Subject: Worst upgrade EVAR!

My UI is totally stuffed. The pallette windows cannot be resized. The preview window is only usable when floating. I can't get to my lower dials. Have deleted prefs, have uninstalled and re-installed still the same. What did I do to deserve this sort of treatment? My preview window is 200 pixels high and 1080 across when not floating. When I resize the 'Preview Dimensions' and dock it returns to the same size; 1080 * 200.

Most Poser users found the upgrade to be painless, useful and professionally completed for the user.

Perhaps folks can help, but coming in here screeching attacks doesn't get you much support.

Did you file a support ticket?

Did you upgrade to 11.2 on the 19th and are using a fully supported version of the software or a different version?

Did you select "Use existing settings" to avoid a complete change in your setting preferences?

Did you install to a new location or over the currently installed version of Poser?

What version of Poser did you attempt to upgrade FROM?

Are you using Windows or MAC?

Do you want some assistance or did you just come into the forum to shout and screech?

Let's put this into perspective, it was either Bondware taking over full operation of Poser or SM making a surprise announcement that Poser would no longer be supported nor sold by them. So individuals may have very negative options and would rather vent without seeking support, but imagine the alternative, not support and no active software. Let's get on the same page and help each other sort these problems out. We have a company willing to listen rather than a company concerned with it's monetary bottom line and making a decision that the software is no longer in their best interest.

Well, except for those posting to the contrary in the forum and myself. I upgraded the day it came out (being in Australia, juggling US vs Aust dates can be confusing) with fully supported version of the software. During the install I selected "Use existing settings" for my preferences. I installed to the previous directory, over the currently installed version The previous version was the PP11 that was operational the day before the 'UP'grade I am using a W10Pro i7 with 128g RAM and a 1060 - all of which worked well the day before the 'UP'grade I have also installed the NEW new Poser 11 'UP'grade

all of this to no avail.

I am glad that MOST POSER USERS found little difficulty, let's throw a party sometime, I just want my EXPENSIVE PROGRAM to work.

Please, if you want to interpret my opening post as hostile then just move on. I need help with my poser, not advice on my character.

So, help me out here......you installed the upgrade more than 10 days ago (by Australian or US calendar) and didn't test it? Had this problem 10 days ago and didn't report it anywhere?

If you want assistance, you need to calm down and ASK for it.

Start with a support ticket for assistance. Then come back here and let fellow users TRY to help you figure it out. But, we can't do much to assist you if you only want to attack, screech and complain.

Please keep in mind that the folks here are, by and large, users just like you. You need to follow the proper procedure for tech support and that is to file a support ticket here: https://support.posersoftware.com/portal/newticket

In the meantime, try something simple for me. Go to Edit>General Preferences and check Launch to Factory Scene.

Exit Poser, then re-launch it and post a screen shot of your opening screen.

Thank you hborre, I've imagined the alternatives; Maya, Blender, Cinema4D... there are others as well. The notification said this would go smoothly, it did not. Although I am not a tellitubbie nor a care bear, I wish to use my program; it is not a random opportunity to offend your forum group as much as some would like to think. After searching the rather lengthy forum for similar problems on a PC (there are a lot of Mac users here) I turned to the next step of troubleshooting before I give up. I have been supporting Poser from Poser 4, PAYING for each iteration as the owners came and went. As there are many that post here, I thought some-one might have a clue about what I should attempt next. Perhaps I was wrong

Glitterati; So again, your assumptions. I 'UP'graded and it did not work. I have been trying to fix it for days now. Thank you for your presumption that I did not test it, that really calmed me down. After I have failed in all attempts I took time to address the forum for advice - I found none that applied to my problem. THEN... I posted the SCREECHING ATTACK on you oh-so-patient people, denigrating you all and your program until you are broken and bruised crushed under my outrageously brutal statement and request for assistance. I noticed you are reluctant to point out where my "SCREECHING ATTACK" was in the opening post. You seemed so adamant I am keen to know where I did so I don't unwittingly do it again

To be fair, it probably was a rude surprise for many, to find they couldn't open Poser any more. Not everyone reads the forums, and though Rosity and Smith Micro sent out emails warning of the change, it probably looked like junk mail to a lot of people, if they even still use the email they registered the software with.

I'm guessing the grace period is over, and we're going to get a lot more people wondering why Poser no longer works.

