Subject: Reality Render thread. A new beginning.

Tako_Yakida ( ) posted Fri, 18 May 2012 at 10:41 AM

It appears Renderosity doesn't know what to do with the subdomain and attaches it to  http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/ instead. LOL

Let's try this (and if this fails, copying and pasting into your browser address bar will work.) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tree_(data_structure)

I don't know why using a null would fail to work if you made sure it was selected in the scene tab before loading reality and then hit the focus on selection button. :(

For DoF I have used Null's before. Have not tried that in a while though.

BTW, I think you can only edit your post if it's the last post in the thread. Not sure, just the impression I get from when I can and cannot edit mine.

Regarding the DAZ Froum software, it was chosen for some tie-in to the newre or some software they are using with the new store. Choosing the best forum software was unfortunately not the driving factor.

Of course, the forum software here also has its pros and cons as well.

Or maybe there's a time delay, as I can no longer edit my previous post (or soem combination of both).

A lot of great renders in here already!! :D

Question for future multi character renders. The one I did above was difficult to to the memory suckage. Would exporting chracters as obj and re importing them make it less resource consuming?

Doubt it as they would have the same number of polygons. Reducing the texture size is a big help, especially if you have a few different character textures.

You don't need eye textures to be 3000x3000 pixels. I can get over 11 V4s into a scene by just altering the pixel sizes of certain textures, bump and spec maps.

Changing the size on disk by altering the quality doesn't help.

Reggie68 ( ) posted Sat, 19 May 2012 at 10:12 AM

If you use the collate textures option without changing the size you can manually change the sizes of the collated files before rendering by using something like Irfanview.

bobvan ( ) posted Sat, 19 May 2012 at 11:10 AM · edited Sat, 19 May 2012 at 11:10 AM

Theres other options like rendering characters individually and adding them in then working in PS... Its a bit dissapointing since 3Dlight does not suffer this kind of problem. I did try to render it in UE after it kept crashing when LUX started then realizing I can try mem conservative. I have to admit it does look better with LUX.

I get those too every so often I just use the "fill" feature in PS nice render all the same

RLSprouse ( ) posted Sat, 19 May 2012 at 12:40 PM

Thanks.  I have a couple of ideas to improve this.  First, if I add a nice bright mesh light as a Main, that should allow me to reduce the exposure which will darken the background.  It should also add more 3-dimensionality to her figure and features.  Then maybe turn on the DOF so the wall goes out of focus on the left.

Reggie68 ( ) posted Sat, 19 May 2012 at 12:47 PM

The artifact is the mesh of the skullcap and the forehead interacting. Happens a lot with Genesis and V4 Hair products.

RLSprouse ( ) posted Sat, 19 May 2012 at 12:59 PM

Thanks.  If I reduce the scale of the hair slightly will that solve it?

  ~ Russ

Reggie68 ( ) posted Sat, 19 May 2012 at 1:28 PM

Or increase to 102% may fix it. I've not really looked into it as it isn't that apparent when I have the problem so I can just clone it out.

I also use V4s more than Genesis anyway, we'll see how things go when Reality and DS4.5 start working together.

No. 8gb are simlly not enough to render such a complex scene using Lux. Reducing the size of the textures, via texture collection, is a way of decresing the memory requirements. Beyond that you need to add RAM.

Hope this helps.

Quote - Its a bit dissapointing since 3Dlight does not suffer this kind of problem. I did try to render it in UE after it kept crashing when LUX started then realizing I can try mem conservative. I have to admit it does look better with LUX.

3Delight does not render images using full light soectrum data. That is what allows you to adjust the light power and the camera exposure while rendering. 3Delight cooks the pixels to RGB and if you need to adjust anything you need to re-render the image with the next light intensities. 3Delight does not come close to thr complexity of the light and materials calculations performed by LuxRender.

Using full spectrum light data takes a lot more memory. At 8gb it's hard to keep all that geometry and textures in memory. I added the texture collection options exactly to provide a good, easy way of working around memory limitations of the rendering hardware.

Another way is to reduce the resolution size of the image. That matters too. Another option is to:

  • use the "Export only" checkbox

  • close Studio and other programs and then

  • run Lux manually to render the exported scene.

Like with any program, if you ask the computer to process more data that fits your memory, you are going to hit the RAM barrier?

Hope this helps

Bahh I bought this notebook computer less then a year ago. I cannot add RAM I already looked into it. Ho well il have to try the export option since I dont know how to reduce texture sizes.  Like I also mentioned I can always render and add characters manually like I did in this scene where I hybrided LUX rendered characters to a 3Delight scene but can do it all with LUX.  Worse comes to worse there is no law with rendering the odd scenes in 3Dlight LOL

Overall I am happy with Reality / Lux

So I've got a new image in the works, and I'm generally pleased, but it is again focusing my efforts on overall shading the texture using the Diffuse/Spec & Top Coat. options.

The short explaination is that in Studio with what appears to be an OmniFreaker Shader (this is getting set by a pose button - I'm not doing it manually), there are a large number of colours channeled into the settings. When Reality imports this, well there are less destinations, and I think it grabs the ones it can and puts them in what I trust is a well thought out/logical way.

In this case however the difference between my Studio render of the character in question and my Reality render is a mild Purple (intended) and a Cool Pink (pretty but not what I want) - the Top Coat in Reality is set at .20 and a bluish hue, I think I can get closer to the desired effect if I copy the Diffuse (where the purple is showing) into the top coat and set it to 1.0.

Does this method make sense? Is there a better one? I'd hate to be throwing away valuable shading/toning information that will provide realistic variations by virtually throwing a coat of paint over my model.

I can share images if people are curious.
