Subject: the Dawn of a new day...

Best of luck with the use of .pmd file format. I know it has a technical excellence on paper but in practice I've had a lot of the products I've purchased that use them come with at least one broken/dead morph dial and my own file saves using the .pmd has not had much more success with it from Poser 7 thru Poser Pro2012 on three different computers with diffrent versions of Windows OS. I guess it's like all things, what is supposed to happen on paper isn't always the way it works out in the real world. I'm not going to ask you to change it, it'd just FUBAR you're workflow to release but I thought I should share my own experience with .pmd files for future reference worthless as my experience/opinion may be.

My brain is just a toy box filled with weird things

But a weight-mapped figure that works natively in both DS and Poser?  Is that really possible?

I think that may mean there is a Poser version and a DS version ;). Not one version for both, since they're not really compatible formats :)

Laurie

It is possible only in the broadest terms.  You can make a Poser version that "sort of" works in DAZ (since DS can technically read .cr2 figures) or you can make a DAZ version with DSON support files for Poser (and we all know DSON has some shortcomings).  Unless they did two native versions, one duf and one cr2, there can't be full cross-platform support.  And yes, that means clothing intercompatibility has similar issues.

Though if Poser users didn't choose to make GNDA and Tyler their main figures, I don't see much chance of this bagging that spot.  Isn't the refusal to switch away from V4M4 driven by 1. people not upgrading to weight-map compatible Poser versions and 2. people not wanting to abandon their large wardrobes for those figures?  This can't realistically address either of those unless it comes with a heckuva lot of cheap clothes out of the gate.

I'll be watching to see what happens. ;)

OMG YOU POST TOO MUCH! I can't keep up BWAHAHAHAAH!

I was gonna promise a quick suit mesh, but they've got it covered. Wee!

Joe, how long till we get HCS for Dawn? :D

mylemonblue, I used .pmd's for my Antonia morphs. They are confusing at first, but much less than initial learning to make injection poses - after you know what to look for, and having the right tools, .pmd files are great to work with, IMHO.

You may have a point but with Poser 2014 and the fitting room there is an easy way to provide clothing.   Yes I know that still means people have to upgrade but the other impact Poser 10/2014 will have is to drive down the price of Poser 9/2012 and make weight mapping more afforadable for some.  In addition, if Dawn is really good it adds another reason to upgrade.

Some people can't afford to and that will always be the case and that is the same for all new figures.  Only time will tell.

I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 -  Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB  storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU .   The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

Here's the answer for your questions around polygon count:

Total Vertices:39096
Total Triangles:1702
Total Quads:37624
Total Faces:39326

Dawn has the following material surfaces:

Cornea
Eyes
Iris
Lacrimal
Pupil
Gums
InnerMouth
Teeth
Tongue
Face
Lips
Arms
Legs
Body
Eyelashes
Eyelashes_Large
Fingernails
Toenails

And has her UV's split across 8 templates files. Her face is on its own map, then arms and hands, then legs and feet, and torso, with additional templates for nails, lashes, inner mouth and teeth, and eyes.

I want to know about body morphs expansion packs. What and when? To me that's the real meat.

I think two digits are missing from your triangle count. It should be close to double the quad count.

Remember that Studio wiill export a weight mapped cr2.  I've done it with both Genesis and Genesis 2, and exported Genesis conforming clothing works too.  As I understand it, Dawn is rigged in Studio and exported as Poser figure, so there is indeed a cr2 and duf version...

I for one am most definitely interested in supporting Dawn.  Like everyone else, I am very excited about the possibilities!  :-)

This is so awesome! I will add you to the list and certainly your stuff  is bound to be on my personal wishlist when you make it.

Does Dawn come with any autofit clones or are there any plans top create them?

I'll explain what I mean: sometimes I have a second skin (say, an armor-like bodysuit or chainmail shader) which I can apply to the core figure. But I usually need hands/feet to have regular skin. In V4/Genesis it was easy to do by just not applying shader to hands/feet material zone, without editing second skin texture or working with polygon selector. Adding material zone is an easy thing and I can do it myself but I'd much prefer for original Dawn to have those zones already.

Hi Kattey, yep I know what your on about, with a second skin, you can do various lengths for pants etc. Then do MAT files etc. to put on those options.

Same with the arms, full sleeve, half, short etc.

Mix and match is fun.

I do hope that the male figure will have "nads". Can use a fig leaf for promo images to keep it clean. If you go the conforming figure route for them, then I'd just render promo images without it conformed but the texture would be in the product package. I'm sure an independant artist could come with a 'feminine' morph for Dawn. Maybe put that out on ShareCG. I've got several of those morphs for V4. I don't always use it when doing Pinups, but I do do nudes of both male and female figures.

I am very glad to see that the initial offering will include a Merchant Resource skin! My mouse hand is so itchy to start working with a different map than V4's. However, I wish so very much for a universal texture conversion utility! I have quite a few base skins for V4 and I've got several character skins now that I was testing for V4. It would be so nice if I could take those skins and convert them to use on other figure (Dawn, Michelle, Anastasia), with a few clicks of my mouse button.

I'm so used to seeing quads included in a triangle count, as a lot of programs treat them as two tri's with a hidden edge. Max, maya, game engines etc..

paganeagle2001, since you are making note of requests, I'm hoping for a simple casual outfit for Dawn at the time of release that would be suitable for pose set renders, similar to Roxie's basic clothing, so that I wouldn't be attempting to promote interest in Dawn with pose sets showing her with only a bikini.   Doesn't have to be fancy, just something simple casual so that it would be appropriate for the types of pose sets I'd be creating...like Roxie's sets, in an office setting, driving a car, riding a bike, relaxing in a home setting, and the musician poses, as well as others.   Just thought I'd mention this in advance.

Also, when the male figure is released, it would be nice if it had a beard texture option for the face.

Thanks!

Quote - > Quote - > Quote - I think two digits are missing from your triangle count. It should be close to double the quad count.

i take those numbers to signal that it's a mix of quads and tris

Could be.

I didn't have your vast industry experience to distract me from the simple addition.

  Total Triangles:1702
+Total Quads:37624

Total Faces:39326

The thing about genital sets is that a certain company makes you buy a bundle set before they are included.

We all know that various sets will appear at various sites, so that, those that want to use them can.

All the best.

"Wouldn't that be a problem?  Someone said for SubD to work meshes should be 100% quads."

The "all quads" rule is just for gaming avatars.

Firefly doesn't care about quads, tris or poles. If you know how, you can even get away with n-gones.

And the new Poser SubD doesn't mind tris, either. It hates unwelded vertices, though.

Glad to see a "decent" polycount on Dawn*.*

While using SubD won't hurt to achieve 100% smoothness, that should be enough polygons to do some nicely detailed bodyshapes just by sculpting the mesh.

My own 3rd Gen hybrids are 46177 polys and I'm pretty sure I could have savely reduced that polygon count by a few thousand polys, but I didn't want to loose direct compatibility with the default 3rd gen figures.

I personally have no need for those parts but if they were done as some sort of viable separate option for people who want them, I believe it would make people happy.
