entering from the bryce forum while wearing a fake 'tash and sporting a VERY bad french accent (if you have never seen the BBC's 'Allo 'Allo program this joke is wasted on you and i'm sorry) //start of bad french accent er... i'm from over the road. i er... "aquired" poser 5 from... somewhere and need help with it. fiddles with tash for a scene i'm knocking up i need to drape an old sheet over an object (a car if you must know). can i use the dynamic clothing wossit to do this and how do i do it? if you tell me i promise not to slag off poser (and your good selves) for about... oooh.... a month? cheers froodz! drops mostash //end of bad french accent ooh er! please don't bite! John

Scarab ( ) posted Tue, 02 September 2003 at 8:22 PM

If your reference to "acquiring" Poser5 from "somewhere" means that you are using a warez version (also suggested by the fact that you obviously don't have a manual) prepare to be bitten like a rabbit in a piranha pool. Scarab<-ducking for cover 'fore the others get here

Niles ( ) posted Tue, 02 September 2003 at 8:37 PM

hope the "tash" does not fall off...if P5 is legal copy, drop the disguse and rephrase the question???

burgi ( ) posted Tue, 02 September 2003 at 8:51 PM

i do actually have the manual. does anyone actually read them? i don't support warez. i "borrowed" my copy from work. they don't know it yet..... John PS: you try to be nice and joke, NO-ONE gets it!

PapaBlueMarlin ( ) posted Tue, 02 September 2003 at 8:51 PM

There are some tutorials for dynamic clothing around somewhere. You might try doing a search or referring to your manual. Warez is a serious topic in this forum, one that isn't easily smoothed over with British humor. BTW, you had some interesting pics in your gallery.

burgi ( ) posted Tue, 02 September 2003 at 8:53 PM

your not niles crane are you? that could explain the lack of humour....

burgi ( ) posted Tue, 02 September 2003 at 8:56 PM

manuals are for wimps. i really thought you lot would be more understanding. John

Niles ( ) posted Tue, 02 September 2003 at 9:06 PM

Humor is not allowed here ... it will be moved to OT Forum ;)

PapaBlueMarlin ( ) posted Tue, 02 September 2003 at 9:11 PM

The lack of humor in the forums is due to some arguments about where W.I.P.'s and ads should be posted. Not because of you. There are some tutorials in previous threads. You might find them by using the search option. Warez is a pretty touchy topic here. I think you just hit a nerve at a really tense time with all the M3 mess. You are welcome in this forum. Please post an image of where you are with this project and maybe someone can give you some pointers on where to get started. PapaBlueMarlin

LOL.. DarkElegance, its been tense around here since the whole M3 thing went down. As far as a humor tag, I wouldn't bother. I tend to associate some members (like TrekkieGrrl) with pretty humored posts. This time I was unfamiliar with burgi. From time to time, we've had posts from visitors expecting serial numbers for Poser. There have been those who were pretty blatant about their downloading warez. I have to admit I snapped at burgi a bit prematurely. I didn't get the joke at first, I just zoomed in on the word "acquired." Sorry about that.

Hey, welcome to the Poser forum. Glad to see Brycers wander in. Yeah, we're a bit more edgy than over there but as PapaBlueMarlin says, there are other reasons. I'd encourage you to get familiar with the manual. It will get you familiar with the program. When you get stumped, feel free to ask. One of the best ways to phrase a question is to just say page xx didn't light your rocket and we'll all go there and look it up and give our two cents worth. As Scarab pointed out, we do get our jollies by trashing the daylights out of the warez folks. Its like a national treasure to get in a warez thread with some goofy comment before the thread gets locked. We have a monthly challenge that is patterned after AgentSmith's fine work over there. September is about to start so you're just in time. Borrowed from work and they don't know it yet? OUCH! Mama Judy says to go back to work and fess up though. I won't go there cuz I'll end up in the Jar Jar corner again.

hauksdottir ( ) posted Tue, 02 September 2003 at 9:55 PM

Eric, If you only glance at MamaJudy, you might think she is squeezing some alien bugger until his eyestalks pop up. Carolly, whistling innocently

EricofSD ( ) posted Tue, 02 September 2003 at 9:57 PM

She's a cutie, eh Carolly? I'm so fond of her mohawk.