SSfromM12 listen, calm down and pay attention to what you have been told. Do you tried out what Glitterati3d has recommended? If so, post the results. If the windows behave strangely, it could be an old driver for your Graphics card. You also can check in the preferences the UI Scale. Are you working on a Laptop, like me, you might change the UI from 1.00 to 1.25. This is a compromise between readability and window size. You see, there is much to check to resolve your problems. But, as we say in Germany, one can only help people who talk. The headline of yours was like a crash landing airplane, the rest was very angry and not very organized. That makes it difficult to help. Do you understand that?

But, coming in the forum, screeching, threatening with attorneys, and slamming Poser no matter how much help one tries to give is just not the way to get help.

To be fair, what other ways of warning people would have been appropriate? Sending several emails in a row/ newsletters/ posts on the site has all been done. The previous owner's actions cannot be dictated by the new owner, and if someone purchases a software, one may assume they are not averse to other digital platforms.

I remember when e-on had the data breach and without any warning Cornucopia3D went poof. THAT was holding all my content hostage situation if I ever saw one. All following versions going subscription did not delight many, many people there. That content just became available again for download, after years.

Agreed, but this particular OP was not that rude. That other guy with the lawyer, yes. He needs to get a grip. But this guy wasn't too bad. His thread title is a bit over the top, but his post isn't terrible.

Thunderstone, Wasn't it you that commented on a post about "SUBJECT: I give up on Poser. Officially." Did you not notice that KaribouBoutique was making negative comments? They were from a few days ago. Rather than being smug and condescending to others, why not just skip commenting altogether on this request for assistance. It's because of the overly sensitive and delicate like you I am reluctant to post in the first place. I posted in the forum for the very purpose of asking the local intelligensia before disturbing officialdom. Is that ok by you? (SMH indeed... I only know you people from your postings..)

The problem is that his post gives us nothing to help him WITH. All of those questions I asked should have been part of the first post if he wanted help.

Or maybe some of us are just tired of people who simply look to complain and make it pretty clear that unless solutions are trotted out like prizes on The Price Is Right, then everything is just a complete and total waste of time... do I have it right thus far?

i think what happened, how all this seemed to go downhill so quickly, is the phrasing of this thread's title, in addition to your question about what you may or mayn't have done to deserve such treatment. i agree with you that some folks in here might be a bit sensitive; however, lots of us are not. and certainly calling folks 'sensitive' is a way to 'push buttons' so to speak.

the thing is is all we have are words on a page to read, no vocal inflections, no facial features to help us 'read' the context of these words.

i do think when a person asks a question such as 'what have i done to deserve [insert anything]', it comes across, or reads, as that person feeling things at a personal level, thus people might react to words thereafter as personal as well. am i making sense? [i hope i am... sigh]

maybe everyone could just start over from here and move forward in a civilized fashion...

i read you're having issues with the sizing of your UI. you've stated that you've tried several ways of testing it in order to fix it. can you say more about what you've tried? it might help folks who are more knowledgeably than i find a better starting point with assisting you and making corrective suggestions.

hope it can be resolved! :))

This sounds right, but we're assuming a definition of "prefs" here. Be more specific - which file did you delete? There are many.

If you do not have the file finding tool called "everything" I suggest you get it.

Now - using that tool, here are all the Poser UI preference files on MY computer. The only one Poser is using is the one that was saved TODAY.

As there are many other preference files that don't affect the UI layout, and this one is the one and only file that will "RESET" my layout, you need to be talking more clearly about what you deleted.

Having seen this sort of problem many times over the years (approaching two decades actually) I think it is high time that Poser documents include a FAQ so people who don't read the forum can find what they need.

ok I think all should go back to the roots , I just read this thread and to be honest I could not read any attacks concerning the request for help the only thing was the words " What did I do to deserve this sort of treatment? " but by any means it was no attack of the concerned .... it is understandable that people who try to help seem to be under pressure but I think also these should not blow off like this just because the Pot is full. there should not be any witch hunt or seeking for a black sheep.

My personal meaning is also that if someone that updates get such a result might be shocked and frustrated... just imagine you spend a decade collecting Poser stuff spending 1000 of $ supporting artists and then puff all just gone that is sure a good reason that one would say " What did I do to deserve this sort of treatment? " and for sure it is not offending....

all this is ending u in a wrong direction and the user that needs help will never get it and I think he did not deserve such a reaction.

also you People should stay on the floor as many others that might have issues read these threads and get scarred off, they give up and just start using another program this naturally could result that at the end Artists suffer as they sell less of there Poser creations.

