I just saw the movie.

The critics have almost universally panned this film.

I saw the film in a PACKED Movie theatre and there was applause at the end. I personally loved and recommend this movie. It's not your father's Superman (Which I also in the movies back in 78) but for the harder, meaner and leaner audience of 2016, it was just what we had been waiting for. Gal Gadot had minimal time on screen yet managed to almost steal the movie. Batman would've stolen the movie save for the killer ending which I will not reveal.

So I vote yes. Top marks. Has anyone else seen it and what do they think?

Was wondering why all the Superman & Batman movies have been running on the TV. Actually watched Man of Steel again last night as soon as I realized it was the same Superman as in this new movie SvB. Then I ran off to Google future movies & ooooh yeah. Very excited to see them all but I usually wait until I can watch them at home on my 60". Not a fan of movie theaters, but once in a while I still go. I like to own the movies I watch too so I have enough movies to fill two bookshelves. I'm of the opinion that if you're going to do superhero movies to use the same actors as the characters and when one decides to not do the next movie, stop making said movie or featuring said character. Like with X-Men... No Hugh Jackman, No Wolverine. For me, he defined that role & no one else can do Wolverine. I love the fact that the superhero movies have more grit than their predecessors as it makes them more believable. As far as critics go, they have no clue what they're talking about anyway as they are so biased these days. I've seen horrible reviews for movies I absolutely loved. Guessing SvB is worth the trip to the movie theater for me. 😁

Have a creative day!

Here's the secret to understanding critics, if they hate it, you'll probably love it. I don't know what criteria they use to judge a film but is doesn't seem to fit with the masses.

It is film critics' duty to find and point out faults that are missed, or at least forgiven, by people of lesser intellect - those whose only interest is in entertainment.

The really clever critics can see through all the hype and expose the true value of a film to an otherwise delusional public.

We have so much to thank them for.

There going to have a lot of fun replacing IronMan .

I was shocked buy what happened to Spidy's babe in 2014 spider man 2.

I finely just saw Mocking Jay 2 .I can behind the war 100% ,after all I am a Anarchist. The Joan of Arc reflection was killer. but I thought 4 movies was a bet long n redundant.

Don't know if I can comment without giving things away but my personal gripe with this - and so many other movies - is why the makers feel entitled to screw around with the characters. I'm all for a darker take on the comic heroes (I loved Nolan's take on Batman) but there are some things which should not ever be changed. Even Nolan respected the canon Batman does not kill and does not ever use guns. Batman has a very deep seated dislike for guns and murderers. True, in his first incarnation he did kill baddies but as time went by and the character developed, a central part of his being has been a strict no guns and no killing policy. One notable exception was Darkseid and we all know how that ended up. :)

As for Superman, well I kinda gave up on the idea of a movie Supes after Man of Steel. And the movie version of his logo is pure shite, too. Once again, why bother?

The new movie? I give it minus several million out of 10.

Unlike a certain body of elected officials, I like that we can disagree...and agree.

The only issue I would take with both of the current series is what was mentioned above. The one thing Superman and Batman have in common is that more than anything, they don't want to see anyone die. Superman has long had a code against killing. Batman even more so as his parents were killed by a gun.

Another problem I have with film makers is their habit of revealing everyone's identity! No one's secret is safe when a movie is being made. In these days of instant information and distribution such a secret would be out with minutes and would affect the sequel. They are probably right, unfortunately. I wear glasses and people still know who I am. Superman and Clark Kent would be an easier jump.

My last complaint was that every film maker feels compelled to kill off icons. Hans Solo comes to mind instantly. Personally, I subscribe to the Jim Shooter rule. If I didn't create the character, I have no right to kill him off.

However, where the great SamTherapy and I disagree is on the bulk of the film. Sam, you can't make Super Friends in 2016. The times are too mean and the wonder is pretty much gone. The battle at the end was simply insane. On a site where everyone is into CG, I think this was the best mix of CG and live action yet. It was almost impossible to tell when they switched from CG to live action. Plus the arrival of Wonder Woman was just plain cool. Too bad you didn't like it. I can't wait for the rest of the Justice League to show up.

