From the pic it looks like you haven't set the ignore hands option on.

The other thing you can do with this is drop back into the Pose room, go to the frame where you added the pose and move the hand or in this case the thumb a little and then run the simulation again so that it doesn't cause the problem.

Other things you can do is use some Cloth Presets:-

LINK 01

Link 02

Using these can provide better draping etc.

The above will run on PP2010 as I used them in it before going up to PP2012.

All the best.

A  'nother thing you can do is before you run your sim, open your Animation Pallette (if it isn't already) & press Play. Watch for any actors (hands in this case) passing through the body/ clothing; Poser tends to take the "shortest route" between keyframes, so if you have any undesirable intersections, add a new keyframe (or a few if ya need to) somewhere in the animation and alter your pose there to avoid the intersections.

Quote - Two scripts you can't do without if your're running Poser 9 or Poser Pro 2012:

http://snarlygribbly.org/misc/ezskin/EZSkin.zip - makes setting up SSS and Gamma control a snap.

http://snarlygribbly.org/misc/sf/SceneFixer.zip - takes care of all the pesky settings in a scene to make it render rihgt using gamma control.

Is EZSkin any use with Poser Pro 2010?  I noticed it has SSS but it does some seriously wonky stuff when I click on it.  Of course, I don't have a clue what I'm doing, so that shouldn't be any surprise...

hborre ( ) posted Wed, 16 May 2012 at 9:01 PM

EZSkin can only be used in P9/PP2012 just because of the SSS.  PP2010 does not have that feature.  Bagginsbill's VSSProp will accomplish similar results without the SSS.

Yes thank you Wanda. The sound on a few is a little garbled. But I saved them anyway.

hborre, I wonder if you, or anyone knows why there is all of the preview settings in PP2012, if it does not effect the final render? Does anyone besides myself fiddle with these to try to get better renders?

One thing in particular that I was wondering at is the Ambiant Occlusion settings (*see SS)???

I recently decided to learn Poser to compare it to Daz3D which I have been using for about a year now. When I buy a product from Daz it loads more or less automatically, but when I buy something for Poser it tells me to make sure I put it in the correct folders which apparently I am not doing correctly.

I bought the DoDoDr bird character yesterday. In the Readme section it says to “copy the Runtime folder into the Poser Runtime Folder”. So I copied the Dodo Runtime folder and then went to: Applications/Poser 8/Runtime and pasted the Dodo Runtime folder there. But, when I go into the Poser Runtime Folder, while there is a new (DoDo) Runtime Folder there, it is just called “Runtime”. (If I click on that folder to see what's in it I find four subdivisions: Geometries, Libraries, Templates, and Textures. And each of these opens into Animals, Dodo, etc.) but Poser can't locate them.

I notice that I have a Poser 4 Folder with a Download/Runtime folder on my computer that must have come when I installed Poser 8. Is this relevant?

What am I missing? Thanks in advance for any help.

I have Poser 8 (standard, not Pro) and am using it on a Mac GHz Intel Core i5 with 8 GB ram.

RHaseltine ( ) posted Thu, 24 May 2012 at 8:59 AM

Assuming you are using a recent version of Poser (7+, and certainly 8+) you don't need to put the content in the application folder at all (Poser 6 with the DAZ humans, and some other items, does work better with at least those items in the application folder) - and if you are using Windows 7/8 or Vista then you definitely shouldn't put content there. If you already have the items installed for DS just point Poser to the same location (you want the folder that holds the Runtime folder). For new content, you need to merge the Runtime with the existing Runtime in whichever location you use - putting one Runtime inside another won't work; on Windows that's a matter of dragging the Runtime folder into the folder that holds the existing folder, but on a Mac it depends which version of the OS you are using as older ones can end up replacing rather than merging.

Thanks for your help. I have a Mac 2.66 MHz processor. It's about 2 years old. OS X operating system. My Poser software is Poser 8 (not Pro).

My problem is with installing New Content. I guess my question boils down to How Do I Merge the new content Runtime folder with my Poser 8 Runtime folder on my Mac? I tried copying and pasting but as you indicated, that didn't work. Any more assistance would greatly be appreciated. Thanks again.

hborre ( ) posted Thu, 24 May 2012 at 12:11 PM

Wouldn't it be convenient to just link the runtime as an external rather than merge?  Merging Poser runtimes is taboo especially from earlier to current versions.  Internal scripts will become completely corrupted and unusable since scripting has changed since P4.

