The Force is strong with you Wolf359, very strong! I am hoping the same-although having read the books-there are some good stories involving the descendants of Luke, etc.

I recently started playing Knights of the Old Republic again (emulated on my Xbox360). Crude graphics-but the play and story is still good. There are some issues with speech breaking up when the other background sounds/music get complex.

I imagine Disney would find the familiar "safer" and am afraid they will just go with it.

KIDDING now- how about the tale of Jar Jar's Fall to the Darkside? It starts when Jar Jar surrenders and offers his assistance- Vader has long been intrigued by JarJar's Force abilities-somehow stumbling through battles-and destroying the enemy by seeming coincididence. Vader takes him on as an Apprentice to study the Stupid Side of the Force.. I started a cartoon series on the subect-here is panel one-but stopped due to threats! :-)

We get to go back to Tatooine again
There's another Death Star"

NO..NO & ......NO!!!!!!!

Sick of Anakin/Vader!!
Sick of  Obiwan,yoda.!!
sick of R2D2 C3PO.!!!

Dont we know ENOUGH of how their stories end??

I would like to see some real "prequels"as in the character rich universe of "knights of the old Republic" Era.

The origins of the the Sith/Jedi War.
the founders jedi /sith order.
instead of simply regurgitating the same stale old characters and "introduce them to a new generation" how about something new and fresh for All of us.

Cheers

Along with the core new trilogy of films, we could be seeing a few other side / back stories being spun off then?

Maybe we will get some all new characters and stories, per Wolf359's wish... which I would wholeheartedly concur with.

Who knows. We might just get The All New Adventures of Jar Jar Binks ;)

But I have my fingers crossed though...

I'm not looking forward to "Jedis on Ice" or should it be "Jedii on Ice"? which is on next Xmas in every town near you.

The Reality Television series of "I'm a jedi, get me out of here" has  been franchised already, along with the new game show that offers you the chance to win jedi powers by answering a series of questions.

I hear Ryan Seacrest will be hosting "Who wants to be a Jedi".....

I love all this angsting. I heard the exact same things when Disney bought Marvel in 2009. Everything was just going to go to hell with Marvel, I heard. all the beloved characters were doooooooooommmmmmmmed!

Well, you know, except for Iron Man 2. And Thor. And Captain America. And The Avengers. And Iron Man 3. And Captain America: Winter Soldier. And Thor: The Dark World. And Avengers 2. And Guardians of the Galaxy...

One of the biggest problems with Star Wars movies was George Lucas and his writing/directing. There's a reason everyone makes fun of the "love story" in Attack of the Clones. Having Disney take over the franchise means other people have a chance to get in there.

Exactly what I was thinking. Most think that Lucas screwed up SW long ago, so do you really think Disney could do worse? I always felt that Lucas took the story too seriously. It was an adventure story, and he began to see it as modern-day Shakespeare. That's why the dialogue was so bad and the acting so wooden at times. Turning lighthearted adventure into moody drama.

I know this is an older thread, but what the hell. I haven't been around (kind'a moved cross country and all that) so was just browsing through to see whats up and came across this one.

Mainly just thought I'd make a couple points -

Pixar started out as part of Lucasfilm, way back in the 70s, and Disney has been connected to the star wars video games since at least the mid 90s, so it shouldn't really be a big surprise that they've taken control of the films now too. I'm sure Lucas still has creative control over anything that goes on the big screen. He's just getting Disney to foot the bill for it.

That, and, Lucas had originally stated that his intentions were to make 3 trilogies, spanning 3 generations of the Skywalker family. So whatever is coming in terms of films will most likely deal with Han and Leia's kids, since they are the 3rd generation. Ford, Fisher, and Hamil could still play their same characters, they're the right age if their kids are grown, so it would all work out. And, they were all signed on to do a 4th film after Jedi, it just never happened. They've all stated in recent years that they would enjoy reprising their roles.

