Quote - I vaguely recall hearing the ‘be your own God’ thing associated with Mormonism, but a quick check shows that it is not part of official doctrine. If you start getting into details about the different states of heaven etc. I can imagine a few people coming to such a conclusion. ...

Well look at it this way:

According to Mormons we are all God's "spirit children". God has a wife and a physical existence. They have procreated and created all the human souls. Every time a child is born on Earth, a spirit inhabits its body - a spirit that pre-existed and was created by the procreation of "God" and his wife.

After the final Judgment the best of the best married male Mormons  are reunited with their wive(s) and then can procreate, creating their own spirit children.

Okay, so where does that lead?

That leads to the inevitable conclusion that those people have in a very real sense become gods. And it strongly implies that "God" was once just a regular person.

It is not a misinterpretation. It may not be widely taught or be "official" doctrine that they explicitly say "you will become a god", but it IS the ultimate goal and belief.

...

The problem with absolute statements is that a lot of the time, they're wrong.

There is no doctrine, or teaching, that there is a Heavenly Mother in the LDS church.  Many believe so, simply because it makes logical sense, but that is not a teaching held by the church.  And there are literally thousands of opinions on the logistics behind "spiritual children".

Making absolute statements about viewpoints which one does not personally hold is dangerous ground to tread.  It would be no different than saying all Atheists are amoral.  No different than saying all Agnostics are really Atheists who don't want to offend their mothers.  No different than saying all Pagans worship Satan.  And, saying it like "Of course they believe in this thing I'm talking about right now.  They just don't come out and say it." is right up there with "Of course all homosexuals are child molesters.  Some just hide it better."  The fact that the statement isn't true on the whole isn't the point.  It's the fact that some people will see it as fact and never question it, because they respect the viewpoint of the one presenting it.  THAT is why you definitely want to tread lightly when posting about a POV that is not your own.  It may be your opinion that these things happen, but that doesn't make them true for all.

I was wisked up into a spaceship which was a magificent orb shape...kind of shimmering with a pearlescent colour...with very pastel lights around itself. It was just hovering above me when a door opened near the outer edge and a beam came down, right at me. I was frozen, couldn't run even if I wanted to...it was worse than one of those dreams where you run in slow motion...except I couldn't run. My breath was lodged in my throat and my heart had stopped...I'm sure of it.

When I became awake, I was seated in a bed of air... and when my eyes cleared there was a being before me...humanoid shape but somwhat milky, almost translucent.

He raised his right hand upward, which was more of a shape than actually with fingers ... and motioned towards the heavens. He then made a gesture as to encompass all of space and everything around us. He then gazed at me deeply...it was a penetrating gaze, as if he was probing right into my mind. ll of a sudden things were moving on its eyes...like watching a TV..it was ideas and memories from my mind, my dreams, my experiences, whisking right before me.

All of a sudden it spoke, not as in speech, but as in thoughts going into my head. He explained that they have been watching us and probing us for centuries. We had not achieved the simple truths in life. We have overlooked the obvious. That we are all here on this planet called Earth and are to live in harmony with one another and all creatures. He said there was one of them, whome we knew, that attempted to show us the way, but we ignored his words. There were others as well, and we have ignored them. Its a simple thing, harmony, the ocncept is love.

And I awoke.

In this thread the past few days I've retired from being a contributer, content to be a reader.

This has continued to be interesting, educational, and sometimes funny. I won't backtrack to "original sin" and Aliens since I already put in my time on that one way back on page 10.

As for "after-life", I can't get into Constantine's construct of projecting Roman/Greek myth onto Christianity and turning Zeus into Jehovah. White guy with a beard sitting on a very heavy golden throne suspended by water vapor, cotton wool and zero turtles just doesn't work as a being who is Everywhere at All times. By definition he is way too finite to be the Ultimate Infinite Being of Love and Creation. Needless to say, what do I know? "It might be turtles all the way down."

But what if...

another dimension were experienced when we die. A dimension not only of sight and sound but a dimension of mind. A Land of both shadow and substance, of things and ideas.

