Subject: Where do I go to complain about a product???

dlk30341 ( ) posted Thu, 11 September 2003 at 6:54 PM · edited Fri, 29 November 2024 at 5:46 AM

Having a HUGE snit here...purchased a lighthouse $18.00....The damn breakdown for applying textures is in Dutch/Netherlands..how the hell am I supposed to figure out where to apply the appropiate textures?????? The texture files are in English, however, the breakdown of parts of the lighthouse are in a foreign language!!!! I've never vented here before but I'm VERY ANNOYED!!!!!! What is the appropiate forum to complain.......... TIA

Gremalkyn ( ) posted Thu, 11 September 2003 at 6:59 PM

I have no idea about the correct forum, but, have you tried contacting the person who made the lighthouse? They might be able to provide what you need.

SamTherapy ( ) posted Thu, 11 September 2003 at 7:00 PM

Contact the author. And why not be a little polite about it. I deal with screamers every day and I honestly wish they'd all f*ck off and die, even if their complaint is justified.

I expect that the texture breakdown was not in a foreign language when the creator wrote it. It was good of them however to translate the texture files into a foreign language so that you could read them.

I'm not a screamer......just would like some help. I will admit I'm screaming at the puter right now....I'm not an ugly, yakking maniac. I'm just stunned so to speak that someone would put out a product in a foreign language. Yes, I am attempting to contact the author in a POLITE manner. I'm on a time constraint here and was not expecting this sudden "inconvience" so to speak. So pleeeassseeee...shrugging shoulders..siiiighhhhh

An IM to the person that made it should solve the problem.

PhilC ( ) posted Thu, 11 September 2003 at 7:16 PM

I wish there was an edit button.....I figure I was being polite in NOT mentioning the authors name...I have no need or reason to belittle or chastise anyone by name.....I'm sure a solution is lurking around the corner.....Thank You all for listening to my brief vent...it's a first. :) & definately will be my last :(

try this online translator - copy and paste the text from the help file into the text box. it might be broken english, but it might at least give you a better idea if you're on a time constraint.

dlk30341 ( ) posted Thu, 11 September 2003 at 7:19 PM

If I copy the text will that be illegal, in the fact I'm providing the ACTUAL files????

dlk30341 ( ) posted Thu, 11 September 2003 at 7:20 PM

PhilC ( ) posted Thu, 11 September 2003 at 7:21 PM

dlk30341 ( ) posted Thu, 11 September 2003 at 7:41 PM

I can't get the darn thing to do a screen capture :(...the list of material parts disappears whenever I try to capture the screen...the list is long......I'll keep trying....:( Thank You!!!!!! for all help The above metnioned website in not translating correctly...so I guess it's NOT Dutch, the reason I know this is because it said something was a church shutter LOL and there are NO shutters on this object.....Oh well, guess I'll go for tube in PSP, to see what I can do that:( Thanks again....

Marque ( ) posted Thu, 11 September 2003 at 7:48 PM

I bought the same lighthouse and you can't texture it unless you go through each part to figure out what it is. Will not buy from this person again, they got $18 from me but also ruined their rep with me. It's the one by Alfons right? Marque

I think I have that same lighthouse with names written in a foreign language. It's a very nice lighthouse too. However, in Poser the texture is already applied so I didn't have any problems with it. Are you using it in another program? I've attached a screen capture for the one I have.

Thank you!!! Yes ...that is it...I'm using PPP4 & the textures are not applying correctly...the whole lighhouse is remaining metal...the textures are not loading :(

I can understand your frustration, but it seems to me that what is a foreign language to you is not a foreign to someone else. I guess it depends on where you live. :-)

My idea of rebooting is kicking somebody in the butt twice!

Marque ( ) posted Thu, 11 September 2003 at 8:01 PM

When I brought in the 3ds into poser it wasn't loaded automatically, how did you get it to do that whbos?? Marque

Marque ( ) posted Thu, 11 September 2003 at 8:04 PM

Guess it also depends on if you want to sell more if you are advertising and selling on a site that is english speaking. Like I said, won't be buying anything more from this person, I have yet to get an answer to my email from when I first bought it. Lots of folks here are from other countries but I notice they usually get someone to translate. Marque

dlk30341 ( ) posted Thu, 11 September 2003 at 8:04 PM

Live in US....Like I said before..hubby speaks German..he recognized as it as Dutch or above....I'm with Marque...HOW did you get it load?????? I tried but it came out all solid gold...even after rendering......My head is becoming extremely bruised from all the keyboard beatings LOL ;)

dlk30341 ( ) posted Thu, 11 September 2003 at 8:07 PM

Thanks Marque...exactly how I feel.......:(. I have NEVER had ANY complaints about any products I have ever purchsed...I wished I had looked at this sooner....the 1st time I've had a need to use it & in crunch time...oh well...

