well worth it. I can't wait until the Millennium Man comes out. Melanie

picnic ( ) posted Sun, 18 June 2000 at 8:47 PM

I agree. I hardly use the P4 woman at all--have used Rena's composite of Vic head/Posette body, but that was because of the clothes issue. Things are getting better there.

Lorraine ( ) posted Sun, 18 June 2000 at 8:54 PM

I think so.

markm ( ) posted Sun, 18 June 2000 at 9:37 PM

I think it's worth it, it poses much better than the P4woman It's not perfect but better. I don't like the way her hips and legs look but thats only in straight on shots and most of the time when posing you won't have that kind of shot anyway.

momodot ( ) posted Sun, 18 June 2000 at 10:21 PM

But WHY is she better? The images at the Zygote site did not impress me. I'm very impressed they came down on the price but still I vascilate about it... what does she have that Eve doesn't? And can I get Vickie genitals, I don't do "beaver" shots or anything, but in a natural standing pose there should be a cleft. Her pelvic region lokks funnty too... only the new knees impressed me. And practically speaking, how bought the face? I always hear "better mapping" but at the risk of making enemies here, I find that modeling must be done with the mesh and bump maps, that modeling on the map doesn't render true. I find I can get the eyebrows and to a lesser extent the lips on the map but forget about sculpting cheek nose or any other aspect of the figure. Well, I'm not posting this to be contrary, I am conflicted, $60 isn't chump change and I feel like I'm being left out somehow and most of all on principal I feel Zygote should be rewarded for the price drop with more sales... but what exactly would I be buying? Is it worth "turning my back" on all my P4 morphs and clothes? Thanks.

SnowSultan ( ) posted Sun, 18 June 2000 at 10:56 PM

I've tried to be as open-minded as possible, but I am still sorry I bought Victoria. I used her for about a week before moving her to CD for good and going back to Posette. "Is it worth "turning my back" on all my P4 morphs and clothes?" - nope. The only reason I can see buying Victoria is if you need a more "mature" (and IMO, rather...well, ugly) woman, and if you don't do any post-render work on your pictures. The eyebrows and lashes are indeed superior, but that can be done just as well with a bit of Photoshop work too. Sorry, I don't mean to offend anyone with my opinions. I just feel you could put that money to much better use in the Renderosity store or perhaps on other Zygote offerings. SnowS Hoping his pictures are worth 1001 words.

viper ( ) posted Sun, 18 June 2000 at 11:11 PM

Well thanks for the wide range of opinions on vikki I was not impressed with the way zygote presented her. I am considering buying her.

arcady ( ) posted Mon, 19 June 2000 at 2:00 AM

Ok; Zygote's images suck big time. A lot of people who render her don't make of a customized morph before they do so you don't often see what can be done with her. BUT; you can make that morph. Using no more than the dials she comes with I've gotten some very different faces. For a decent example of what can be done with her look at this URL: http://www.poserforum.net/millenium/entries.html Here's two 'inworks' of my own with her: http://atless.net/~arcady/3D/asianelf4.jpg http://atless.net/~arcady/3D/learn_frm_master.jpg (615k) My attempts at making an asian face for her. My opinion is that you can easily make her beautiful if that's what you want. From ther you can morph the heck out of her. If you add in the morphs made for her already and posted in the freestuff here and on traveller's site she already has a wider range of morphing available than possette does unless you desire a non-human look. For me possette serves three purposes: 1. non humans that are very alien (unless traveller does his alien morphs up for her). 2. Lower res background characters that need morphs I can't find for the p3 figure. And if I need to make a morph of my own it will be with vicky and not P4/P3. 3. figure who need a piece of clothes I don't have access to with the current selection of vicky outfits and can't get to fit on vicky. Otherwise the figure of choice for females is Victoria.

i think vicky is as a new girl-friend for me. some times i was faszinatet (wondering) of her. some time i crying for the better ways on my old p4 or eve girls (for genital (eve or wwgp3) for berastmorph (the huge arciv for p4 an the poor for her) but using her morphs (special on her head) give me more hope for her - she looks very realistics more then all p4 headmorphs i use. But her body morphs (butt abdome hip) for make her style look not perfekt (like a littel bit fat or give her a big round but and a small chest and breast) there is darknes on my fun. The clothes are bad but i use the morph-shirt blouse an t-shirt with no problems. And on time i think i by the pack of zygo. And that the most detaildevel for my same as a new girl friend- you need more money too make her fine and enjoy (please sorry for my english i am a old gray german) leeroy5