SamTherapy ( ) posted Sat, 26 March 2016 at 8:19 PM

Sadly, I can't say why I don't like the fight scene without giving away some of the plot. Anyhow I ain't espousing Super Friends but... the main inspiration for the fight scene was The Dark Knight Returns which is, according to DC, non canon, or Elseworlds as they like to term it nowadays. Even so, the premise for the fight is (in the movie, at least) shaky. It could have been much better plotted, is what I mean. Hey, I'm a guitarist; I always think I could do it better. ;)

"The great SamTherapy"? Don't think so. Flattered but still...

Totally my mistake. This response contains Spoiler Alerts (!)

In these days where a lot of people have the attitude of I'll wait and rent the Blu-Ray, I forget that just because a movie is out of the theaters where I live, some patient soul is waiting for just that. I do it too. I decide which I want to see on the big screen and which I think I want to see at home. Sorry about that.

It's true. Han Solo is involved in the killing of an icon. I won't say which one but I'm sure everyone saw who was missing in the trailers. That's no secret. It's a grittier movie than the six that came before it. Darker. I'll stop before I give away even more.

Again. Sorry about that!

The Batbelt says different. Very Cool. Downloaded with my thanks.

I'm not surprised these stories are non-canon. Elsewhere for your generation, Imaginary Story when I began reading my big brother's comics. Filmmakers can't help but want to put THEIR imprint on the story. In some cases with disastrous results. Strange when you consider the brilliant scripts that Hollywood can and does produce. I agree that the premise was shaky. You know he's smarter than this so why does he push for this fight?

Also because I recognize another comic reading ally, I'll say this. With respect to the movie, There is an identical scene that is found in the Tim Sales Superman mini series "A Superman for all Seasons." A terrorist is holding Lois at gunpoint. Superman with all of his power can't be that fast, can he? How it's handled in the comics and in Superman vs Batman; Dawn of Justice speaks of just how non-canon this movie is.

Still, I loved this movie! I just wonder why they didn't cover Bruce Wayne's...aw spoiler alert violation. I've learned my lesson.

By the way, it's implied that my Spoiler warning is about the movie in question. So you take your chances if you read my response.

Is there any Super Hero movie that isn't a major plothole by the simple premise of it's own existence. Actually I think holes in the DC universe were rather revealed and dealt with. I'll stop to comply with my own spoiler policy.

artdude41, does this mean you didn't like the movie? I think some premises might be considered shaky when you consider how their canon counterparts in the comics act but plotholes big enough to drive the batmobile through? I don't know. That batmobile is pretty big.

My only gripe is Jesse Eisenberg's interpretation in Lex Luthor. Why is it that the only ones to get Luthor right are the WB cartoons? Eisenberg seems less like he's playing Luthor and more like he's playing Matt Gubler's "Spencer Reid" from "Criminal Minds". The resemblance is so uncanny that when I first saw Eisenberg in the movie I actually thought it WAS Gubler! I haven't felt that way since watching "Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man" and not being able to get over how much Mickey Rourke looked and sounded like Bruce Willis!

I'd rather stay in my lane than lay in my stain!

That is exactly my point. Almost all comics are already a leap of faith from the viewer. Some of it's understandable. When Superman debuted as a strange visitor from another planet, it would be only 17 years after the discovery of another galaxy. Stranger still, no planet outside of our solar system would be discovered for another 60 years after his debut. There are going to be some science plot holes. But for the story, One must understand loyalty and obsession. Then it should make more sense.

Of course some would say, if you have to explain it then one failed. I don't agree.

By the way, I would've accepted a more cerebral Lex but sweetheart loved the "new" Lex Luthor. Go figure!

I like fantasy best ,I only work in fantasy ,so i practically live in fantasy.

fantasy writers are bad about writing them self in to corners over long story lines . once upon a time are smart cause they write short stories.

n movies don't have time to write the hole sorta logical story.

and I will always think Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman ended The Raistlin Chronicles the way they did cause they had a dead line to meet.

but I'd much rather have all the pit falls of fantasy then just reality TV ,That I so very much hate beyond words. So I'll stay loyal to Fantasy till the end of time.

I Truly Believe in Magic.

