Does anyone know of a good Christmas Tree prop? i used to have one in my runtime but for life of me I can't seem to find it.
Okay, I don't know how I did this, but I'm hoping one of you fine people can help me out.
I'm running DAZ 3, and recently, whenever I install a new Reality softbox, another incidence of Victoria and a cube primitive loads along with the softbox. I must have paired these somehow in a recent scene, but I can't quite figure out how to unpair them. Thoughts?
Load just the softbox, and look on the scene tab. If the extra items are there, remove them and resave the softbox.
Or uninstall and reinstall Reality, making sure the content is gone before reinstalling.

Yes, I have certainly gone into the scene tab and deleted the figure and the cube, but I don't get what you're saying about saving the softbox. Thanks for helping out, btw.

Possible you saved over the Reality Extra Softbox with your minimal scene? If so strip out the extras and save over it again - or reinstall/replace the Reality items from the installer. Thus restoring it to what you expect.

Thanks Robert and Paolo. I've given up again and just gone back to straight CPU. I have no idea why it won't work now, as it has in the past. Robert, outside of the cpu count and scene names, my outut tab is identical, settings wise. Checked all my drivers against nvidia's latest, and they are current. Even updated the C++ the other day, tried taking the SLI down to a single card, and ran it through the last three builds of Lux. Still no joy.

Does anyone know where I could get a light or lights for a Christmas tree that I could actually turn into a light? They could be used in so many places. On a house, of course on a Christmas tree, outlining a regular tree, light up a patio or deck etc. I realize that multiple lights are going to make the render take much longer, but to me it would be worth it. Any suggestions?

Well well well... Riddle me this, my Lux bretheren!
One of these things is not like the other, one of them is kinda the same.
Same scene, same mat settings. Even used the same EXR light data from a Vue image.
Only thing different was the Lux version!
To get it working, I ended up pulling all the displacement maps out, and any additional Subdivision settings, in case anybody else runs into such a predicament.
(Also found it interesting that the EXR gave nice shadows in RC2 but not RC4!)

Sbt, you should not use any of the RC versions, the final 1.0 has been out for a while. Not much difference from RC4 but it's better to stick to final releases if they are available.

Pretty much. Load atmosphere, make a few changes with the Atmos Editor, set the render settings (right click on the camera for the short cut), though I usually render at 16:9 and 2133x1200 at 240dpi. Also for an IBL type, you'll want to use the Panoramic setting (think its the top one) and click the 360* value.
I've found that the EXR makes for a great IBL as opposed to the HDR (as it translates onto the Studio spheres and looks right/unstretched as a background image), but I save both and a PNG in the event I need it for an icon somewhere.

For the life of me Paolo, I have had Zero luck with the hybrid mode in 1.0 and 1.1. That's where the black screen came from. Not sure if something broke between RC4 and the 1.0 final or my machine is finicky as h*ll, but hybrid would not work for me in the newest version. CPU is fine, strangely!

Same problem here, no warnings in the log tab. ATI HD6870+FX8150.
I didnt get faster renders with Lux 1.0 hybrid mode, so I was curious as to how 1.1 would perform. It might be a matter of waiting for the next version of Lux.

Nice one superboom! ...not sure the umbrella light should glare into the camera, but image still looks good! `¬) I assume that's one of John's? - I must find an excuse to use some of John's bits soon... maybe his candle set could come in handy for a scene I have in mind, (if I can ever get free from tweaking this mad science thing! lol!)
I was hoping to post my reflections render on Friday. Unfortunately, after 32 hours of rendering, there is still some noise. Now I'm aiming for this coming Friday :)
By the way, Reality and LuxRender works fine in Windows 8.

Welcome back! I wondered how the forrest would render out! looks pretty good to me! `¬)
heres how I post an image (took a while to work out with a bit of help from here...)
Make sure your image is on the net, you have a gallery, so that is fine. Open your image in a new window, and then right click for 'properties'. It should list an address URL for that. Copy that from the properties and in then in this forum reply area (where you type your post) click the icon that looks like a tree. In the Image URL post the address you copied. Then go to the appearance tab and enter 600 in the dimensions first box. when you hit enter, the other box should auto change. Click insert button. That puts the image into your post as a 600 x whatever image. Now in the image in the 'reply' box, right click the image and select 'insert/edit link'. Paste the url again into this box, and select for 'target' to be 'open in new window' and then click insert.
That now means when you have finished typing the reply you want to post and have posted your reply, the image should appear in your post, and if you click on the image it will open up the original url location full size in a new window... `¬)
so your post would look like this...
I had a problem at first, as there was an extra line when I copied the url! And I ended up with the same 'x' square you did! ...so make sure when copying the url you copy the whole address... `¬)