Knights of the Old Republic is a pretty awesome storyline, and reveals a lot of the old lore, but it takes place 3,000 years before the films. Plus, Lucas didn't write it, and it doesn't deal with any of the Skywalkers, so I don't see that happening unless the MMO turns around (don't see that happening either) OR this new film is a HUGE hit with the younger generation of star wars fans. There's over 25,000 years of history in the SW universe, really not possible to cover all of it in any number of films, so I'm thinkin the safest route is to stick with the Skywalker family for films, since that's what everyone knows.

Just hope it doesn't suck. :)

Okay I've revealed enough of my SW geekdom here...

The rumor mills are flying. The big rumor right now is that Harrison Ford has signed on to reprise his role as Han Solo. No word on the others.

But....

In an interview with Lucas some time ago, he made mention that if he was to make an episode 7, the Sith would be gone. Darth Vador and Darth Sidious were the last of their kind. He mentioned Dark Jedi, which wore a helmet much like vador in homage, and were the exact opposite of the Jedi.

I wanted to see what that would look like, so I turned Simon into a Dark Jedi.

Sort of.

The costume isn't finished.

Yeah, I'd heard that too. But just because he said it should, doesn't mean it will.

I'd heard a story that he wanted to kill the character way back when, which is why Han was put in the carbonite chamber. I bet he didn't think he would be in ROTJ...

Wasn't that one of the novels that Lucas allowed to be written? I'd heard that he has distanced himself from them, and won't use any of the stories from the very large collection as part of his universe.

I also heard that he wants to move away from the Jedi stories. The Star Wars universe in pretty vast, and he wanted to explore a lot more of it.

At least until he sold it...

Not sure how accurate that is. Lucasarts controls all story lines to novels, games etc. George Lucas even named Han and Leia's kids when those books were written (back in the 90s). As I understand it now, it's pretty near impossible to get a star wars plot approved from outside sources. The novels that exist today are mostly just outlines created my Lucasarts and fleshed out by various authors.

Puts on the SW geek hat - Technically the Sith haven't existed for centuries - they were a race of brutes that the Dark Jedi enslaved long ago. Darth = Dark Lord of the Sith. For a while, any dark jedi that did not cary Sith blood was not considered a true Sith lord (by their peers), so technically Palpatine and Anakin were never true Sith, they only followed the Sith religions (Well Palpatine may have been), since the last traces of Sith blood vanished long before Anakin ever came along. But as long as Jedi exist, the potential for the Sith also exists. (Good can't exist without evil, and vise-versa).

If he wanted a new enemy for a 3rd trilogy there are the Yuuzhon Vong, which is what the Solo kids have been fighting pretty much their entire lives, and IMO that would make both the film and the EU fans happy, in order to tie all of it in together.

*then it wouldn't be star wars. Unless he wanted to make an action film about, say, rogue squadron or one of the other squadrons, but that would only appeal to a very limited audience, film-wise and they'd lose their asses. Dash Rendar would make for a cool storyline - the hero from Shadows - but again, without lightsabers and force users, people won't see it as part of star wars and the film will most likely bomb. I'd say leave stories like that to the novels and video games.

If they wanted to do a stand-alone film that didn't require trying to make Ford or Fisher look 30 years younger than they are (which with today's tech it really wouldn't be that difficult), then Shadows of the Empire would probably be the best one to go with, but even there you've still got dark jedi to contend with. Cause it aint star wars without sabers and the force.

JJ Abrams does Star Trek films...with all the animosity between SW and ST, the Internet may well collapse...;)

Most of the talk that I am referring to was years ago. I know that all the novels that are put out are approved by Lucas. And you are right, it would be impossible to try to cash in on that. Those books have been around long enough that most avid followers almost know more about Star Wars then Lucas himself (kidding)...

And I am with you. Star Wars to me is the Jedi. I even wrote a story awhile back that had a very young Yoda, but I never finished it because I don't know enough about Star Wars to do it justice.