I haven't seen the film, but my brother called me to ask questions after he saw it. I was able to piece together for him who some of the characters were and what various scenes might have meant, using my 1986-era DC geek knowledge. The impression I had was that the film was a bit of a mess, as DC tried to mine its history for compelling Darker-N-Edgier scenarios that might pop in a major film. As I understand it, Marvel began preparing for its film franchise well over a decade ago, with its Ultimates line of comics and the modified and mashed-up continuity presented therein. DC hasn't laid that same groundwork, so they're struggling to find a way to present the same sort of material. Without a fair amount of background knowledge about the DC continuity, a casual viewer such as my brother might come away confused by the end result.

That's my impression, anyway, about the film. I have nothing against the production, and I'll probably see it myself some day, once it's accessible on the small screen.

Beyond the film itself, DC seems to be having better luck than Marvel with live action TV treatments of their characters. Marvel has a serious head start in the realm of major film releases.

It makes sense that DC would look for a dark edge to it's movies. It's audience has grown and aged. When I was a boy, comics were for affordable for kids. Now, I don't know if today's kids could save their shekels to pay for a comic book. So your audience is going to be older and Superfriends are not going to cut it.

Cage, you should see the film. Everyone is going to have a different view of it. Sweetheart hasn't read any comics yet she liked it AND the Batman series. Awp, my chow is here. More to say later!

Granted most movies do have plot holes .. but they usually dont have plot holes combined with bad script and terrible editing . Which is why the movie got the scores that it did . Saying that though , i didnt hate the movie it was entertaining . and my wife who knows very little about the DC universe thought so too. But it did have problems .. way to many considering the amount of time and and talent involved in it . Personally i would have wanted them to hold off on doomsday aswell as justice league . and have this movie solely concentrate on developing superman and batmans characters . and there interaction with each other , and SLOWLY building to there friendship ..it would have been more believable .. there ideological differences should have been the focus of this movie ... I'm guessing the fact that the 30 min which was cut out to shorten its runtime would've helped make things more cohesive ....

and then theres jesse (i play myself in every movie ) Eisenberg lol.... enough said about that the better ...

It did sound to me like they were trying to squeeze way too much into one film, presumably because they're trying to catch up with Marvel's Avengers movies. Marvel started out slowly and didn't try to rush things. DC is trying jump in and be where Marvel is now, after, what? Maybe 57 films? :P So DC is cramming things into one film that should have been introduced gradually over three or five or seven stories. DC is running to catch up. Interestingly, that's not unlike the Marvel-DC dynamic in the late 60s, then again in the 80s (and maybe again, more recently, with the whole New 52 thing). Marvel has successfully dragged the the superhero genre in its chosen direction over and over again, and DC keeps trying to do the same thing. There's a longstanding meme that DC has the more iconic characters, but Marvel tells more compelling stories. That isn't always true, but in general DC's strongest stories seem to be out-of-continuity standalone graphic novel/limited series sorts of things, while Marvel remains strong with the ongoing, serialized storytelling. Or something.

Woo hoo! I actually received an e-bot! I will now proceed to use it to add nothing of value to the primary discussion of the thread. (My apologies! Please don't hit me! Eeek!)

In storytelling terms, the "Where do you go from there?" question is addressed remarkably well by Kurt Busiek's Astro City. The series is amazing. It shows how the superhero genre can be used to tell stories beyond PowerfulMan and HateyHatefulGuy beating up on each other and leveling cities in the process. Good stuff. I also think of John Byrne commenting, at his forum, that "Super heroes are about Hope!" A lot of super hero fiction is just about power. There are deeper themes in the genre which are frequently overlooked or ignored.

Astro City is one of the best comic book series ever. It's for those who do look at the bigger picture and the side issues of living in a city of filled with Heroes and villains. It might just restore your faith in good old comics books.

The rest of the opinions aren't bad. The new 52 is excellent. You do need to get the heroes up with time. Let's face it. Superman was an adult in 1938. That would make him at least 78 years old. Not good. I could go deeper with the differences between Kingdom Come and Superman 1000000 as to how the Superman mythos and canon were affected but we should stay on target.

I think you guys might be right in saying that DC packed a lot into that movie. They dealt with two different origins and that ending which took months in the comic to execute. They could've spaced it out over several movies but movies don't always work that way. Example : Star Wars. 20th century fox was out of cash and put everything into a movie that started in the middle of an epic story. It worked out quite well financially but the story was left with a few plot holes that made little sense. Example : The Jedi can afford to house a ton of jedi kids have this massive tower and headquarters...but wouldn't spring a couple of bucks to free Anakin's Mommy? Or they can make ships that go faster than light but they couldn't save a mother at child birth with NO physical problems?

or the other route...The Lord of the Rings was supposed to a two movie set until one of the financial backers said, "Wasn't the Lord of the Rings a trilogy?" That bit of conscious gave us three FOUR STAR movies in a row. They chose to tell the story (Almost) properly.

