I know I am probably doubling up on forums and I will contact whoever and apologize or ask them to take the other one down (sorry I am not sure how all this works) Anyway I just wanted some advice if anyone has any. I am doing water.. wait that sounds wrong, I mean I trying to render water in Poser 8 on a Mac if that makes any difference, and I have the concept right it is just I can't get the settings right. I have done a render, which is above, so if anyone has some advice on this, please let me know. Oh, and I do apologize if this topic has been posted a zillion times by other people.. which it probably has... don't hit me lol

Oh by the way, I was following advice given in another forum topic (http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showthread.php message_id=2811816&ebot_calc_page#message_2811816), but I tweaked it a little. The settings are pretty much the same only the Diffuse Color is not black because it was far too dark when I did that, and I tweaked the Bump and Clouds as well. I am looking for how to get rid of the.. noise for want of a better word. I mean I want it wavy so to speak but as you can see there is... static or something. Sorry, these aren't technical terms, but you know what I mean :)

Not that anyone is responding but I changed the clouds to turbulence and got this result! Looking a heap better to me :) I know it looks like a square thing in terms of the shoreline but in general, definitely better than before :)

SerpentFire, you really should do a search for bagginsbill's various posts on water shaders and start off with exactly the shaders he posted.

Also handy if you post a screenshot of your shader setup so we can see what you're doing.

I don't know what the link in your first post was about, but it doesn't work.

I did start off with the EXACT shaders he posted in that link. But his scene did not really have a background so I had to tweak it. I am using the same ones again except that I just changed the color of the Diffuse Color and I also put Turbulence instead of clouds. I reattached the link to the Forum I used.

The second one is ok, but the first one the water was too.. busy, like static on a television or something.

I'm using a shader called BBs water but it seems way more complicated than the one in Good Water thread. I can't track it down in my downloads, BBs page or a forum search. Is it one of yours BB?

Maybe it depends on what kind of water you are trying to achieve ??

SerpentineFire, have you tried scaling your water prop to get the desired wave activity? I seem to remember having to have a v large object.

Attached render using material above

Yes it was big, that looks good how would you get a more transparent look to that though?

ypvs ( ) posted Fri, 22 July 2011 at 4:28 AM

SF

Change the transparency in the main Posersurface node. Same with diffuse colour to get bath/river/sea water.

Got a node plugged into Displacemnet so don't forget to enable this in your render settings. Also needs a sky dome for reflections.

Was what the original object? I mean what did you use in order to make the water? Like I used the square.. Is that a square too?

Material was applied to the Poser 8 Hi-Res Square, Z-Scale and X-Scale set to 1000%. Changing the x-scale and z-scale in the Fractal Sum node changes the distance between the ripples. I'm not v good with nodes so a better explaination from an expert would be appreciated. Can this be used as a ripple and combined with another node to create the bigger waves. Maybe it easier to morph the square prop? More help needed!

Looks great to me! I use Magic Mirror's water. I bought it here. Then I change the diffuse color to the color of water I want and that's it.

That sounds  logical, and I was actually wondering the same thing. Would be nice to be able to create something akin to a rough sea. I am sure BagginsBill would be able to say, he seems to be the guru on this sort of thing :) Also he might be able to suggest, or someone might be able to, how to light the water as if there are lights in the water. That was a very long winded way to ask that LOL But say for instance you wanted to create a swimming pool and it was going to be a night time scene, do you simply place a light under the surface of the water or is there a better way? I think I may be a little OT but I say things as they come into my head :)