The most involved method but most secure, open each file folder and copy content folders into their appropriate locations.  This avoids overwriting any particular section and keeps everything intact.  Now, I do believe there is unzipping programs which will do exactly what you want with new content.  But I can't provide any further help because I'm strictly PC.

FutureFantasyDesign ( ) posted Thu, 24 May 2012 at 1:14 PM

Best unzipping tool.

Winrar does two great functions... "Extract Files" and that allows you to choose where to download the open file to a directory of your choice. And "Extract Here" which is my favorite choice as it lets me look at the folder, make sure all of the tree folders are correct and then install into my outside runtime. This function DOES NOT work with installers like Bitrock from Daz or other installer forms. Those generally have a directory option in them as default, but also most allow you to choose where to direct the folder to.

I'll second that.  I use Winrar all the time and by double clicking on zip file you can see the file structure even before extraction, another good feature.

I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 -  Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB  storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU .   The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

And winrar comes in both PC and MAC flavors and covers various other formats as well.

I would like to say thanks for the help. However, I must admit that I am still very confused altho I was able to open the New Content Runtime Folder and drag the subfolders (i.e. character, pose, textures, etc.) into appropriate Daz Runtime folders (character, pose, textures, etc). And now I can direct Poser to those Daz content files and use the product, but the whole process seems complicated. (And I am not clear about what I would do if I did not already have Daz installed on my computer.) Is there a reason Poser content does not come with installers the same way content sold for and by Daz does? Previously in this forum someone posted a sheet titled: Where To Put (or find) Poser Files, which I copied and studied before posting my question, but it still assumes familiarity with Poser that Newbees lack. And for those of us who came to computers late in life, fussing around inside folders is downright scary. No telling what we'll screw up when we start moving files and folders about.

As for Winrar, I am not familiar with this software and I will look into it, but I sense that the same problem still lurks for us Newbees: It is not readily apparent where the appropriate folders are in Poser, so we will still not know where to direct the folder(s) to.

I don't mean to gripe. I realize the fault lies with my inexperience with computer file and folder structures. Truly, thanks for nudging me in the right direction.

Here is some help. First go through your runtime, I assume you render with poser? That does make a huge difference to how your files upload. DS puts them in a totally different place then files inside poser. When installing into poser, well how many files do you have, how many do you think you might buy in the future? That is why a lot of people use what is called an "OUTSIDE Runtime". This is where you create a folder with a tree hierarchy. See the SS for you that I use. As an example.  When installing, honestly you should not have to go into the runtime and shuffle files.

Now open the poser folder, look for any "loose" runtimes. Sometimes I have had a runtime load outside of the actual runtime folder in another file inside of poser. So check for misplaced runtimes first. If you find one then cut and paste it into the poser folder where the file called Runtime lives. It will ask if you want to replace the current one, just say yes, it only adds what is not in there to the original. If you do not find any loose runtimes in the files in the poser folder, THEN open your original runtime folder and look in each file in there.

The 3 main folders in your runtime are Geometries/Libraries/Textures. If you find any files called Runtime in any of those folders, do as I said with  loose runtimes from elsewhere, cut and paste into the main poser folder where the original runtime lives.

I suggest you get a free 30 day trial of Winrar (*link> http://download.cnet.com/WinRAR-32-bit/3000-2250_4-10007677.html 32 bit or http://download.cnet.com/WinRAR-64-bit/3000-2250_4-10965579.html 64 bit, both versions have a 30 day trial. And at $29.00 to buy it is a good investment.

Now as to where poser files go. Are you using both DS and Poser? If so select on the installer to download to a location of your choice first, save your poser versions in a seperate folder and then download the Daz Studio files to another folder that you create. Remember that Daz Studio lights and texture (*and others) files are completely different from their poser versions. So you want to keep them seperate for your sanities sake! ;)

If I was redundant I apologize. But I hope this helps. Nothing is more of a nightmare then trying to shuffle two different versions of the same product.

How do I get my content from Daz to Poser without using up even more of my hd space? I don't want to have two 168 gig runtimes in both Poser and D/S.

I read (and re-read several times) your instructions. I have a follow up question: Where do I put the OUTSIDE RUNTIME FOLDER once I complete it? How will Poser know where to find it?Also what happens when I try to load Lights? Where do Light files go?

Also, I did not find any misplaced Runtime folders inside Poser, probably because I have not bought hardly any content for Poser since I don't know how to load it. However, I would like to get started acquiring more Poser content but I need to get a handle on how to manage those files first.