That half hour that was cut could've been used to explain more. I mean, who doesn't know the origin of batman?

Oh and far as canon is concerned, Marvel/Sony did the same thing. They change origins as needed. As long as they keep with the spirit of the comic, if not the letter, I'll let some changes go and not mention it to Sweetheart who remains wonderfully unknowing and uncaring about such things.

"Super Heroes are about hope."

They should be.

Except Galactus and the Silver Surfer. Really? They took one of the greatest heroes and stories of all comic time and just...No...I'll stop there because it is so rant worthy that I wouldn't be able to stop for another page. How could they? It was like the architects from the Fountainhead got hold of Howard Rourke Cortland buildings again.

rokket!! Dude! Howzit? I'm liking hivewire but it's really difficult to find anything over there about "The Project". You know what I mean?

Here's how I look at it LOTR and DC good guys are just to good. LOTR ,Super n Bat are classics but if they where released to day ,I don't know. No one has ever called Wolverine self righteous. Lex comes off as I'm smarter then you idiot. Magneto comes off as I'm fighting for my people. DC's black n white ,Marvels gray like reality.

goodguys or badguys if we can not relate to them ,then where not going to connect with them n that's the end of it.

Snyder said he found Jesse Eisenberg 'scary, smart' when interviewed for the cameo of Jimmy Olsen. At that point Bryan Cranston was Lex.

They re-wrote the part as Lex Junior for Eisenberg.

They don't explicit say in the movie that Lex Senior is dead, so there's a very feint hope that Cranston can still be in the next movie.

...but bear in mind that they removed the S in Batman 'vs' Superman because S stands for hope! lol

As far as the movie bombing...it's made 682 Million on a budget of 250 million and it's not done yet. I predict that it will fall just a bit short of a billion bucks which means sequels will come.

I wasn't a fan of this Lex at first but I appreciate evil genius written into a character and in retrospect, Eisenbergs Lex should be lasting. There is a plot hole here but I think it's more of the story that hasn't been told yet. He should be fun if he gets a return shot when they team him with the Joker. (No, I don't know they will do that and there are enough great villians they don't need to sequel Lex.

They removed the "S"? Here is the logo so I'm not sure what you mean, prixat. I know they took the S from supes cape back in 2013

The S was removed when it went from Batman vs Superman to Batman v Superman.

Do you think his remarks about knowlege and power are hinting at Lex/Brainiac?

Prixat, you are right! The S is gone! Still, I agree with Amy "Lois Lane" Adams. On Krypton it may have stood for hope but on the third planet from the sun, it's an "S".

How can I movie cost 250 million? I wasn't there to pour over costs but it's a high level production which means it's going to cost a bit more but this isn't new. Going back to arguably the first big budget sci-fi drama, Metropolis, made in 1927 at a cost betweem 5 and 7 reichmarks. In today's cash that was a budget of approximately 200 million dollars. I suppose even a hundred years ago, there was a man made truth. You get what you pay for.

Terrible grammar, ending with a preposition.

There was a lot of foreshadowing in this movie...I wouldn't doubt a Lex Brainiac connection. Can you imagine the massive Lex intellect combined with an evil Supercomputer? A Vandal Savage/Solaris connection would be better but certainly most movie goers aren't comic readers of the early 21st century and they are going to have their hands filled with too many heroes for people to enjoy as it is. Still, excellent points, prixat and RorrKonn

I can't help it for high budget movies. I never know what there spending all that money on ,hope there paying the people sweeping the floors $1000.00 a hour. cause you know even if we all made a superman movie with Poser .We couldn't get close to 250 M even if we tried. I don't think we'd even get close to 250K.Maybe 2500 ,maybe.

Grammar ,LOL ,I skipped that class indefinitely ;)

I haven't been posting much about it. I am trying hard to repay Chris Creek's kindness and make a few things for Dawn.

And I am learning how to use 3DS Max.