Lyrra ( ) posted Tue, 02 September 2003 at 10:18 PM

yes you can in fact do the cloth draping thing in Poser5 .. however I haven't quite figured out how to it get back out again .... tongs maybe? grin you might be stuck rendering in POser evil laugh (don't worry .. since you use Bryce the times won't be significantly differant than what you are used to) PhilC is the man to ask..but that thread that some linked is a good place to start. The Poser forum, if you haven't noticed, is kinda rabid about warezers .... its not a good thing to joke about grin Good luck! Lyrra

DarkElegance ( ) posted Tue, 02 September 2003 at 10:19 PM

OMG LOL she does look like she is squeezing some poor alien! it is ok for the humor thing just gotta keep the humor going:) and I am still waiting to get in on a warez post..I hear that is like the final initiation to renderosity!

I think that I've only managed to sneak in once before a thread was locked :)

PabloS ( ) posted Tue, 02 September 2003 at 10:36 PM

You can 'export' your draped cloth as an obj file to get it out of Poser (or even if you want to use it as a prop later).

Lyrra ( ) posted Tue, 02 September 2003 at 11:08 PM

Pablo The one time I tried that it exploded on import to Poser 4 ... not sure what I did wrong then. I'm at sr2 .. is that soemthing that sr3 fixed?

EricofSD ( ) posted Wed, 03 September 2003 at 12:35 AM

I don't see it. The shadow? Oh, and the guy to ask about draping the cloth is likely going to be PhilC. I saw a guy do that in Bryce some time ago with the lattice editor. Came out fantastically well!

PabloS ( ) posted Wed, 03 September 2003 at 5:16 AM

Lyrra, I've only done the export a couple of times. I'm at sr3 now but I don't recall if I did it before the its release. :-(

hauksdottir ( ) posted Wed, 03 September 2003 at 5:47 AM

Eric! You are much too close to your own work to see it truly as we all do. That is ok: I understand that aliens do mindwipe their captives, but it is reversible. What you perhaps intended to be two small palm trees in the distance are exactly right to be alien eyestalks given the location and position of her hand. She appears to be squishing something very, very tightly, and the eyestalks fit the image. Carolly

who3d ( ) posted Wed, 03 September 2003 at 7:21 AM

'i do actually have the manual. does anyone actually read them?' Err - the people who answer the questions around here probably did. 'i don't support warez. i "borrowed" my copy from work. they don't know it yet.....' I'm amazed that everyone else is so complacanet about this. "Borrowing" without permission is also known as "theft". Ask anyone whose car has been borrowed without permission. There IS "room" to interpret what you've said in a good light, but on ehas to make an awful lot of assumptions about you and your employers in order for that statement to say anything better than "I shall say this only wernce - I've knicked it from work and that's OK because they are a company and deserve to be stolen from, wink wink". Whic IS the very basis of the warez attitude (as I understand it). Maybe the group's feeling a bit lenient in the wake of all the commerial-advert and M3 wars - but I'm sure we'll be on top of "outraged by compyright violations" and "Poser art has gone downhill, it's all T&A's now" mode soon :)

Lawndart ( ) posted Wed, 03 September 2003 at 2:04 PM

Yes you can do what you are asking. Create the cloth and have it drape over the car. Export the cloth as a prop. Take into Bryce and render. Just HOW do you do it? Well... Read the manual. :)

Lawndart ( ) posted Wed, 03 September 2003 at 2:06 PM

That qualifies as good old fashioned dry British humor doesn't it? LOL...

burgi ( ) posted Wed, 03 September 2003 at 7:24 PM

i'm taking the bloody thing back tomorrow so it was actually borrowing it. i just didn't ask before taking it, thats all.... what is all this talk about: * m3? is that some update i'm going to have to snaffle form somewhere * v2/v3 yet another update i need? anyway who needs the serial code? i've just ran a quick google search for cracks for poser 5 and well, just guess the results. long live google! maybe i shouldn't have said that... i don't suppose you could point me in the direction of the bar can you? the bryce forum has a HUGE one near the door. and does anyone have an oily rag/sheet texture they are willing to share? John PS: fake mostash for sale, one previous owner, lower milage, bit of skin thrown in for free.

burgi ( ) posted Wed, 03 September 2003 at 7:28 PM

i apologise for the spelling mistakes in the previous post. they are inexcusable. i have just got in from the pub.... John

PabloS ( ) posted Wed, 03 September 2003 at 7:29 PM

serial code? cracks? Boy! You just don't get enough?!?. Is your life insurance up-to-date? M3 (Michael 3), V2 (Victoria 2), and V3 (Victoria 3) are upscale characters you BUY from Daz3d.

Lawndart ( ) posted Wed, 03 September 2003 at 8:03 PM

Unless of course you do a google search for them too. Right? ;)

burgi ( ) posted Wed, 03 September 2003 at 8:12 PM

i see. life insurance? pah! for wimps! again it was mentioned in a jokey way. i drive a motorcycle on british roads. i can take on ANYTHING! except trucks. and buses. and walls. aren't these V3 thingys part of the pro pack? nope i guess not. this 'ere cloth sheet has hung up poser. is it meant to do that? what was the M3 kerfuffle about, or is it something i'm not allowed to mention... John pS: i only mentioned the cracks to highlight how dense some people are. maybe i should shut up now...

