Subject: Vista Sucks

Content Advisory! This message contains profanity, violence

It is a big piece of dung. It's total crap. Never go near it. It will change your life for the worst.  I’ve had it two months and I’ve aged 10 years. People are asking me what’s wrong. Vista is what’s wrong, every freakin time I turn it on.  I tried to change the name of a folder I had created earlier, and it denied me access to do so.  Told me that I needed  permission to do so, and of course declined to tell me how to get permission to change the name of my own damn folder. And if you want to delete something, you better pack your lunch.  Window after window come up and tells you someone is trying to use the computer, and of course it's just me.  It's the biggest ton of crap that's ever been thrust on the consumer.   Even God would look the other way on that one. And any software you have already?  Forget it. Even my web cam is not compatible with Vista.  You can't use your ipod with Vista (read a lot of them have been damaged).  You can’t do anything with Vista. And then a window comes up from time to time saying Windows Explorer is shutting down, and it doesn't know why. It takes a FULL gig of RAM just to operate Vista.  You need a minimum of 2 gigs on your computer just to function. But it does have a temperature setting on my desktop. Problem is, the temp is usually wrong. . I'm in the market for a Mac.  Those Apple commercials on TV are way too easy on Vista. You have no idea how frustrating it is when you can't even find what you're looking for, and that damn window comes up and tells you you don't have access to whatever it is you want.  Says you must have permission first.  From who?  Why??? Everytime you do anything you have to go through several windows! “Vista has determined that someone is trying to do such ‘n such. Should Vista allow?  Then when you click “hell yes” it says, Continue?  Permission allowed?  Sometimes it’s not worth trying.  . I know this note will accomplish nothing, other than people thinking I’m crazy, but trying to do basic shyte with Vista will make ANYONE crazy! It was either rant here or kill myself. And I still have the urge to kill myself anyway, but I'm sure Vista would probably tell me that I need permission first. Vista can go to hell   Vista is worse than worthless.  Far worse.  This is only the tip of the iceberg. There. I'm through.  marshall

when i saw xp for the first time i had a similar yet milder attack of "omg do you think i am dumb mr gates"?  the control panel for instance was in "categorised view" and if i wanted to access C:/program files/ it would remind me that i was accessing the program files and if i did anything to the files in there i could mess things up... no s*** sherlock!

I feel ya... although maybe you should have just stuck with what isnt broken and have that extra 800mb of ram or so for doing other things with 😉

I for one wont be updating to vista until microsoft pulls the plug on xp support...

Attached Link: Mac ad (youtube)

I am sorry to here about your issues with Vista. Wish I could help. Have you ever seen the "security" Mac ad? I could only find it on youtube. I have been using Macs since I was 2 and have always loved it. You should have read user comments on Vista before buying it. Oh well, now you have an excuse to switch 😄 . If you switch, I shall welcome you with open arms (human arms).

Question the question. Answer the question. Question the answer...

I wish I knew what I was gonna say :oP

Dear Troubled User

Sounds like Vista is working perfectly to me.
Had you thought about adjusting the UAC settings ?
Go to*:     Start > Help & Support > UAC Settings*

Perhaps your expectations were that it would be Windows XP,
Vista is so much more than that.

Yours,
A Happy Vista User

Don't you just love it when just as you are about to heave the latest bit of technological piece of gadgetry out or the window some clever clogs like Onslow comes along and points out what seems to be a simple solution :-)

Thank god for people like Onslow or we would all go back to the caves and lead a simple life uncomplicated by the latest must have invention.

Hmmm I  am waiting until I rebuild my PC I tand to find that new OS tend to be more reliable on a machine that has no old programmes that may not work so well... Did you have an upgrade version ?

I appreciate the responses from all of you. I think I just needed to let off some steam, and God knows Microsoft doesn’t specialize in customer feedback. And yes, I’ve seen the Mac ads on youtube; I still say they are too kind.  And I don’t see how anybody can say they are a happy vista user. No matter what you do these damn windows come up asking if you should “allow” whatever function to happen, and you just initiated it. That’s not security. That’s a pain in the ass. And yesterday when it said I didn’t have permission to rename a folder I had previously created, well, that pushed me over the edge. I recently bought an $80 web cam, but now I discover it is not vista compatible either. They did not have to write vista to be so non-compatible with so much existing hardware. And from what I’ve read I’m not the only one having these problems. It's total crap. I just say stay away from it until they take their sweet time in creating the service packs necessary to keep it from being a real hindrance to your computer work, which is exactly what it is. Of course by that time they’ll come out with something else redefining the meaning of user unfriendly!  Thanks all.  marshall

On a further note - a friend of mine is working on her dissertation and was having troubles transfering files from xp (uni computers) to vista (her laptop), seems there are even Word compatability issues from what she tells me... that or user error (which i thought was one of the main focus points for creating vista - so obviously they failed there then 😉)

Marshall - adjusting your settings for UAC *[User  Account Control] * will stop the messages you are getting. Vista is defaulting to a network setting and has assigned new users with the lowest grade securirty clearance until advised otherwise by the system administrator,  Either: switch off UAC if the machine is not networked and you are the only user,  assign your user name with a higher level authority, or log in as administrator.

Richard - The issue you describe with MS Word is not a Vista problem.  MS Word 2007 saves by default in a new format *.docx this format is not backwards compatible so use save options to save documents as a * .doc file so that it can be read by older versions of Word.

LOL

It looks almost good enough to have a digital TV card Kort, probably best not though 'cos it would be better to have more than one internal hard drive for recording your favourite TV.

I have a friend who writes install packs for his companies software.  He has started a Vista Hate club.  He agrees with you it's the worst software ever! I have not had the misfortune of using Vista yet and what you and he says I think I will keep XP or change to Linix

Yeah - I remember ME - what a pile of crap!

I've got 3 machines running XP and I'm not getting anything new until I HAVE to. By then there should be some patches, and updated drivers for the software I use. A brand new OS always scares me, so I wait a while for the dust to settle.

lol, vista has recently been dubbed ME2

Also Dell have pulled the plug on Vista and are now offering XP with new pcs again. Shows how much of an arse vista is if one of the biggest pc manufacturers in the world are veering away from it.

thundering1 ( ) posted Fri, 27 April 2007 at 8:38 AM · edited Fri, 27 April 2007 at 8:39 AM

Ha - that's funny!

Yeah, while I realize that sometimes you need to kick people into moving forward with technology, they didn't make the OS open to software and hardware manufacturers before releasing it to the public (at least, for very long) - so there are not nearly as many drivers for current "stuff" as there should be.

It'll take a a little while, but folks will catch up - but I'm not spending a dime for a new PC for at least another 9 months.

Has anyone told Dell they're not offering Windows Vista as default choice on new pc's ?  see above link.

There is always plenty of 'Luddite' talk about all new technical launches. It is always the ones who say they would not try it or use it are the most vociferous in their condemnation it seems to me.  I wonder how they know it is so bad ?

My wife is a programmer - one rule of thumb she and her friends all say is they're hesitant to buy anything with "1.0" as it's name.
I don't hate new technology at ALL - I just wanna hear from others that bugs have been addressed (they don't have to be fixed entirely, just at least attempts to mend) before I spend the money.
