Subject: Mixing a color with a texture map? (Have I missed something?)

Ok, I'm importing the figure seen here into Bryce (victoria 3). In Poser she's got a texture map in normal skin tones, and then a blue color over it. I've gotten her texture set up in Bryce (image at right) with transparency, but I can figure out how to put in the blue... :)

Here's what I've done in the past. Basically used abc texture blending to get the effect. If you don't know, using textures A and B will blend based on altitude. Using A B and C will blend A and B based on the alpha from C. So texture slot A is the body texture, slot B is blue (procedural or picture), and slot C is gray copied into the alpha channel (the level of gray 0 - 255, determines the transparency level) Does that make any sense? I just thought of a way without using the ABC method, I'll check it out and see if it works.

You'll also want to move your bump map to the second slot of the first texture. (could use a seperate texture, but why?) Color values are pulled from the first slot, numeric valued from the grey level of the second slot. There's a tut somewhere with a relly nice graphic explaining this, anyone have the link handy?

You could also just put a colored layer over the original texture with an image editor and use that in Bryce. Could even use the colored one in the diffuse chanel and the original in the ambience channel. If you wanted to experiment.

Xenic's ABC method works well. He used a jpeg texture in the "C" channel to drive the level of blue. If you want more control over the level, you can also use native bryce. Basically you use the DTE to create your own texture for the C channel, and use the Sine filter to adjust the aplha color from any level of white to black.

Could have done that but the DTE was giving me a hard time that day so I avoided it. Can also use the DTE to get 'uneven saturation' of the blue.

arcady, what version of Poser are you using? If it's 5, I've noticed that some textures don't import correctly into Bryce if you have special nodes from P5's material room connected. You may be missing a second texture (the blue skin) from the material room. If this is the case, you would need to import it via Leo in Bryce. Just a thought but the above ideas should work as well.

I wound just take my tex template into Photopaint and apply a new layer at 50 percent opacity, then fill with blue, flatten and save.

Well it seems to have worked, though I had to use a bitmap for the alpha channel rather than the DTE. I couldn't get the DTE to do anything but make the 'B' channel fully overwrite the 'A'. I did this up last night, but I'm thinking of putting her in a completely different scene now... :p

B channel will combine with A channel with altitude, unless there's something in C channel to modify the combination....just fyi

Yeah, the first time I put a 'B' and 'A' in thee together I kept wondering why she went back to flesh tones by the time it reached her feet. It took me almost three hours to make a DTE 'B' channel that was just a solid color too... It kept putting lines and squiggles in there... :p

It took me almost three hours to make a DTE..<< I feel for ya. The DTE has a zillion different settings. I tested my ABC set up on a poser figure and it worked fine. I noticed that Bryce has an "export" button for it's textures, so I should be able to export the C channel texture. You're welcome to it if you want.