LoboUK ( ) posted Mon, 19 June 2000 at 4:17 AM

Depends on what you want to do. For close-up facial work, Vickie can't be beaten. The range of facial expressions is incredible, and the realism of them is superb. I still find that Eve is slightly better for posing than Vickie and the wide range of P4 clothes for posette can't be beaten. Rena's Vickie/P4NF is absolutely superb as it satisfies two criterea - it gives you the realism of expression that you get from Vickie while making it possible to use the full range of clothes for posette IMHO, she's well worth it Paul

picnic ( ) posted Mon, 19 June 2000 at 7:53 AM

Momodot, the increase of vertices in the head allow for better morphing and a wider range of expression (I really think that's what people are talking about as opposed to 'mapping'). That's what I like about her. Last evening I had wrinkles in her forehead and it took me awhile to determine what dial had done it--because they work more in 'sync' more realistically--if you raise eyebrows or corners of the mouth, they affect the areas above and under the eyes for instance. Then--Traveler has made a lot of morphs (believe there is a genital one)also--and since you are good at this, I think she would be a powerful model for you. Diane

viper ( ) posted Mon, 19 June 2000 at 8:16 AM

Next question Where can I get Eve From

momodot ( ) posted Mon, 19 June 2000 at 8:44 AM

Eve is at Morph World 2 (see side bar) just rember you must instal Eve v.1 before trying to instal Eve v.3. Also you must use Objaction mover I believe because Eve is a .pfc that must be "de-coded" with to a .obj with the Poser P4 nude figure as a "seed file" this is so distributing Eve does not violate Poser copyright. Well, you guys are convincing me to take the leap. I think... This is my last chance to buy anything with money that's worth anything before I move up to Canada ;) The stuff about her face sounds interesting, wish Zygote did better promotional images, the morph samples they show look very cartoonish but you guys have me primed to take a chance with this facial expression stuff. I've only bought Zygote twice before, some morph hair that SUCKED and Heavy Man which is okay but a little frustrating. Thank you for all the help.

picnic ( ) posted Mon, 19 June 2000 at 9:07 AM

Momodot, would you like to see a shot of the P4 woman's head mesh and the Vic head mesh?--since you do morphs, then I think that would mean something to you. Also, Vicky has hip, buttocks and thighs as opposed to hips and thighs (think maybe Eve does too, but not sure). Also, the breasts are part of the collars, not chest and she has 2 'necks'(lower and upper, I guess you would say--it is an improvement over the P4 neck). Diane B

momodot ( ) posted Mon, 19 June 2000 at 9:29 AM

Thanks Diane, I have seen the mesh comparison and there is more thier to work with, thogh the density at the sides of the mouth seem to be what makes her look consistant from charecter to charecter. What you discribe on the body sounds like the good stuff from Eve (who ahas her own problems) and that is very attractive... but I went back to Zygote to make the plunge and all thier damn images are so awefull... the morph samples look like hell. I'm entreaged by what you guys say about facial expressions (I am a painter not a modeler or animator) but Zygote sure does a good job making her look cartoony. Even the eyelashes being so even and straight. Arcady does a good job with her and in the PFO contest the freaky hips and body stuff looks good but the face is pretty consistant from one "charecter" to the other, I wish Metacreations and Zygotte had opted for a more "blank" base face since half the struggle seems to be getting to a nutral starting point (see JAFOs smooth face morph). I wish $60 wasn't such a major expenditure for me, I feel a little funny playing out this big delema in public too. But my wife would be SO angry if she caught me spending $60 on a new doll! I have been tormenting myself about Vickey since I first got into this (Poser was a Birthday preasent to myself in May)... Vickey and Cybermesh (creates mesh from grayscale map) just torture me, I keep hoping people will convince me they are a waste of money once and for all! On the other hand, everytime I screw up my courage to buy Vickey the images at Zygote stop me cold, I get afraid the good Vicky images by you folks are the result of talent I don't have.

picnic ( ) posted Mon, 19 June 2000 at 10:33 AM

Momodot, I think that the texture map (actually 2 now) from Zygote that a lot of people use is part of the 'samey' look. Go back and look at Allie's old woman and her 'saint', James Schoen's images and others. I looked at the PFO Vicky contest and I think a lot of those images were done before there were many other textures around--cept for the Zygote fairy and hero texes. I just haven't done any credible textures except adaptations from P4 ones that have turned out okay but those do allow some differences. I keep meaning to look at your morphs again--I was going to dl some of the ones you had on Freestuff and then you had problems and I haven't gone back for them--ones like those added to Vic could do really neat things. I understand your reluctance to buy anything new. I hesitate to add much to my graphics apps because this is just for fun for me so I'm pretty selective. I've bought Steve's and Rena's CDs, the costume CD from Zygote and Vicky-that's about it except for some 2D apps (along with, of course, Bryce and Poser-both bought in 99)--oh and some of Lynn's and Debra's wonderful animals.

