Not Yet.

Sounds like the next hot little Python utility will be a script that reads a figure and generates this information automatically.  [grin]

hborre ( ) posted Tue, 13 March 2012 at 10:28 AM

But there is a little script that reads the figure and returns the material zones.  However, manually assigning the shaders is a matter of personal taste and practicality.  It would be a bigger headache to undo a wrong assignment.

No it wouldn't. It's just a text file and you'd only have to change maybe one or two wrong assignments in most cases being the cornea/eye material zones.

I can't get it to work with Hiro3, but will try the DazGen3 someone listed in this thread.

Any idea what the name of the script is, or where it could be found?

figure_mats.py

It's in the same zip file as ezskin.

The script is called figure_mats.py and it's included with EZSkin. Just run it on the figure you want to make an xml for and it'll give you all the material zones. What materials you put on those zones is up to personal preference.

edit: oops I made a Snarly crosspost :P

wimvdb ( ) posted Mon, 09 April 2012 at 5:40 AM

Is it possible in the next version of EZSkin to allow for some wildcard in the obj name for the target figure?

Genesis uses a random name for its obj file in the style of "Genesis_long_random_number.obj" which is different for each export.

The material zones are almost identical to V4 except it is missing 1_EyeSocket, 1_EyeBrow and 7_EyeSurface.  If you use a material collection from V4 into genesis and choose not to add new material zones it will actually work. I use this trick now to get EZSkin to genesis (save mc of genesis to library, apply to a v4, EZskin it, save as mc and apply this to genesis). It would be nice to be able to do this directly

Snarlygribbly ( ) posted Mon, 09 April 2012 at 7:54 AM

Good idea Wim, I'll be sure to add that in.

EZSkin v2 is under development right now. Would you be interested in being a beta tester again? Testing should start in about 2 weeks.

I am unreliable, stressed out, and beta-testing a couple of other items as well.

OTOH, I'm very talented at breaking things, and can usually report the sequence by which I did it.

So, if the first paragraph doesn't disqualify me, I am at your service.  [wry smile]

If you can get those wildcards to emulate what BB has already established for VSS it would be a great asset.  If BB is ever inclined to finalize his VSSProp for Hair, a script like that could be of great benefit.

LaurieA ( ) posted Mon, 09 April 2012 at 8:11 PM

I wish we could somehow use SSS on transmapped hair...lol. Use the honey preset and add a little shine. If it would work, it would look perfect ;).

Was having trouble with the eyes, first they rendered black, so switched some of the material definitions on them, then they rendered black, so switched stuff again and then they had black patches, but I finally found a setup that rendered correctly.  Based on the names of the material zones it seems a little odd, but hey, whatever works.  Here is the corrected one:

I've released a minor update to EZSkin (v1.7.1)

The ezskin.xml file can now include one or more instances of a new tag:

d:myfoldermyxmlfolder

Obviously, replace the folder path with a real one!

EZSkin will search for the folder specified, find all the xml files that it contains and add the contents of each to its database of figures (the xml files can have any name, so long as they have an '.xml' extension).

You can have as many tags as you want.

So, it's no longer necessary to have one huge ezskin.xml file containing gadzillions of figure definitions (but you can if you want).

Thank you to Netherworks for this cool idea.

Is it at the regular download link in your forum? I've been adding the version numbers to each zip when I download them. IE: EZSkin1.7.1.zip

And Thanks! Looking forward to playing with multiple XML's.

I need to keep the name of the zip constant as it is linked to directly by some other sites.

Where in the xml file should the tag be placed? Within the , before  the first figure definition or after the last figure definiton?

Edited to correct a typo...When should be Where.

Anywhere inside the tags, so long as it's not inside another tag too!

e.g.:

pathname

... snip ...

another pathname

Obviously it would be neater to keep all the folder definitions together near the top, but it's up to you :-)

Ok little help please. I have just got around to installing this latest version.

I cannot get it to work with an external folder. Created a folder on my C: drive in a Temp Folder called 'MyEZSkinXMLfiles'

Edited the xml file to include the path C:TempMyEZSkinXMLfiles

In that folder is an xml file called Mill Cat which contains the lines as listed in the forum post above starting with

and finishing with

When I load the mill Cat and run EZSkin it gives me an error - EZSkin v1.7.1 says oops! and the tells me I have selected an unsupported figure.

Tried with UG too with the same result.

Any suggestions as to which step I have got wrong/missed? Thanks

This XML is missing the tags, so EZSkin doesn't know that the XML file is an EZSkin file

For every XML file, the script will only process any XML that is inside an pair of tags.

Rewrite the above as:

and finishing with

and it will all be fine