whbos ( ) posted Thu, 11 September 2003 at 8:18 PM

Actually, I think it was a 3DS object and not a Poser prop. I stand corrected. I bought mine some time ago and vaguely remember having the same problem. I had to experiment with the texture map by randomly applying it to different parts until I could get it to look right. Using my screen capture above, I applied texture names as follows. "None" indicates I didn't apply any textures and left the default colors (probably because I couldn't figure out where they went): Stone_02.jpg STONES.jpg grycon3.jpg pavement.jpg pavement.jpg stones.jpg plateox2.jpg METL20L.jpg glas.jpg copperox.jpg none glas.jpg none steelplt.jpg none none none plateox2.jpg steelplt.jpg none none planken2.jpg muurstuc.jpg none steelplt.jpg glas.jpg And I guess it isn't foreign unless you aren't from the same country. But I would assume if vendors are going to deal with predominantly English-speaking buyers they should consider putting it in English especially if the object isn't Poser ready. If not, put a note on the page indicating such.

Thank You all for help...I was not meaning to be rude in any way...I have posted a note/complaint in the appropiate place, thank you Dialyn for pointing me in the correct direction:)...Going off to bed now & disappointed :( Thanks again......You all have a great night:)

Marque ( ) posted Thu, 11 September 2003 at 9:38 PM

Nor was I meaning to be rude, just disappointed as it looked so cool in the ad. Oh well, we win a few and lose a few. Marque

Richabri ( ) posted Thu, 11 September 2003 at 10:05 PM

You were not being rude dlk30341 and I'm surprised so many seemed to make it seem like it was somehow your fault! The names should have been translated to English or it should have been advertised as the 'Dutch' version of the Lighthouse - for crying out loud!

dlk30341 ( ) posted Fri, 12 September 2003 at 7:58 AM

I want to publically thank the author of this lighthouse for responding....The author is going to send me a fully textured version....To Marque...in my reply to him I have asked to come here(this forum) and help you out as well...or anyone else who needs this translated/textured.... Have a great day!!!!! :)

terminusnord ( ) posted Fri, 12 September 2003 at 12:49 PM

Without familiarity of the model in question, here are my best guesses:

Kerkruiten - Church style window (glass portion)
Vuurtorenramen - Lighthouse windows
KerkraamKozijnen - Church window frames
Planken - Shingles / Clapboard planks
Spijkers - Nails
Fresnel Lens - The lighthouse lens, named for Augustin Jean Fresnel
MetaalFresnel - Presumably the lens's frame
LuikScharnieren - Skylight/Porthole hinges
Nagels - Not sure what it means in context, the word means fingernails usually
Schakelaar - switch (e.g. electrical type)
Kabel - Cable
Lamp - Lamp bulb
Draden - Gears
Deurkruk - Door handle/knob
Torenglas - Tower glass
DiamantPlaat - "Diamond Plate/Tread" like on shiny pickup truck toolboxes and fire trucks
Muurankers - Iron rings/hooks for attaching things to
Wenteltredes - Spiral stairs? I'm not familiar with this compound word
Vloer - Floor
Middenkolom - Center Column
Afdekplaten - Deck platform (floorboards?)
VuurtorenMuur - Lighthouse Wall

-Adam

hauksdottir ( ) posted Fri, 12 September 2003 at 6:19 PM

Wentletrap is a spiral staircase, and also a seashell which has the same look of spiraling steps. Wentletredes is perhaps a cognate. I suspect that it refers to steps winding upwards with no outside railing for the hands (but on a lighthouse I would want to cling to something!) This architectural feature is often found inside old churches as a way to get up to the organist's loft or whatever. Muuranker sounds like wall-anchor (murals usually being vertical) so those rings are probably on a vertical surface. Spikes and nails are different in size and heft. Also spikes tend to be removable and to stick out more from a surface than do nails. Spikes also sometimes have bent tips, or holes for ropes, whereas nails are usually straight and uncluttered. I'm glad that somebody else recognized the name Fresnel, and if this lighthouse really does have a fresnel lens modeled as part of it, it is exceptionally well-detailed. Carolly