Hi again! :)

I put it on your "D" drive (*or your secondary drive). How much space do you have to set aside for your Outside RT? Create your folder name it something like My OSRT, so that it does not create conflict or confusion. Set up your "Tree" folders in there. V4 M4 Lights however you are going to seperate it.

Hi again!

Then when you download a file, download it to the folder that you have designated for that item. A light set will be downloaded into the folder called Lights, etc. Since you do not have a lot of content, why not create your OS RT and do a fresh install into each of your tree folders? Then you will have them in the correct folders, and when you unzip them, thay will just stay where they are!

How will poser know... Well it does not matter what version you have, all versions have this little + sign at the top of the library in poser. You click on that and a window opens up, you just navigate to your outside runtime, select the file you need and load it! After you are finished you can leave it there for future work or just delete the folder using the - minus sign next to the + plus sign.  Once you do this once or twice it will be like second nature!

The lights can either live inside of poser, or in an outside folder as we discussed. If you have very few light sets, or ones that you use all the time, it is fine to just load them into poser. If you want them to live in the poser program, just open your light set zip, it contains a folder called only "Runtime", copy that folder, and then paste it into the poser folder where the main runtime lives as I mentioned before, and it will install all by itself, you need to do nothing else. Don't confuse yourself by opening the folder and thinking you need to move or fix anything. It knows where to go and what to go into! :) If you do get a "bad" product, where something is missing. Sitemail the vendor, let them know that it won't install and they can help to trouble shoot it for you. Or I am sure it would be fine to post here, usually if there is an issue with a product, more then one person will be aware of it.

So recap, just reinstall all of the content you have purchased to a new folder as a fresh install

Open the zip and copy/paste it into the location of your choice. (*Outside RT, or Poser RT)

Your lights load in poser, the icons vary a tiny bit from each version, if you let us know what version you are using, I or someone can post a SS of where to select your lightset! I own 5/6/7/PP2010/PP2012 so I have most of the versions.

Anything else don't hesitate to ask. Remeber everyone starts off at the same level. Don't panic, it really will come to you, it just sometimes takes time to get all the details straight!!! ;)

I somehow managed to overwrite all my Prop Files that came with Poser 8 with a single Prop file from something called Wedding Rings.

My question (for the moment) is how can I get those Prop files back?

My first impulse was to delete Poser 8 and then install it again since I have not as yet bought any content for Poser that I care about losing. But, before doing that I want to be sure that Poser will allow me to re-install the Program.

Again, I'd appreciate any advise.

But I am new to Poser and don't know how to get those Prop Files back.

I think you may be making your problem too complicated. As you have already said, you have very little content now. Why not just uninstall poser, and re-install clean, using the outside RT set up you have now and all your issues will be resolved!? I wish. I did reinstall Poser 8 on my MAC but now it will not recognize DAZ PEOPLE which is the folder where V4 and M4 live. When I first opened up the re-installed POSER the DAZ PEOPLE folder was there, then the next time I opened up POSER it was gone even though Ican find it the RUNTIME TREE, under Libraries/Character where it is suppose to be? There could be other problems as well that I have not discovered yet.

ALso, I tried to install POSER 8 on my PC (XP Operating System) in my Photography Studio but when I tried to open it up after installing it I received a message that "Application has failed because CONFIG is incorrect..."

If you have any suggestions, I am game. If not, I honestly appreciate all the time and comments you have put forth to date.

I am having a weird problem I hope someone can help with.  I am running Poser 9 on a Windows 7 machine.

I recently bought a new computer and had Poser 9 on it.  I had everything running fine but the computer was a buggy piece of junk so I exchanged it for a new one.  I installed Poser 9 on it and things are not the same.  I am having a problem with Michael 4 and morph packages both from Daz and from the marketplace here.  No matter what I do, I can't get Michael to accept the morph injection properly.  If you look at the undo menu, it shows up as being there, but no change happens to the figure.

The wierd part is if I load a scene that I had on the previous computer, the Michaels in those scenes will take the injection.  If I add a new Michael to the scene he won't take the morph injection but the others will.  Any thoughts?

Did you reinitialize and update the M4 reinstallation?

Edit: Must be done after base and after every morph package.

Yes I did.  I even re-installed M4 and Morphs ++ when I noticed the problem.

Are you using External Binary Morph in Poser?  Check under General Preferences to see if this feature is activated.

Edit: What was your previous computer OS?

wellender ( ) posted Wed, 30 May 2012 at 10:48 AM · edited Wed, 30 May 2012 at 10:52 AM

I believe it was on.  I was at a different computer last night, but I saw it mentioned in another post and checked.