I also think that for Renderosity it is Important to keep as many Poser users as Possible and get even more, it would not be funny to remove almost 80% of a store just because Poser aint working right anymore things like RDNA happen verry fast .... unless it is the Plan but I doubt it !

I suspect this item should be talked about. If you do this and then restart Poser, everything is reset. If it doesn't then you have something truly magical happening.

SSfromM12 @4364917 Have you tried grabbing the UI with your cursor and moving it into the required positions? Video

If that does not work, please open your poser preferences folder - you will see a file ( or more than 1 ) with screen dimensions ( e.g. Poser UI Prefs_1920x1080 ) - please try deleting these files and restarting poser.

Thank you Giana, Your response has helped to calm me down. I tried to keep calm, I really did but nothing seemed to stop the accusations and grief. I have only posted on gamer forums before this as they have a sense of humour and proportion that I realize now could be uncommon. I am often reluctant to comment on threads for fear I may not put things well. I am not very good at writing and even though I have learnt to spell and increased my vocabulary, I am not good at expressing myself in genteel company. I had no idea the 'what have I done' remark would taint the meaning of my post. I've been sorting through so much information that was unhelpful it all begins to blur until I am bewildered and a little desperate. First when the upgrade was installed I thought I had done something wrong and spend that evening and the next day trying to use docking the palettes by resizing, then I investigated the Properties to engage the factory settings and UI scale. (I use a 1920*800 desktop monitor, not a lappy). I have noticed in the Appdata>Roaming>PoserPro> Prefs there is no default for my screen size but a Poser UI setting .xml that has that resolution. I tried deleting the Preferred state in Runtime>Prefs and Appdata>>>Prefs and then restarting. This didn't go so well. I reinstalled the program and the screen snap-to problem was still persistently resizing any applet I wanted to dock. I av'ed my machine and removed other visual art programs I have to see if there was a conflict of sorts. I google searched for users with similar problems but could not find any for W10Pro (Mac yes, PC no) I did not want to lodge a support ticket in case the answer was easily available from the forums and they must have such a load right now I thought it unkind to bother them so early in the transference of owners. After reading so much irrelevent material in the forums I felt if I were to want a response I should make a funny OP title. I wish I really hadn't now. I don't know if it's cultural or not, but the difference of the forums I've attended is like chalk and cheese to this one. Not that I'm complaining, there seems to be quite a sizable clientele in this forum. My real problem is the background the docking windows are smaller than the palettes when docked. I can scroll (except for tiny ones) but the scroll device is small and fiddly to use. I'm so sorry I created such a fuss. There are others that seem to have had to endure countless thickheads like me but I hold them no malice. If they hold my novice nature against me it isn't my fault and there is little I can do to ease the unhappiness they experience. If they needed help with installing hardware or advice on illustration arts I would sacrifice my time if needed. That's what it is to be mature - patient, helpful and if possible instructive. I am no silver tongued wordsmith. I never expected I had to be one.

Thank you BagginsBill. The picture I posted above was taken after doing the factory reset and the palette problem is visible in it. Thank you for taking time and interest to help me. And yes Structure, I have tried pushing it around. it does resize if I float the palettes but they dock strangely. In the older version the docking didn't go behind a window of the backgrond like it does now. Thanks for the suggestion though.

This is a peculiar size, not found among the factory default files. I wonder if this is a problem due to some erroneous simplification by the new developers? Like, if reset to factory defaults can't find the right size as a predefined file then some buggy never-before-used code got triggered.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

and welcome to the forums - truly.

just for the record, i think you are doing a fabulous job in your post to me with spelling and vocabulary. and you are probably correct in terms of 'culture' if you were referring to this forum vs. a gamers forum. i've never been on one of those, but i imagine that they can be quite chatty and pokey good fun, loud and rowdy, and there's nothing wrong with that. there IS humour here, too, but i suspect that the crowd here is more serious-minded, technical and trying to learn, or be more studious, so quite a different culture to be sure.

