Great idea. Super-minor detail: Not sure about the "only" in the phrase "our only 'engine' for imagination". Don't want those of us who may use other programs in conjunction with Bryce to give the incorrect impression that we are not using any of the features of other related programs on the market.
Oh, and it wouldnt hurt to ask people in the Poser forum, and at 3D Commune. A lot of brycers there. Ill post a message at 3DC, and link to this one!

Dunno, sounds a little "pleading" to me without offering much in the way of marketing research or help, which we could easily provide. At the end of the day they won't give a...well they won't give anything for heartstrings...they will for profits. Not sure where I'd go but getting some "good" numbers about market size or market share my buy a conversation with them. I'm in wherever you land though....

Feel free to ignore any or all of the above suggestions. I've been told I'm a good writer, but I'm far from a professional; hopefully someone else will know better than I do. The content itself of the letter seems good to me, I can't think of anything to add.
I guess I did kind of like Haloedrain. Only I completely revised it hoping to have stated the same thing as you have laid out before us Drac...primarily cause for me it is just easier that way. Take it for what it is worth. Dear Sirs: We represent a huge group of 3D artists who are extremely interested in seeing Vector Capital re-implement the continuing development of Bryce 5, a program labeled under Corel Corporation which Vector Capital just bought. We are a huge group of artists, some accomplished and some just entering the world of 3D that uses Bryce quite avidly. Bryce users range from the hobbyist to the professional artist. All those who use Bryce have come to find Bryce as a mid-level and affordable rendering tool used not only for landscaping; but also in a variety of other ways. The Bryce user has found that Bryce is not only good for landscaping but in fact will contend with higher end 3D programs such as 3D Studio Max, Cararra, etc. Bryce has a huge following of users. More users than it is generally given credit to have. There are scores of individuals who do truly find genuine satisfaction in the ease of use and results that are obtained with Bryce in its countless applications and abilities All of our attempts to encourage Corel Corporation to continue its further development of Bryce, which is by no means an obsolete program, have been to no avail due to Corel Corporations shaky financial status. We have encouraged them to continue development of Bryce or to sell it to any of various other parties which display a manifested interest in obtaining Bryce to further the development of the program, if it were an endeavor which they did not want to pursue. Our attempts to encourage the furthering of Bryce were fruitless. We are full of hope Vector Capital will take this in hand and seriously consider re-establishing the development of a very sought after program. Even in the wake of Corels buy out, people are still buying Bryce 5. This is not just to be considered due to the vast number of people that use Bryce worldwide; but also because there is a very lucrative side to this programs that Vector Capital should realize as well. It is revenue that is currently not being generated. Respectfully we ask for a response from Vector Capital to our plea for the continued development of Bryce. We also respectfully ask that if Vector Capital chooses to not continue the development of Bryce that they would take into serious consideration the parties that have a very big interest in obtaining the program so that they can further develop Bryce. In any case, we do not want to see Bryce just simply die and fade away as an impossible venture. There has been very much good development to this program since its conception. Bryce has a huge, huge number of users that genuinely want to see this program maintain its integrity as a viable 3D application. We sincerely ask that Vector Capital will give serious consideration to this petition and that they will likewise return a solid response as to the direction Vector Capital chooses to take the Bryce program. Sincerely, All Bryce users worldwide

"BRYCE USERS OF THE WORLD UNITE" or untie, whichever, 8) The battle cry has been sounded and the banner taken up and I think that the way the letter has been going is getting better all the time although there are still some parts that I see as being a bit OT in various ways. I will have a go tonight on writing my interpretation of our plea and post it tomorrow. But whatever is finally decided on I'm in. 8) Cattlin

I'm here from 3DC via Rochr's link but I'd certainly like to add my voice. I'm a beginner struggling to learn the program and would like to hope my effort to gain the skill will pay off in future upgrades (though I can't imagine ever stopping trying to use it even if no one ever develops it any further - I'm just too hooked).
Petitiononline.com is a fabulous way to go. Although, there is a chance anyone in charge won't take the time to look at it, it will still be worth a shot! I don't think we really have anything to lose. I'm up for signing my name, and for when the petition gets up, making sure any site that has a couple of Brycers rattling around on it know about the petition. AgentSmith

It would be a terrible shame to let this awesome 3D program not come to maturation and just let it die where it stands now. Not that that would make a difference to any of us Brycers since we'll continue to use it no matter what the outcome. You can certainly count me in as well for the signing of the petition. And to make sure that the people over at Vector Capital see the petition, maybe a few emails should be sent their way as a heads-up.
By all means go for it haloedrain. Every bit of help in this is good. We want it to be as perfectly fitting as it can be when this is finished and ready to post to the petition online site. 8) Wade

Not a real list, I have some forums and such saved in my favorites. This looks like the time to get them organized... AS

