To clarify... this has been happening on V3 and Aiko 3 as well and it's not just a Miki thing... OT I quite like Miki! She's so fine, she's so fine she blows my mind, HEY MIKI! HEY MIKI!! LOL!! Sorry! I'm stuck in the 80's!!

The manual helps, however, I doubt it is updated properly...this has been a small issue. It does have some poser tips in transposer.pdf and I think the other one. The change in 5.03 added this as part of the GI transparency issues that had been happening, then they corrected the overlighting in 5.04 When you don't use GI you obviously don't need the GI option (it will be greyed out).
No need to think outside the box....

Yes we added the "Light through Transparency" option for the GI in 5.0.3. The reason is that we had fix the alpha channel for the GI and that in some cases it can lead to extremely long rendering time without any real benefit. (Try rendering trees with Alpha masked leaves and global illumination, each rays for indirect lighting can go through thousands of leaves...) So I decided to turn it off by default to keep the fast rendering.
