Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 29 7:57 am)
I like dynamic clothes but only if they have thickness and pockets, beltloops and modelled seams etc.

I aim to update it about once a month. Oh, and it's free!
I have to say that apart from the edges, that looks totally real!!!

I did scale all the textures down. even tho I'd like the lace to be a little higher def, it serves it's purpose. I may include the 4096 texture in a separate, add-on zip so people can download them if they want to use them. And as for Egyptian, I did that one Egyptian dress that's in my freebies. I'm not sure if you saw that or not from that other thread, that kind of brought about all this clothes making.

I think seams are what dynamic clothing makers find most difficult.
the material always looks like it's thin and has been cut with scissors.

Not necessarily. Just takes a different approach. :)
I use two different methods for my clothes. For hires clothes I make some physical seams in the mesh, but only the seams that turn 'inwards', like the side of a shirt. For edges and thicker seams, I use displacement maps, which works really well for thicker fabric too.
For constrained groups where the model stays put, like seams for underwear, I make real 3d seams too, works fine.
looking forward top seeing what u have come up with.

Well I've been seeing what I can do about adding stitches. I'm still new so I'm learning as I go along here. I'm relly hoping this comes out really goo so I can make it my 1st MP clothing item. I've asked ForbiddenWhispers to help with making a few textures, as she make beautiful textures, so it should have plenty of options. It'll be a 2 dress pack, 1 with and 1 without ruffles. I am still trying to come up with a reasonable price for it, I want people to not have to wait for a big sale to be able to afford it. But anyways, here's what I've got on the texture so far. funny I should be reading this thread. I am scouring the poser shops to find a nice dynamic men's T to put on V4 at the moment after she gets out of the shower. As she's at M4's house and doesn't have her own clothes.
There was a very nice T that maybe acadia was making that had realistic thickened short sleeves and a very nice texture. I can't find it though.

BionicRooster:
Very nice dress.
* "Can we include the robe idea "*
How about a towel set for males and females? (Over one shoulder, around the shoulders, around the chest, around the waist, turban around the head, one to drape over anything, etc.). :)

BionicRooster:
Actually, that robe, a little more full and with a lot of bottons down the front (and an edge seam that could be painted on) would look like a Roman Catholic cassock. A white stepped collar could be part of the texture. Of course a cassock would also need sleeve cuffs. The belt (a cincture) would probably have to be separate.

Rooster It is amazing , you are going to have a lot of people after your work you have a real talent for 3D clothing, I just cannot wait for the final Robe this is so natural, the texture is quite smooth. The buttons for my animation, I only need three but I am sure the others will be easy to disguise.
Don't tell me you made this with wings!
Well, of course I made this with Wings. It's all I have right now :o)
And the buttons are modeled into the mesh, so if you'd like a version with only 3, tell me where you want them and I will make a 3 button one. The color is still only a poser diffuse color. I am going to make the real texture with front seam sometime today.

Ok it's the three buttons at the top , they have a small seem that is the join.
If you look closely you may see its a sort of L shape from the collar.
As for the wings , in 6months you learnt this? I am astonished.
Pity you're not in the UK I might have signed up for a tuition.
However some times we can take on to much , I have just got the hang of fFinal Cut Express and am trying to work with Poser, so wings I am just tagging on.
Zee little
brain cell over heating zum times!!
Quote - I think that the robe saibabameuk is wanting would be put on over the head, and thus would not need buttons all the way to its bottom seam.
This is looking very good.

Hi yes your right on over the head, however your idea for a cassock is great .
I have to say this is the most exciting thread that I have had the privilege to be part of.
It totally goes along with the philosophy that I believe in . The working family.
This is very much like the kaftans worn by both men and women around the world. An open neck, unbottoned version would add to the versatility.

I don't have any secret technique, I just load pose on last frame and run my simulation. I usually fiddle around with the cloth settings here and there, and collision depth, but I don't do anything special. Here's a link that's been a huge help to me when using dynamic clothes. It's all the cloth room settings, and their effects. I'm not sure if all of you have stumbled upon this or not, as this is not the 1st time I've posted it.

I personally don't want more dynamic clothes, because for me they're more trouble than they're worth. But I know others feel differently, so to each his own. As long as conforming doesn't go away, the more variety the merrier. I wonder if there's some other category on the horizon that we haven't thought about.
The really good dynamic clothes I saw were made by LaurieA. I don't know what happened to them though. She actually had thickness to the edges and folds of cloth at the ends of the sleeves.
Ice boy has made some nice looking clothes too but he doesn't have much thickness to the edges of his cloth as yet.

I can't count how many times I've conformed something, only to find poke thru issues and have to fiddle with dials until I get it fixed. I just see dynamic clothes as a full solution to most my clothing probems, run the cloth sim, and I'm done. But like you said, to each his own. And Conforming clothes outnumber dynamics by far due to many people being intimidate by the cloth room. Conforming will never go away, I was just wanting to bring the numbers up to some well made dynamics. They look good, and the content creators can spend the time they would have spent rigging, into making their product that much better! And considering the price that a lot of clothes sell for, the time spent rigging seems like "lost time" when it comes to making money. It takes a lot of work to rig conforming clothes correctly, and then they're expected to sell items cheap due to the fierce market here. Do some looking around, Rendo is by far one of, if not THE cheapest site for buying 3D content. I'm not greedy, it's just that now that I am now making props and clothes, I see how much work goes into creating content. So, I can do nothing by appraise all the content creators for their hard work and dedication.

So rather than setting the end pose on the final frame and moving to it from perhaps a neutral pose over 30 frames, you instead just load the end pose at frame 30? What is the figure doing in the preceeding frames?
Probably not understanding fully. Could you give a brief outline of what you do to get the pose and cloth simulation for your examples - the only examples I've done have followed the guide where you get the figure moving around and/or add other figures to push the cloth in the directions you want etc.
Yup, frame 1, I make no changes. I load the character and clothes, and leave frame 1 alone after that. Then I go to frame 30, and pose the character. In the cloth sim, Poser fills in the gaps and will move the figure from Pose (A) to Pose (B) and the clothes will follow along. It's easier then a lot of people think.

Thank you CW :o) I'm trying.
Here's the robe now. I redid the uvmapping and made a new texture. Still have a little more to do on the texture, but it's getting close to completion.
Sorry, a little "morning" humor here.... hehehe

Yep, that and if your character has a special morph, like muscles or curves or something else, the clothing will naturally form around that too. :) I always include tutorial for this when I sell something. And I agree, it's very easy once you get a hang of it.

Here's that nightie / dress an 3 textures I made for it so far. I also added ruffles to the mesh, I will post pics of that as soon as I render them.