and i understand about feeling hesitant to post to ask for help. like you, i usually try to do heaps of research on my own before i think about asking anyone for help. i'm kinda shy tho', but still, i get 'it'. there have been times where i simply gave up because i could find no answer on my own, and i can honestly say that is NOT the way to go because it prevents one from learning and growing. so good on you for coming to the right conclusion TO ask for help, regardless of how it was phrased.

as i said, i don't know how to help you with your Poser issue [maybe i could have had i been more interactive here over these many years]. but i do have hope that even if the first few things suggested to you do not work, that some answer could be forthcoming.

oh, and i'm not spanking you or anything when i say this, but that's the other thing: because of the title to this thread, some folks who might have an answer might not bother because it might be perceived as negative, and they might avoid it altogether - just a thought that occurred to me. they might pop in though, so i'll keep my fingers and toes crossed for you.

Ok, I feel like I should try to explain some things here to help people comprehend each other. Please, don't see these as attacks - my words here will be meant as clarification.

-When you start a thread calling "Worst upgrade EVAR", you are attacking, even if you don't intend to. When you say "what have I done to deserve this": nothing. You have done nothing. Your software failing is not a personal attack to you - software problems happen.

-A lot of threads have been created lately complaining loudly and rudely about the update, and a lot of times it was the user's own mistake that caused a problem (I'm not saying this was your case). A lot of us who use the forums here frequently are tired by now - please excuse us if we seem sensitive. I promise you, it's not just because of you, it's just for being worn out.

-We're trying to help as users here, because Bondware is probably drowning in work - we know some tickets have been waiting for solution for days, but this is their first Poser iteration. A lot of bumps on the way were to be expected (at least I, personally, expected them).

-Most of us have also purchased Poser back since version 4, too. None of us deserve special treatment for it. We purchased versions of a program so we could use its features, and so we did. My dad has been buying the game FIFA since version 98 every year and he's just purchased version 2020. For three of those versions a while there, he was unable to play online and contacted support - Electronic Arts, an ENORMOUS company, failed to solve his problem for three years of back-and-forth emails (that tended to take 6 months each to be replied by them). I the end, I solved his problem by googling for it and testing some things. THAT is what I call bad support. Bondware has been doing all they can, and largely they've been doing a good job at it.

-Please don't toss a "what's wrong with you attacking someone with a disability?". We had no way to know you have any disabilities. That accusation borders on manipulative, and leaves a bad taste in my mouth. If it helps, I live with ADHD and what's left of growing up with panic disorder, and deal closely with many autistic people - if you'd care to explain your disability, I might try to find a way to communicate with you more easily.

-You've ignored a few attempts of help there, so people are prone to giving up on helping you. And most people who posted here are users, who have no obligation with you and were trying to help you just because they might have been able to.

-Everyone, let's please take a breather and start this over? 😄

Not sure if this might help you as I noticed that the original Files from Poser 11 Prefs should have different file sizes these are the original ones so you might try to replace them with the ones you have to see if it helps you might be lucky.

Download the Originals

would suggest that you backup your Prefs before placing in these in case that it does not work. and use at own risc LOL

Thank you for your advice BagginsBill, I have that resolution (1920*1080) as well. I noticed that there was a User UI pref file that size but not a default UI prefs, to me it is a clue but I am not fluent in python nor brave enough to copy/rename_iteration as default UI/#rename_original_file/test. Comrade 'Gate' has suggested a link for me. If I derive an answer to the issue from this, should I post back to you (should anyone else have the same issue)? It seems a rare occurance. If I could ask one more thing; if I am unsuccessful, while I tried to log a support ticket the issue is technical but is it Configuration, Update, General issue or Other issue? I don't want to get the professionals as confused as I am.

Thank you Gate, Unfortunately the zipfile doesn't have the resolution for my screen and I am grateful for your efforts. I'll be lodging a ticket as soon as I clear up a form issue. The upgrade issue seems a sensitive topic with many of those that wish to help novices, I hope this is only temporary and that as time passes, the user community will become settled. When a game has changes to a multiplayer map, the cursing and remonstrations persist for weeks, sometimes months. I have never had this much trouble to shoot on any of the other updates/upgrades to Poser I have bought in the past. Most support services want the novice to consult with gregarious members of the community forums before lodging a support ticket. Seeing as how I have had difficulty expressing myself in the forum, I dread trying to describe the problem on the ticket request. Regardless, Thank you for taking time with a crooked pin.