arcady ( ) posted Mon, 19 June 2000 at 11:45 AM

Momodot: You're hitting on my BIG greviance against other users of Vicky. Most of these guys are way beyond me in skill level. Yet they all consistantly keep using the same basic face for her. Most of the character's I see made with her have only minor facial morphs. Still similar enough that she could be the same girl with a pound or two more/less weight or morning verses evening or whatever. This is the case with almost all of these people. There are some great Poser artists out there who right now I would just love to 'slap upside the head' once or twice and get them to start really using those facial morph dials. After I finish my current prject maybe I'll just morhp up 10 very different faces for her and post them as a face pack. Though I can't say much for quality. I merely 'got lucky' with the second of my two asian faces (the first of the two links), I don't much like the first one I did in comparision. But I guess the mere fact that a novice like me can get lucky with the results is a tribute to what she could be in the hands of one of these other people if they'd ever get off their butts and start using her to her potential. If you look hard enough you will find a few faces that speak volumes for what can be done with her... Heck, I'll see if I can find them for you: (there's more here than I started out looking for, some of these are very different, other's are more subtle.) http://www.poserworld.com/fairywoods/characters34V.htm http://www.poserforum.net/ubb/Forum25/HTML/000020.html http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?Form.ShowMessage=108777 http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?Form.ShowMessage=107747 http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?Form.ShowMessage=106472 http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?Form.ShowMessage=106178 http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?Form.ShowMessage=107606 http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?Form.ShowMessage=122159 All of these use the EXACT SAME facial mesh.

Arcady, Thanks for compiling those links. I'll go look right now. Don't toss the first face you made, I like it more than the second, very human, real. I was distracted on the second figure by the oiled up skin and the kind of perfectness of it... the first face would go with a short legged long waisted physic and be a great "portrait". Now to all those images you culled for me! Thank you all, you are tipping me in the direction I DON'T want to go since it will make me poorer but I really apreciate the detailed information you are providing to help me decide. P.S. Thank you all for not bashing my awefull spelling. I grew up speaking english at home but taught myself how to read and write it, I grew up going to French Language Parochial school in Quebec. There are non-english speakers around here who put me to shame with thier nearly flawless English (for example dzart) and people I respect for thier courage to just make themselves understood like Leeroy5 (whoes english is much better than he realizes). But Renderosity really is a safe haven for all us dsylexics and English as a second (third? fourth?) langue typers.

momodot ( ) posted Mon, 19 June 2000 at 12:16 PM

Arcady! Why did you do this too me. The damn URLs are a pretty irrefutable argument (GRUMBLE!)

picnic ( ) posted Mon, 19 June 2000 at 12:46 PM

Oh, Momodot, you just reminded me of a camping trip many years ago into Canada (been there a number of times since) when we camped first on the Isle de'Orleans and tried to buy ice cubes. My husband knew a teeny bit of high school French and we kept going around saying we needed (holding up our fingers held closely together) 'glace' (at the time we knew the word for little also--LOL). Then we moved from there because of wind to the other side of Quebec and there was a big sign posted on the washrooms. We were assuming that it gave times for men and women for showers (non gendered), but found out it was listing the times for mass LOLOL. At that time in Quebec, no one wanted to speak English in certain sections (I said quite awhile ago). So--I totally understand the frustration some must feel trying to make themselves understood here in a language that is their 2nd or more. (Couldn't get those dang Quebecians to understand Spanish no matter WHAT I did *G). Diane B

arcady ( ) posted Mon, 19 June 2000 at 12:47 PM

Momodot: You've got my figures reversed. The two faces I made and posted above. I posted the second one I made as the first link. So, let's put it this way. I don't like the one that has the bird on the woman's shoulder. I do like the other one. I think that's the same comment you had. Part of it is the extures though. The woman with the bird uses a texture of my own making. My first attempt at such. She was also rendered just after I bought Vue so I was earlier on in my learning of the highlights/shinyness settings. :) When I think of Vicky I think of her as a model that you really ought to morph into new and different faces EACH AND EVERY time you use her. Simply because you can. In possette you're often stuck having the same face as the other 10 guys who posted pics that day. Unless by luck you hit a combination of morphs that doesn't rip any seams apart and still looks unique. With Vicky even a novice like me can get unique faces on every try. So I figure unless I want people to think 'this is the same woman you saw last time' then I see no reason to not make a unique face.

Well I just bought her and so far I like her lets hope it stays that way. By the way the reason I purchesd her is because of all the great support the people of rederosity have shown her had it not been for these individuals I think vikki would have died at birth. Thanks to all who have taken thetime to post their free item here. Sean

arcady ( ) posted Mon, 19 June 2000 at 7:21 PM

Ok... Now you've bought her. Now GO TO FREESTUFF and download EVERYTHING in the millie/vicky section AND do a search for these names: millie, vicky, vickie, victoria. There's at least one, maybe more items for her that are not in the proper section. If you want to be real keen about it just do a what's new and go back to about the beginning of march or whever she came out and then start going forward until you've gone about 2 months. After that point it's all in the correct section. Doing this will GREATLY improve what you get out of her. Also search Traveler's site (morph worls), Poswerworld and Props guild. All have added stuff for her that is invaluable. And Poseworks has a bodysuit morph for her that's great as well.