Sorry, I confused myself for a second. Forget that, I was thinking of the Twilight Zone.

What if, there is an eternal value to the sum of what we call ourselves that remains after we let go of our body? And that, while we no longer have the system available to perceive this earthly world we become aware of another dimension that has always been here in a different phase of time/space.

Merged with the Universe in a sea of nuetrinos  we might feel reunited with the source of all "things" if there was a consciousness to the Universe. And if the Universe had a consciousness that absorbed the being-self of everyone who ever lived then you might call that God. But if it turned out that was true but it wasn't God, I still wouldn't want to bad mouth it right away, being new to the Dimension and all.

I have to ask , what makes you think the aliens would have any concept of religion at all?  We could tell them about our religions and they may just stare at us at us and never get it.  Same with music, there is nothing about it that makes it universal that all intelligent life will understand it.

Also think of this in reverse too.  What if the aliens started asking us about a strange concept that we just cannot understand at all.  Then we figure out that they think we should all be condemned for not understanding what they think is so universal and dear to them.

"God made man in his own image" and I've never seen an alien

Look into the work of Ken Klein.

A study of the Hebrew text of the original bible does not say God made man in his own image. Surprisingly enough its says "Let us make man in our image" HMMMM, now what could that possibly mean...The Sumerians had a good idea of what that meant in the creation tablets..shocking stuff there.

The Co-Creators that made us in they're image, who came down in the wheels within wheels(as discribed in the book of Ezekiel) are awaiting a conciousness shift on a mass scale to be Universal Lawfully allowed to interact with us in the 4th dimension. The conciousness shift is in motion and channellers are predicting the return of our creator Gods in 2011. I believe this explanation, and the more you look into it the more real it becomes.

" who is Jesus then"

From what Ive heard recently, Jesus was from a prominent hebrew family and the learned the methods of energy transmutaion where though is made into matter. he was teaching the people in his community these methods and practices which empowered them as co-creators and threatened the reign of the Roman catholic control.

He was flogged in the streets and his sister was crucified. He was a man who achieved a conciousness connection with the ascension grid of the 5th dimension, and was built up to an iconic unachievable level that man cannot identify with, as a way to destroy his teachings through the ultimate fame. Read the Dead Sea scrolls to know the true teachings of Jasua ( or Jesus). Its not what is in the King James Bible.

"well, i can believe the spinning wheel driving co-creators before the fact there is one god over all this"

Well, its kind of both from what I can gather. God is a collective being operating on the highest deminsional frequency of pure unconditional love.  Channelled messages from star beings say that not even they have the capacity to fully understand what the source creator is or how it functions as they are on a path of spiritual growth as well. They are just a few steps ahead of us in the grand vision of source unity.

The work of Ken Klein is fantastic. it points out some misunderstood concepts in religion. one fascinating verse in the hebrew bible states the "we are to become the planters of the heavens", co-creators in the emerging universe to come. Working in harmony with the ones driving the wheels that planted us. Its level 2 of our exisence, or phaze 1 beings in the Galactic Federation of Light.

LLoyed Pye is another one who has pointed out all of the genetic failures in the Human Gnome coding clearly showing evidence of manipulation. The owner of the Star Child Skull - recent DNA tests show its Extra Terrestrial material or of elements not found in our solar system.

Ive been researching this stuff for the past 3 years obsessively. Some believe this is a grand deception by the shadow government illuminati to eliminate 80% of the world's population..BS... I have first hand experience from Mt. Shasta where I photographed light ships parked on the side of the Mountain and talked with advanced DNA (human looking, but weren't human by any measure) beings.

There are good humans and there are bad ones.  Humanity though as a whole often times gets millions of its own people killed whenever liberals strive for INGSOC.  People that envy China and Russia and North Korea and Iran and nearly all of the Middle East and most of Africa are all on the wrong side of history.  Union and government run schools have a lot to do with this problem.

It's funny how the secularists go after christians and do everything they can to remove God from everything.  Yet whenever there's the chance to play God, secularists are always the first in line to do so.
