Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 11 3:50 am)
I am kind of new to Poser 5 as well, but when you are in any of the rooms, you can change any of the characters (I believe) to resemble wireframe characters. There are little buttons (mine are at the bottom of my screen) and one will be a render button, another a wireframe button, a flatmodel button (or something along that nature) and each of them change the character to appear different. Hope this helps.
I think that what is referred to in the tutorial is the same as what is mostly known as a template. You can find templates for the Poser 5 people here in Free Stuff. They're used if you want to make your own textures, so that you can see where to place what G The face Room, while a good idea, isn't really working too well. There are simply too few points to pull to make it really look like anyone in particular. It is great for caricatures though. But one of it's limitations are the small textures, only 512x512 as far as I remember, which doesn't really leave any room for details. A good, high rez head texture can easily be at 2000x2000 pixels. Silly Sue, you're right about the display modes. I just don't think it is what is needed here. I could be wrong though as I haven't seen the tutorial in question. We can just hope for DrGeep to make a Face Room primer soon :o)

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA

with service release 3 poser 5 face room textures can be at least 1000 x 1000 pixels. A tip for the face room which I have found successful is to only fix the face using the front picture, when you change the side picture it can distort the eyes and so on. You can use the "morph putty" to make the side view of the head the proper shape. I would recommend anyone who hasn`t downloaded sr3 to do it now, it fixes a few problems in poser 5 and it is free at www.curiouslabs.com It also has some new things for p5, the probelight and the atmosphere effect.
Heh I DO have SR3.. I just stopped using the face room long before that G Perhaps I should give it a try once again then :o) But yeah, if you don't have SR3, that is a MUSTHAVE!

ROFL!!! Yeah I've been busy behind the scenes here. Actually, by the time I add all of the examples of the morphs that are in the face sculpting window, it's up to 50-something pages. I am reshooting the screenshots that go through aligning the feature points to the photos ... but I have to work tonight as well as Saturday and Sunday nights (ick). But perhaps what I can do is post sections as PDF files on my web site somewhere. Geep, no reason why you can't also do the face room as well. 8-)
Okay.......think that maybe I misunderstood the question. Sorry if I gave any wrong information. I will learn this program as time goes by. I figured out quite a bit last night just fumbling around in it. Thanks for all of your help when I do post questions. You all are very supportive of us newbies. A BIG THANKS GOES OUT TO YOU!!!

If you are serious about doing faces, try the link.Poser 5's Face Room really doesn't do the job adequately.
The biggest problem with Singular Inversion's FaceGen software is the "usual" problem: the price.
The facegen program IS the same one used in poser 5.
The P5 Face Room uses "FaceGen technology".
But the Face Room has nowhere near the capability of the full $500.00 to $1000.00 FaceGen software packages.
Wbido, there's a couple of ways to save characters you make in the face room. You can export the shaped head as a morph target (using the standard Poser obj export function), or inside the face room itself, you can click on "Spawn morph target." As for the texture, that can be saved by clicking on the little page icon to the right of where the texture is showing at the bottom of the face room window. You'll get a box that asks you if the texture is for the male or female P5 fig, then you can save the texture map out and reapply it any time you want. You can also just save the whole scene as a PZ3, and that'll keep your shaped face room head and texture. I just put an image using Don and the face room up in my gallery. I use the face room a lot; I like to have characters that don't look like the standard Vickis or Mikes. It takes a little practice to get the hang of using it, but it's a great tool.
First let me begin by thanking everyone that responded. Two days ago I was working on a assignment for school (Working on my Doctorate with NSU) and I decided that I wanted to try something different. I wanted to use Poser and Mimic ( a lip syncing program) to basically do a lesson versus using boring, old Power point. I decided that I was going to take a picture of myself and imported into Face room and take the figure and apply the Mimic program to do my lesson. However, that was easier said than done. I found a few tutorials on using the face room however, these were not comprehensive enough. I then decided to leave a message to about 100 people that were online on Renderosity. I was shocked that about 95% did not use Poser, or did not know how to use the face room. However, CarolSassy: suggested that I leave a message on the forum which I did which led to this. I would like to thank Silly Sue 1 I have taken note of your advice, Ernyoka1 I will look in the free stuff area. Xantor I downloaded Service release 3, Thank you. Geep there is never enough tutorials. Especially for dummies like me, so go ahead and get started on yours. Fls13 I will take your advice after all my face I mean my pic needs a lot of fixing up. LOL. Deecey, I am looking forward to getting your tutorial and yes, it sounds comprehensive enough. Xenophonz, I looked at Facegen and yes you are right its expensive and it says that it cant be used with poser 5. Poseur I will look at that tutorial maybe tonight, maybe not, its already 12.20 am and I have not done my homework yet. Fauve, I cant wait to try what youve written.

Actually, it can. You just can't import the models directly.
To create a FaceGen head, and tack it onto a Poser figure -- takes some effort and has a steep learning curve.
But -- one can achieve spectacular results. I've seen it done.
A quote from the Singular Inversions website FAQ section:
*Is FaceGen compatible with Poser ?
FaceGen Modeller exports to OBJ which is supported by Poser. In addition, Poser 5 contains FaceGen data in the face room. However the Customizer and PhotoFit products will not work directly with Poser 5, and Poser 5 cannot read FG files.*
So, one can create a head in FaceGen, and export it into Poser. But Poser cannot read native FaceGen format files.
They have plug-ins for some higher end apps such as 3DS and Maya.
But, admittedly, the whole thing is rather involved.
Like I said before....this is for someone that wants to go the whole route for a face modeller.
The golden rule with the face room appears to be, use the best pictures you can in the first place - ie at the right angles etc. Secondly move the points very slowly! It is easy to end up with a troll. I have had reasonable success so far (see my William 'Spike' Don picture and self-portrait in the gallery - not great works of art but getting away from default Don and Judy).

Hi, I am novice with Poser 5. I am looking for a comprehensive face room tutorial. I found a couple however, they do not walk me through in a sequantial manner from start to finish. I am having problems aligning my picture with the model. When I try to make corrections I some how keep messing it up. The model does not resemble anyone I know. I have not figuired out how to save the model either. I am sending a SOS. Lastly, I found a nice tutorial but it calls for a wireframe male model model. Where can I find a free wireframe model? Thank you in advance for your help. Willie
