Subject: M3 to 2 and Morphs

Help? I have to use M3 to M2 but when I try to add colour to the figure the face goes blue. To try to fix this I've tried various morphs for M3 but now the face has some strange blemishes. So I need to know how to do two things - a) how to give the whole figure a uniform skin texture, and b) how to remove the morphs I've applied to the figure... Please help?

  1. Go to the Surfaces palette, click the tiangle button at top-right and select Show surface list (if it isn't already selected), click on the first item in the list under Mike 3 to Mike 2 (or whatever the figure is called in your scene), shift-click on the last item. In the Diffuse section of the platte, click the texture name (if there is one) and select None from the list, click the colour-chip (probably showing a cross-hatch pattern since you have multiple materials selected) and use the colour selector to pick the colour you want. Or use a Mat file if there is one for the colour you want, or if you are applying a texture. 2. Go to !M3 All morphs REM in the Pose library and double click the !All head item.

I did all that... but he still looks damaged... see pic^^^ Also, he's now blind. I was trying to get his skin tone to look a little like the girl behind him. But now I'd be a little happy if I could just get his face to look similar to the rest of his body. Help?

It looks like you applied a "MAT" pose to him. M2 MAT files won't work on M3 to M2, because they are UV Mapped differently. There are some excellent free textures for him in the Poser free stuff, as well as in the Christmas giveaway. Or, you could remove the textures manually, and try to make a skin shader (although, there are quite a few good skin shaders in the Misc. free stuff that are designed specifically for DAZ|Studio that are worth looking into ;) ).

The M3 to M2 option is an alernate .cr2 file that adds and applies a full body morph to the M3 obj mesh. The morph makes M3's body like the old M2 body. But since its still using the M3 .obj mesh it has to use M3 textures.

"Or, you could remove the textures manually," Isn't that what RHaseltine just told me how to do in his message above? The one that didn't work? If not, then I have no idea how to remove anything "manually" or otherwise come to that. I wish there was an "UNDO" button in Daz. "and try to make a skin shader" (cries pitifully into a cup of lukewarm coffee) I don't even know what a skin shader IS, much less how to MAKE one... is it difficult? So I shouldn't use M2 textures at all! AHA!!! Okay thanks, I'll have to delete the whole figure and start again from scratch then, thanks... At least I know where I am and why... All this is just because there are no sci-fi suits for M3, thus the need for an M2 body. (sigh) Thanks to all...

Um, just one thing... how do I save an entire figure, plus all his clothes and equipment as well as his pose, but without the thing I've posed him around? I need to get him into Bryce... help?

There are 2 free M3 character sets [here](http://www.renderosity.com/index.ez?viewStory=12459) at the Holiday Giveaway, and if you search in the Free Stuff area for M3 or Michael 3, you'll get lots of results for free character sets. You'll apply them in the same way as you applied the MAT above. As for removing the texture manually, what you do is go into your Surfaces Pallette, and find where thet texture maps are. to remove the texture, you'll click on the texture name, and click "None". That will remove the texture from the figure. There are some really good skin shaders in the Misc. Free stuff area that are specifically for DAZ|Studio, as well ;). To make a "shader", basically, you use the settings in the "Surface" Palette to colour the figure. You'll want to use the "Advanced" tab, as that gives you many more options. I have a mini-tutorial in the ODF Magazine, Ephimeris, on shaders, but they're not skin shaders. It follows a similar principal, and is basically intended to get the reader experimenting, rather than a step by step to get a certain look. http://ephemeris.oddditty.biz/December/13.htm

D|S does have an undo function, in the Edit menu (or just press cmd/ctrl-z). It enables you to go back several steps, depending on how much memory you have, but doesn't persist between sessions. To export just part of a scene to Bryce, click the eye icon next to the things you don't want to include in the Scene palette (or cmd/ctrl-click to select them all, and then click the Visible button in the Parameters palette): invisible items aren't exported. Click the eye or the Visible button a second time to bring the items back.

In Pose folder there should be a a MAT folder with the name something like !MAT M3. In this folder there are 2 MAT files, one to set M3 back to his default colors and one to set him to all white.

jestmart, Yes... but I've already gone back to the beginning with him, re-dressed and re-posed him - now I'm just hoping for a decent skin colour for him. Something not so pale... or so pink looking.