It was the exact same computer.  Windows 7.

Untick that feature when you get a chance, it is not relevant if you have no intentions of developing content across Poser and DAZ platforms.  It causes more problems than it is worth.

Where exactly is Poser installed in Win7, it's exact location?  And also where is M4 and Morphs located?

I just recently struggled with Win 7 Pro and it's little gliches.

Here are two things that helped me.

Do you have in your Program Files/Common Files/Daz/dzInstall.ini ?
if not you will need to create that (*you can also do this if you are using a 32 bit OS by choosing Program Files (x86)/Common Files/Daz/dzInstall.ini) and creating it in that folder also. It is easy, make all of the folders, and the ini file is just a new rich text document made by right clicking on the empty space inside the Daz folder, then selecting the rich text document and naming it the ini file as spelled here.

Second, click on the poser icon, is this a 64 bit or a 32 bit system? If you have the X86 folder with your content then go and click on the Poser Icon, and select Properties, then select Compatability. There is a window drop down that will say different OS's you can choose from. Choose XP for 32 bit SP2 for that. If you are using 64 bit choose Win 7. I posted a SS for you. If you do not select one, often it gives weird errors that make no sense! I struggled to get W7 to work correctly for me. This may honestly help.

Hope so.

Where is Michael installed? Under WIndows 7 (and Vista) content should not be placed in the application folder.

wellender ( ) posted Thu, 31 May 2012 at 9:48 AM

I did the update on M4 again and I changed the compatability to Windows 7.  Everything is working now except for one morph package.  I went back and unchecked the binary thing and the one morph package injection still doesn't work.  All the others do though so I am not that worried about it.

Thanks for the help.

 I have two questions:

  1. Can anyone advise me regarding why I cannot install Poser 8 on to my PC? I get a message that say Application has failed due to a config error. The PC has a dual core processor and runs on XP Professional 2002. It has plenty of RAM. I run photoshop CS4 and D/S4 Pro on it without any problems.

  2. I notice that SmithMicro is offering Poser Pro 2012 for $199 with a coupon. Anyone know where I can get a coupon? Otherwise it costs $499.

Meanwhile, I am still wrestling with trying to recover my lost files. I must say tho, it has been a learning , albeit extremely frustrating and time consuming, experience.

Do windows updates, do not use SP3 along with DOTNET Framework 3 it causes a glitch. If you did download it there is a link on how to remove DOTNET Framework 3.

Make sure you have all of the critical updates though. Unless you know what you are doing the MSConfig is a set up extension, and you probably should not be messing with that.

You might be able to fix alll of your issues by doing a System Restore back to a very early point when things were working on your computer. (*say a month back) it will not delete any of your files on your "D" drive. That might fix everything for you.

I'm not aware of any coupons, but you might try going to the SM site and Chatting with a rep about any promotions going on.

The coupons are generally in newsletters, so you need to be signed up for those. There was one over the last weekend, for US holiday (Memorial Day), but I think it's expired. No doubt there will be another in due course.

I have a question to ask if anyone knows how to do this.  I am using Poser 9 btw on Windows 7 64 bit.

1.  How or where do I install the Victoria 4.2 Pro Bundle?  Specifically the morphs and Skin Maps.

I tried to install it and I can't seem to get it working right.  I installed all the content right that should be content but I have no idea how to install the Skin Maps or Morphs in the right area.  Please help.

basicwiz ( ) posted Tue, 19 June 2012 at 9:08 AM

Where do the files wind up? That is, can you give the directory where the files are being installed to relative to your V4 install?

Are you initializing after the install?

Another question:  how do you conform clothing to the body?  Trying my best to conform it so it drapes over the body but I'm unsure on what to do. Any process on how to do that?

I'm a new Poser convert from DAZ Studio and I'm totally loving Poser Pro 2010.  Every render is fantastic.  But I'm having a few user interface problems.

First - I really miss the scene tab in DS.  There are lots of uses for it.  Like selecting multiple items all at once. Like when you want to hide a character's legs.  Lots of body parts.  Is there a way to select multiple parts in Poser and make them visible or not?

Second, again missing the scene tab.  Things seems to get lost.  I think I accidentally parent them to something else, like prop hair that got parented to a necklace.  In the DS scene tab, you could find these things pretty easily just by scrolling down the whole list.  How do I find lost objects in Poser?

And another "finding things" question - if you want a camera to point at an object, DS has that nice widget that you click on and it just automatically zooms the current camera to point at whatever you had selected.  Is there something like that in Poser?

Thanks