Lyrra ( ) posted Wed, 03 September 2003 at 8:41 PM

We here at Renderosity have no sense of humour that we are aware of Be careful .. or I'll tell AgentSmith that you're being naughty M3 and V3 stand for Michael 3 and Victoria 3, both the respective third versions of third-party figures from Daz3D Lyrra the UnFun (moderator)

jjsemp ( ) posted Wed, 03 September 2003 at 9:08 PM

Rules for posting on Renderosity forums: Rule number 1: Do NOT use humor. Nobody gets it, unless you use a smiley face, emoticon or some other kind of blatant indication that you're trying to be funny. Rule number 2: Dry British humor is especially dangerous. It requires wit and depends on subtlety. See Rule number 1. Rule number 3: If you don't seem warm and cuddly in your post, then you will be villified. There is no in-between. Rule number 4: Don't be blunt. It will be construed as arrogance. See rule number 3. Rule number 5: Be alert. The popular blood sport here is jumping down people's throats at the slightest hint of incorrect behavior, whether real or imaginary. Rule number 6: Follow the rules or somebody will jump down your throat. See rule number 5. Rule number 7: There is NO rule number 7. If you insist on behaving according to rule number 7, then somebody will jump down your throat. See rule number 6. Note: the above was just a joke. Here is a cute, adorable, cuddly, winking, smiley face to denote it as such ;-)

jjsemp ( ) posted Wed, 03 September 2003 at 9:13 PM

Oops forgot rule number 8: Rule number 8: If you do insist on telling a joke, then the only acceptable response you can hope to receive is somebody telling you that they spit coffee on their monitor. It is a very tired cliche that people think is clever. But it is also the mark of the true Renderosity humorist (although personally I wonder about the mental health of anyone who can't control their bodily functions while laughing).

Lawndart ( ) posted Wed, 03 September 2003 at 9:53 PM

jjsemp: That is beutiful. I just spit coffee all over my keyboard. alsdfgk l;asd, klnm <--- Letters making it look like my keyboard is malfunctioning due to spitted coffee.

EricofSD ( ) posted Thu, 04 September 2003 at 12:14 AM

I still don't see the alien. Oh, and remember the only right answer to "Does this dress make me look fat?" is 42. Actually, 42 is the answer to a lot of tough questions and it will keep you out of trouble and avoid the throat jumping thing. The palm trees don't look like eyes, do they?

hauksdottir ( ) posted Thu, 04 September 2003 at 2:01 AM

Eric, Don't worry about it. One of the buttons I had made up reads: "Hostes alienigeni me abduxerunt. Qui annus est?"

who3d ( ) posted Thu, 04 September 2003 at 4:44 AM

Eric I find 7 is often a better answer than 42. Especially when it turns out that the question is something like "how many sausages do you want for dinner?".

RHaseltine ( ) posted Thu, 04 September 2003 at 6:30 AM

"somebody will jump down your throat" Watch it or we'll have all the Mil. Cats making blunt posts.

who3d ( ) posted Thu, 04 September 2003 at 6:52 AM

Life aassurance is an oddity, isn't it? I mean - basically you're making a bet with someone else that you're going to die in the next year - and if you win you're too dead to appreciate the fact or enjoy your winnings :(

JohnRender ( ) posted Thu, 04 September 2003 at 9:27 AM

If this guy can find so much on Google, why is he even asking questions here? And if he's basically bragging that he "acquired" (read: stole or warezed) a copy of Poser, why are we even answering his questions? And what was funny about the first post? Was it because 'e left off 'etters in 'is posting? And what's a "tash"?

KateTheShrew ( ) posted Thu, 04 September 2003 at 11:58 AM

Does it count as "warez" if you fished it out of the trashcan?

RHaseltine ( ) posted Thu, 04 September 2003 at 1:07 PM

'Allo 'Allo was a sit-com about a bunch of incompetent French Resistance agents operating from a cafe, smuggling airmen out of occupied France - Dad's Army style - so lots of Clouseauesque French accents. Tash = tache = moustache.

burgi ( ) posted Thu, 04 September 2003 at 6:40 PM

yay! someone finally got it! google isn't as chatty as here. John

dallas40m ( ) posted Thu, 04 September 2003 at 7:01 PM

Only if you didnt throw it in the trashcan yourself to begin with Kate!! :D