Wow! Catlin just pointed me to this thread--there's a lot here! I have a plane to catch presently, so I'll be brief: This petition is a great idea. I hope it can have some impact. I won't belabor my cynicism about the bean counters at coporations the size of Corel (or Meta), but it's always worthehile speaking up. We'll continue our efforts to wrest Bryce from Corel and to give it a loving home. Wish us luck, and thank you very much for your support! -Mo

Thanks Doc Mojo for checking this thread out. You have a lot of support from us in this endeavour. We really hope you can acquire Bryce from Corel. If they aren't going to do anything with it then it belongs with someone who will. 8)

It is my understanding that the Vector group is out of town this week, meeting with the folks from Corel. Vector has a hugh responsibility concerning Corel and their employees. Corel got themselves into this mess and hopefully Vector will be able to save the maximum number of jobs and products. To us this is about Bryce, to Vector it is about investment, they will not 'plunder' Corel as the core of the Corel business is packaged as a group of tools, together they will thrive, spun off they will die. It goes with out saying, that it is painfully obvious that Bryce is not a part of this core group of tools. I am nobody, a nothing in life, but I did call Vector and Vector did tell me that they would continue to market and develope the current products. I applaud Vector for this, especially in light of the fact that in the last 11 years I have been sold twice and I know what it is like to have your job on the chopping block. I hope that as many of our Canadian friends can keep their job as is possible. On the question of Bryce, I was told that they really could not comment on Bryce at this time. I understand their reluctance to comment, this is often the case if a product is being discontinued or is being offered for sale. Mum is the word. I certainly hope that Ken Musgrave can manage an agreement with Vector concerning Bryce and I hope that Vector takes the high road concerning Bryce and the users of Bryce, and offers Bryce to Mr. Musgrave at a price that will enable Mr. Musgrave to buy Bryce. In the long run, Vector is not the bad guy here, they will ultimately save the Corel products, in spite of the Corel managements inability to manage. As far as the petition, you can certainly consider me as a signer of the petition. BabaLouie
In my experience, it's numbers that speak to corporate "heads"...is it possible to get a count of members or hits from the various Bryce forum moderators around the web-world? Maybe , just maybe, the number of CURRENT users and enthusiasts will propel them into understanding that Bryce is STILL a viable money-maker, especially if it's improved upon. It seems obvious that unless they think they can continue to profit from Bryce, they will do nothing with it...after all, corporate thinking is all about being in business to make money. Unfortunate, I know...but true none the less. Any ideas on how to prove to them that Bryce can still be a lucrative endeavor?

Okay, I think we can all agree on one thing: we can not be left in limbo over the future of Bryce. Corel's been sold off? FINE. Bryce was discontinued due to financial woes, maybe the degradation of the mid-level 3D app market, whatever. We want to know if Vector plans on doing anything with the program, if it at least intends to sell it. That's all. Even if you think that it won't happen, even if you consider the future of Bryce written down in darkness, whatever it might be, I am sure that you can agree with me on the simple fact that we would all like to know what's gonna heppen to it. So the petition would only ask that question. Here's what I have written so far. Please add to it, point to the flaws in grammar and spelling, etc. -English is my second language, bare in mind :D To Whom It May Concern, We represent a group of 3D artists who are interested in seeing Vector Capital revive the development for the Bryce program from its newly-bought Corel Corporation. Many of us come from different online communities, either as established artists or growing enthusiasts, altogether people with a serious interest in this piece of software that we have grown to love. For the weekend warrior as well as the dedicated professional, Bryce filled a void as a mid-level and affordable rendering solution, used not only for landscaping but also in a variety of other fields. Indeed, there is nothing out there that Bryce can not do. Its basis is as stable as the undersigned, scores of individuals who truly find satisfaction in the program and its countless applications. All our attempts towards Corel, all our pleas for keeping the development of Bryce alive -which is by no means obsolete or even past its time, have largely failed, due to Corel's shaky financial situation. We hope that with its takeover by Vector Capital, the idea of continuing the development of Bryce 5 to other versions will be considered seriously, not only from the perspective of its large and vibrant community, yearning for its prolonged life, but also from the point of view of financial viability. We respectfully ask for an answer from Vector Capital as to the direction in which it plans to take the development of Bryce, either by continuing it, or by selling it to parties that have already manifested interest in the application. In any case, we would not like to see Bryce simply die, forgotten as some pipe dream or impossible venture, not after so much work has been put in it, not after such a community has been built upon it, with members and literature and everything else that altogether clearly show the viability of continuing the life of this product. We could not possibly bear the weight of the discontinued label, corporate language for the destruction of our only engine for imagination. We sincerely hope that a reply from Vector acknowledging this petition will be received. Thank you. ------ thanks for reading. again, add what you think is important, etc. Petitiononline.com is a great place to get this put up. I've already looked it up. Cheers Mihnea