a great shot CrazyHorse! ...some very good posing, makes it look very dramatic! a little depth of field might help remove the fact that the castle door pulls the eyes away from the action, but its still an excellant image! `¬)
This is last nights overnight test run. (It includes the 'lightning' that superboom pointed to in an earlier post; it seems to work very well in this scene! - so thanks for that superboom! `¬)) it is free from runtime dna http://www.runtimedna.com/RDNA-Atmospherics-Lightning-Vol-1.html
I have now extended the environment image so that the appearance in the glass reflections are correct, and have added the lightning to the the globe. I have also converted the tube stand to glass, as in this new scene (where the tube rack and globe intersection was corrected) the tube rack will not Dform easily due to the increased mesh density... (still a little noisy, but not worried about that at the moment)
I am now test running a little added 'atmosphere' if you know what I mean! - although there are still some textures to finish as well...
I've been trying to recreate the issues that you guys have been having with hybrid rendering and just can't seem to do it. Hardware setup on this box is an fx8150 and ati hd7750. I just click on gpu rendering. Collect textures and full size is on and it just works. SLG works so well that I use it almost exclusively for test renders. I think from what everyone has posted that it doesn't seem to be a hardware issue; so, there has to be something in the scene itself, or lighting, or materials that is making gpu rendering puke it back at you.
Sort of off topic but not really. Finished my first ibl with vue last night. This was a full (yet small and basic) scene. Saved it out with 4000x2000 jpg, exr and hdr. The quality of the picture itself wasn't what I was hoping. It was a tad washed out when I put the jpg on the reality ibl sphere. The upside was that it rendered really nice. I was getting double the speed from this light than I have out of other ibl's I've used. All three files together come to about 90mb in a rar file; so, I'm not really sure where to put it to enable others to download it. Anyway.. here's the render I created using it....

Hmmm.. I can find absolutely no issue at all with how she's dressed herself. Maybe a few too many clothes for being on a deserted isle.
The impression I get is that if she's too dumb to put on a minimal piece of clothing like that, what chance would she have with anything more complicated?
Would she try and put a pair of jeans on her head?

I noticed that the exr looked best for the background, but even still it loses the great render quality from distortion. I was thinking that while it provides superb light data as you mentioned, it might be worth it torender a straight 16x9 and use an alpha channel in Reality, then plug that image in as a backgound plate with composite work. I've done that before and the sky looks much more even, not to mention pretty!
The lady here speaks for itself though. Good light data!! (I don't see a clothing issue either =D )

Wow, still playing with that? ;-) Lightning (and lighting) came out nice!
That was indeed one of John's light props. You called it right. I thought looked a bit out of place too, but I had yet to use one in a render and it does look and function quite nice. Not sure it added much light to the scene, but in that regard, I did pull the power down quite a bit so I could see some of the veins in the umbrella.

Sharky, here's the one I used the Vue exr for as both the background image and the light source, IBL wise.
I pulled the gain down a bit to .85 in Lux and fiddled with the camera settings to even it out. 320 for the speed equivalent, 1 for exposure duration, and the 'light meter' value of 4. (In the Linear tonemapper values)
I ended up using a water prop set (Rubicon's Ocean 2) with standard glass rather than 'water' with the water IOR and gave it the beans for subdivision. .80 opacity helped reveal some of the underwater detail but .75 ended up being better in a later test (this image has the former rather than the latter value)
In case anyone is curious, I used the glass to keep the form of the water prop intact, as the water plane made it level all the way to the horizon. That, and the top surface looked sweet with the deformation ripples ;-)

...I must say that I don't think I'd paddle there, looks very dark and mysterious - as if something is lurking just below the surface! `¬)
Yes, still playing the mad scientist... I removed the fog I was playing with, as although it did add a nice haze, it detracted from the crispness of the items as well as slowing the render by a factor of two! So found an excuse to add a candle light (one of John's)... just playing with getting the right balance between reflection and transmission colour after having set the candle to matte translucent... gives a very realistic look to the light glow through the wax! `¬)

I did try the water conversion first, actually ;--) Whatever happened, my ocean lost all its shape with the ripple setting. Now that I've got another test scene set up and hybrid mode working, I'll have another go on a simple test and see what happens!

Ah! sounds like the exploding objects when subdivided! I understand now! Might work with ripple set to 0 and sub div set to zero, but yes, I've seen objects dissapear when some sort of subdivision is applied, and I gues that may be what happens if the ripple is set to greater than 0? ...oh well! `¬)
