THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: AgentSmith's Bryce 7 Beta Testing Art Dump

AgentSmith ( ) posted Wed, 27 January 2010 at 1:04 AM · edited Sat, 23 November 2024 at 6:46 PM

As time goes on, (until Bryce 7 is finalized and released to the public) I will use this thread to post my Bryce 7 Beta renders. They might be polished eyecandy or ugly workhorses, but I'll throw it all in here whenever I make something new. (once every couple days)

If the Presets (objects, materials, skies, etc) that are shown in here do not end up coming installed along with Bryce 7, they will either be bundled up later for retail and/or I'll also absolutely make sure to provide some for free downloads.

Everything I will be posting will be raw renders with no post-work, except for a signature. Also, each image will have a link provided to the much larger (original) render, which will be around 1600x1000.

Thanks, enjoy and here we go....

Just trying out some new Terrain Materials I created. I like the middle part but, the top and lower parts need more tweaking, more realism.

Working on some new cloud presets. Starter scenes that will hopefully take out some of the guesswork on complex clouds.

WOW, looking great to me!

Yes Kirk, the clouds do look better than in prior releases. That terrain render looks very inviting in an adventurous, Joules Vernian kind of way.

Thanks everybody.  ;o)

Bryce clouds have always been problematic due to so many variables in not only the DTE but with scaling. Basically, there are SO many things to juggle to get to a nice looking level. So, I am creating complete cloud scenefiles that are ready to go, so all you will need to do is either open one of my cloud scenes and build up from there or use the "Merge" action to bring in the complete cloud scene as an environment to one of your own pre-existing scenes.

AS,
I don't want to deviate from the intended purpose for this thread so feel free to answer or not.  Is B7 handling the sky differently or are you just providing presets as starting point in sky lab and new volume mats?  How does Terragen produce skies differently from Bryce that gives it  a decided edge on cloud production, imho?

(edit) I re-read your post and realized you already answered question 1.  (you are providing scene files for content)  But, that leads to another question are Daz, you or foleypro accepting like scene file same as mats for consideration for inclusion as content?

AgentSmith ( ) posted Wed, 27 January 2010 at 9:18 PM

Not deviating at all.  ;o)

I believe that Terragen gives its users an easier path to making good looking clouds, more quickly. The last time I used Terragen (quite a while ago) the cloud making part of the program made clouds, it didn't try to be any kind of Material like Bryce's DTE does. That's not a slight on either program, Bryce's DTE being a much more complex beast, it just takes longer to find good combination's to emulate clouds.

So, to hopefully help other Bryce users, I am going to try to give them some decent "platforms" in which to give them a faster start to better looking clouds. Hopefully they themselves will build upon that, and keep going on and on until there is much greater cloud presets by all these people, everywhere.

So, yes...I am providing presets as starting point in sky lab and new volume mats. But,as I will be using and testing beta versions beyond what the public has, any other info on Bryce 7's abilities, one way or another I cannot comment on, sorry.

Yes, in fact Foleypro might have posted in here about that, somewhere. If not, contact either of them.*

When beta testing I am initially trying to see if Bryce renders incorrectly or to see if I can break it. We will usually create some boring looking scenes that test technical aspects. This scene is cooler looking, but it really is just a test scene.

In this scene, other than seeing if it rendered correctly with; hdri, transparencies, reflections, refractions and light gels, I used large res images to build the scene entirely out of Terrains.

Nothing broke.  ;o)

How does the terrain export work? I tried building  things out of terrains in 6.1. It's easy to push the polys up and crash the exporter. I booleaned a cave out halfway up a mountain. When I exported the cave shifted positions to the bottom of the mountain. Things I booleaned out of terrains always ended up in a different location in the export.

AgentSmith ( ) posted Wed, 03 February 2010 at 8:24 PM

Yeah, to be be able to export out a Terrain that has a cave or overhang of any kind, Bryce will need to be able to convert (Collapse) that Terrain into a plain mesh, such as it does now with boolean objects, before it could be exported out successfully.

(In addition, the Boolean Collapse, btw, could also use a lot of help, imho)
